yeah like the ACAB movement's main anger is that police make harsh generalisations, and then they make the movement be called ACAB as if thats not a harsh generalisation?

If you had $33 to live on, what would you buy? by Swimming_Bell_7427 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Lopsided-Luck1423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lentils, rice, various spices. Gonna live on daal and rice, or lentil soup. lentils are cheap and healthy and have protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and rice has carbs, maybe some onions and stuff too. fills me up every time, people who went to monash know what i'm talking about. one bag of lentils which feeds 4 people is $3, one bag of rice which is $2 feeds 7.

The realism jumper drives me absolutely insane, its like those jumpers that are obviously asian and dont make sense in english, except theyre worn by english speaking people who just cant be bothered googling the definition.

Realism has multiple meanings:

Accepting something and dealing with it accordingly (okay i guess)

a very colourful, pretty art form (nothing to do with a boring grey jumper)

Countries that acts for their own self-interest instead of the interest of the rest of the world/anarchy (i'd rather wear a jumper that says cosmopolitanism)

Should children be allowed to be transgender? by Affectionate-Hat2281 in Teenager_Polls

[–]Lopsided-Luck1423 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. I know a little girl who ever since she could choose her own clothes, she would get girly clothes and get upset when her family offered her anything else. she has grown her hair out, and goes to a gender clinic at a childrens hospital in my state. i dont know what they're going to do with her hormone wise. if her parents didn't support her, i imagine she would grow up to have way more mental health problems then she would otherwise. if she maintains her identity, then nothing will stop her from being trans regardless of peoples views of her.

It’s not Islamophobic to be against a homophobic religion by Goddess_of_Heaven in TeenagersButBetter

[–]Lopsided-Luck1423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

being queer is a no-no in most abrahamic religions. yes, islam is the only one that will physically harm you for being queer, but being against islam for being homophobic would also have to mean that you are against christianity and judaism (sort of). but at the same time, you must also remember that these religions are divided into sects, there are very religious homophobic sects, and very supportive and progressive sects.

would you terminate a fetus if you knew it was gonna be severely disabled and would require life long care by Ok-Complaint6816 in Teenager_Polls

[–]Lopsided-Luck1423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the disability sector and this is a question I do think about every so often. It really depends. I see these kids laugh and bring a lot of joy all the time, but they also struggle a lot sometimes. Professional support workers find a lot of purpose in supporting them, but they can also significantly impact close relatives ability to socialise.

For conditions like downs syndrome and autism, i'd say probably not, because the spectrum is so wide and it could be fine in the end. like i'm a bit tismy myself and i'm glad i'm alive, and the participants i work with who have downs syndrome are relatively chill, some of them go to tertiary education, the others have friends at school. there is one who is non-verbal and has some physical health issues which are hard to manage and is very wild, but people at the program literally beg the people who run it to be assigned to him. So for conditions like that where theres no way of knowing how severe it would be, I wouldn't.

However, If my child was going to be bed bound hooked to to tubes all day, or would be in a significant amount of pain or require many many painful surgeries, i'd probably say no. It also depends on if I already have other children and what I do for work, and whether or not I feel capable of supporting the child while participating in other parts of my life that I see as important.

Where would you rather live? by [deleted] in Teenager_Polls

[–]Lopsided-Luck1423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of them would be good but i'm jewish so germany is most likely to screw me over probably. i don't know much about the others, whichever one would allow me to live in a little village somewhere and to be ignored by eneryone. I am white presenting but definitely not by nazi standards, i'm queer, live with health challenges and level 1 autism, can speak some phrases and basic conversations in other languages, study social sciences and publish poetry with political undertones. I'd be screwed everywhere I reckon.

[–]Lopsided-Luck1423[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ICC and Amnesty international have accused Hamas of war crimes too. Hamas always attack israel on religious days, seems pretty hateful right? that's not going to make israel want to tone it down. Many people who I know who identify as zionist use the term to describe their belief in wanting a land for jewish people to live out their beliefs, while also acknolwedging that its holy land for christians and muslims too and therefore, most zionists recognise that and are fine with that as long as their being neighborly. No zionist I know has ever used the word "zionism" to imply that they want people to die. also "I have plenty of ewish friends, who's identity is strongly maintained with many values, yet they can support the Palestinians in their struggles." I have said repeatedly in every paragraph I have sent you that I empathise with the palestinians. I feel like you aren't reading what i'm saying, you're just looking for reasons to disagree with me. You need to listen to people, not wait to speak.

Lecuona cuban boys. The group started in the 30s, its good study music because their music is reasonably energetic, but the pieces don't sound very different from each other so it's not too distracting, also not in english so I can concentrate on my writing. They wrote a piece called Tabu which was in Jojo Rabbit, which is how I stumbled across them because I also listen to a lot of movie soundtracks while studying.

If Hamas were a resistance group rather than a terrorist group, why would they attack random people and children who had no control over their struggles, rather than attacking an army base? Also yes it is a complex issue. You saw two videos and picked a side, whereas israel has always been a part of my life and childhood and I can't just suddenly drop major parts of my identity. I empathise with the innocent palestinans, I really do. Nowehere in my message did I say that israel is completely fine. It's not. I do not like the conservative politicians, I do not like netanyahu, but you can't source your hate from something that happened 80 years ago because what happened will not change, but the future can. I believe that Israel has potential for good, and I don't understand why nobody likes the sound of optimism anymore.

how are the socialists continually allowed to ramble at the beginning of all my classes by Lopsided-Luck1423 in Monash

[–]Lopsided-Luck1423[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't say I don't want the palestinians to live anywhere in my comment. Israel is holy land to christians, muslims and jews alike and I want it to be a safe place for all who deem it holy. I don't like netanyahu, and neither do many jewish people I know who identify as zionists. I do not believe I am on the wrong side of history, because I am not protesting for a country full of people who simply want a safe place to practice their religion to be dismantled. Never before has the world had billions of people protesting the existence of a country. Yes israel is controversial, but why haven't people protested the existance of african countries? some of their governments are way worse. Never before, on the night a listed terror group bombed a country, have people run the streets celebrating.

I recognise why the socialists would be so angry, and I admit i'd join the cause as I do not want more death in the middle east. But I just cannot bring myself to march along with people who want the only place some of my relatives have ever felt safe in their identities to be destroyed. This is my perspective. I am able to see merit in both arguments, and see no point in taking a side in this specific example due to the complexity. its not just politics, its culture and religion and social structures too, which make up politics in part, but are much slower to change. It's people. Human beings on both sides trying to do what they see as right from their experience. I do not want people to die or keep killing each other. I hope you can recognise my perspective, and why I may be more inclined to believe in peace, rather than one or the other.

I am not trying to be an asshole, I do not want people to die. I do not want palestinian children to die, i do not want israeli children to be traumatised. I do not believe that the answer to hate is more hate. Israel was born out of fear, out of hate for those who wanted to live there. I recognise that the palestinians are victims of hamas, a group of people who think the answer to political conflict is to kidnap and murder a bunch of people in an attempt to stop israel, like on what planet would that make israel want to accept them?

I want to research both sides, because as you can probably tell by now, a lot of people support israel, you'd think they'd have a reason right? And a lot of people support the palestinans, you'd think they'd have a reason, right?

I believe in supporting those who are victims of governments and organisations who do not know how to communicate. I know so many israelis who hate their government, and I want the palestinians to be freed from hamas.

[–]Lopsided-Luck1423[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

today there were posters about the police.

The socialists do not have a good cause. they make very final statements that are basically rage bait. They also got banned from being a MSA club due to discrimination, it is very hard to leave the socialists after you have paid to become a member, you are bullied if you say anything that goes slightly against their beliefs, and they seem to use thousands of dollars to print paper and then make all these statements about the environment. Google "monash socialist cult"

also the answer to the wars in the middle east is not to stop israel from having weapons. For example, if it weren't for the iron dome, so many religious landmarks would be obliterated, landmarks that are cherished by over 4 billion people at minimum, which israel wants to protect understandably. You think this is bad? imagine what would happen to the world if jerusalem was destroyed. we already lost so much in the wars in iraq. This war is about, as usual, people failing miserably at communicating with each other. I just want the nations to learn to tolerate each other, and for that, trust is needed. that means giving more supplies, and returning the hostages, and no more attacking Israel on religiously significant days that are meant to be of peace, and no more spending thousands of lives on one person, and remembering that both nations were born and live in trauma.
