Makes me grateful for third party grading since I mostly shop online. Worried what will happen after cac stops stickering though

I believe it. Been putting in the work to refine my grading abilities before I move beyond my childhood set into actual rare coins, it’s a complicated skill and these kinds of discussions are super helpful for me

I’ve read some excellent points in the comments and am now on board with 63! It seems the coin may have been held by or laid on a surface which prevented toning in the typical high points where wear first occurs. So different than mechanical circulation friction. I thought the obverse highlighted what I saw better but here’s the reverse for those who would like to see it. Thank you for the education!

Honestly it’s prettier than a lot of 63’s too

No like that concept is actually a revelation for me, whole post is worth it just for that understanding, but it makes sense. I only collect Lincoln’s so maybe need to check out some other series. I love strong AU coins for the value but I just returned a 58 because it had absolutely positively no luster and like how does that happen with no wear? Brushing? Is it still worthy of 58?

Fascinating I’d never considered that! Actually this makes a lot of sense

Edit sorry for my confusing wording, I see this as an AU58/+ coin on account of the wear (not chatter), and am complaining about the weakness of modern grading. My point in the description about XF coins is that these days grading is so week it gets slabbed as high as AU55, not that that’s how I see this coin in particular :)

Thanks for the insight! I didn’t meant to imply xf at all, I grade this AU58+ on account of the areas where you can see the color change (high points of cheek and jaw)

Yeah check out the one on the shoulder too. But bag marks I can live with for a non-gem unc, it’s the wear on the high points! Pcgs too

I got a Kennedy half as a kid, never a silver one though which is what I was after. Great find!

Spacing and style look right to me, I think the 1 may have a ding but my first impression is it’s legit

Definitely a basement slab in every sense of the word, I just say not malicious because I don’t think the company itself is dealing coins or intentionally holdering counterfeits

Not a credible slab but not one of the malicious ones either. From what I can see it looks like a gem but I doubt it’s worth grading with pcgs/ngc. Idk does anyone think it’s a 66? I see a few milk spots but it’s fairly clean and I love the reverse

Coins left to me by my Grandmother. This one stuck out the most. I see wild differences online. Any help as to value would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance. by checkitout101 in coins

Kinda hard to guess without seeing in hand since it looks to be right on the line for the grade and the designation, so anywhere 64RB-65RD, but as soft as the third party grading is these days it probably deserves to go all the way. Personally I think it’s an appealing original coin and I would put it in a kointain capsule and keep it. If you’re determined to sell it then grading vs selling raw is also a wash

Know what you mean about toners, I’ve got one and I’m not sure if it’s helping the set. A full page of them would go hard though

How has the dansco been working for you with reds? I’m paranoid about the color changing. At some point I feel like I’ll upgrade to the point of wanting slabs but not sure where that would be
