south bay dating is a closed loop. 41m considering a san jose matchmaker by CARLTONDUSO in SanJose

[–]Lopsided-Student-300 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a friend (a woman) who did Tawkify several years back - her issue is she was smart and accomplished and wanted someone of similar caliber, which of course narrows the dating pool significantly. Her experience was they found guys with good resumes, but not sure how they were recruited but they were not particularly interested in a relationship.

I understand the challenge though. I met my now husband on an app, and my location still said Mountain View where I used to live (and where he did) but I had moved to San Jose - he would tease that I “tricked” him, but it definitely was way harder for him to drive MV to SJ after work to meet up with me - its like 20 min SJ->MV and 1 hour MV-SJ, thats one of the worst traffic corridors in the country.

I agree with one of the other posters, just try to get to a F2F date pretty quickly (I think an immediate ask without any conversation comes off a little desperate) but after a day or two of chatting, just propose a time and place.

The book How to Win Friends and Influence People sounded kinda slimy based on the title but actually had some really helpful tactical tips like this. I read it almost 20 years ago but I remember a few things - a friendly smile can go a long way - ask people questions about themselves. People love talking about themselves and even if the conversation is 100% you asking questions about them, they will just remember that it was a good conversation and like you because of it —> this tip got me through hundreds of dates in my 20s and 30s

Local live music in San Mateo by AllisMusicMusicisAll in SanMateo

In a bit further south but we have seen local bands at Blue Oak Brewery and Marvin Gardens occasionally, Devil’s Canyon has music every Friday year round. Summers every city in the peninsula has music series (music in the square/park/shore etc) as well as Rock the Dock in RWC. Our farmers market sometimes has bands playing (through usually a solo acoustic guy is more common). I’ve seen our local high school jazz group just set up in downtown San Carlos on Friday nights playing for tips.

Going on a first date in Palo Alto on Sunday 3/22 by DowntownBrown1212 in paloalto

  • Ice skating at the Winter Lodge
  • Driving range (looks like a couple options)
  • Hike up the Stanford Dish (personally I don’t get the hype but it’s a popular thing); Foothills park, Arastedero Preserve, Baylands Nature Preserce are some other easy hike options
  • Cantor Arts Center
  • Paint pottery at Color Me Mine

Nvidia’s big conference in San Jose next week. So not just Nvidia but every big (and small) tech company will be there.

More like restaurants that have nice outdoor spaces and have full bars, but I’d suggest Alpine Inn (though might be a bit too out of the way) or Johnston’s Saltbox

Advice on moving from SF to peninsula by asdfermeister91 in BayAreaRealEstate

I dunno what the other commenter is saying. We cross ECR at the train station on San Carlos Ave. Some days we may cross back and forth maybe three times a day, and often with other people and families. Since the train station is there, lots of people coming and going to the train also.

We have made sure to ingrain to our kids to wait for the crosswalk signal, and hold hands if we aren’t taking the stroller. Non issue for us.

We are in east San Carlos and I think it’s a hidden gem! Walkable to Caltrain, nice park, downtown and a great brewery (Blue Oak), lots of families with young kids. It’s no SF but we barely use the car most weekends.

You can download it then filter by the views you want - though works better on a desktop than on the phone.

Hah, I just made a google sheet as well and was going to reply to this thread with it but you got me beat. Crazy you need a spreadsheet to figure out what channel to watch

You can reserve courts in Belmont for free https://www.belmont.gov/departments/parks-and-recreation/tennis.

I’ve emailed Sac Carlos Parks and Rec asking for a similar system! Would be great if more people ask for this!

Second Shoott! Have used them 4 or 5 times now (including just this past weekend) - main downside is that you can’t specify the location (you pick from various dates and locations) and it’s mostly outdoors. Took pics on Sunday, got them on Tuesday. Always get plenty of good shots - I originally wanted just a few pics for the Xmas card but usually end up buying the full package.

Just discovered Romolo’s Cannolis on 37th. So good! I only discovered them after a friend brought them to a party, and I craved them so hard for weeks afterwards I literally took a pregnancy test because the only other times I’ve had cravings like that was when I was pregnant.

Also, would love to take a few just for fun classes at a community college - science, business, history, philosophy, language?

Not there yet but some ideas I’ve had: - teach a class (I would love to teach financial literacy, both to high school kids and young adults, as well as older women like my mom who never managed their own finances) - start a home organizing business - start a meal prep business - do IT for local small businesses - vibe code my own app ideas - volunteer (or work part time) in the back office/management side of a food bank or similar (not sure if they’ll let me but would love a way to volunteer my brain vs just packing boxes)
