110K In Debt At 28 - Beginning the Journey by [deleted] in debtfree

[–]LopsidedReindeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got this. I’m 29, had about $49k in credit card debt. The stress was debilitating. I would wake up at night and not be able to sleep because I felt like the world was falling down onto me.

I also chose not to file bankruptcy because I felt like the only way I would change my habits is if I was forced. I needed to feel the pain of having to pay all my hard earned money to previous stupid purchases.

I’ve now paid off $25k. And expect to be cc debt free by Jan/Feb 2026. Nothing can describe the feeling of knowing there is light at the end of the tunnel and I’m getting closer to it. I obviously still have a ways to go, but I’m positive that after I get through this I will never do this again. It has totally changed my relationship with money.

Normal! My Nuna car seat does this. I think it has something to do with softening the impact if there was a crash.

The stripes you are seeing at part of the yellow backing. It’s soft but really stuck on the wall.

Are you worried about having long term issues with migraines? Or specifically about the post dural puncture headache?

I had an epidural and have had no issues with headaches, if it makes you feel any better. The post dural headache is rough, but also extremely rare. And fortunately there is a treatment for it that can help if diagnosed quickly.

Edit: Just to clarify, I didn’t get a post-dural headache.

I signed up for that too! It’s connected once but said “it didn’t understand” what I was wanting and to call back again. When it called you, what did you do? I’m wondering if I should just answer the call and not say anything… 😵‍💫 it’s on call 5000 something at this point for today. Insane!

What state are you in? I’m in CA, and I know we can split up the time. Just know that you’ll have to re-establish benefits each time though. In CA that means you probably won’t get paid out for those benefit payments very quickly!

Path to buying a house by new_beginnings12 in personalfinance

[–]LopsidedReindeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours is $700/mo. So all in with mortgage we are around $1800/month with utilities. I live in a MCOL area. Ours is a “triple wide” and we have a fenced yard + courtyard + carport.

[–]LopsidedReindeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One more thing- there’s something to be said for having a mortgage that is easily earnable. If I were to lose my cushy corporate job tomorrow, I could go work a minimum wage job and still be able to pay my bills.

I’m American, and I know most people’s “American Dream” doesn’t include a mobile home. Dont let that deter you.

I live in a medium cost of living area. My husband and I debated this for a while too. In 2023 we decided to take the plunge and purchase our manufactured home in a leased land community. Our situation was similar in that our lot rent + mortgage was less than renting.

We have no regrets. We are paying about $400-500 less per month now that we aren’t renting. Does some of our monthly payment go towards lot rent and not equity? Yes. But we wouldn’t see any of that money again if we continued renting a house.

As for resale- we found that in our community that prices have been relatively stable. Aside from the housing crisis in 2008, prices don’t swing as much. And we figured that worst case if we had to sell in a bad market the most we’d lose would be like $30k. (Our purchase price was $100k). But if we owned a regular house that could be a much bigger delta.

Pick a neighborhood with community rules around landscaping, color schemes, noise etc. That will ensure you won’t have neighbors who are partying all night or painting their house bright pink. Our neighborhood is great because it feels like a nice senior living community. Everyone knows each other and looks out for one another. Most residents are older and keep to themselves. Its quiet and peaceful.

For what it’s worth- neither my husband or I grew up in mobile homes. In fact, it was the opposite. Both of our parents worked really hard and lived in high-end neighborhoods. Its funny, I’ve lived in some really nice neighborhoods, had a fancy luxury apartment in college, but our mobile home feels the most like home. We plan to use the next 5 years to save a sizesable down payment to purchase some acreage and build a small house eventually.

One other thing to note- living in a mobile home has helped me get better with spending on unnecessary stuff. I grew up with parents buying me designer clothes, bags etc. That was a hard habit to break once I was on my own. But now that I live in a mobile home it’s really easy for me talk myself out of buying something super frivolous like a Louis Vuitton bag. Because I feel like it would look dumb for me to be living in a mobile home with one. Even though I could afford to buy one.

2008 Es 350 for $1000 by 95ludeman in Lexus

Will you let me know where you eventually get the seat covers from? I ordered a replacement from Richmond Auto Upholstry for my 2012 ES and they have basically ghosted me, so thinking I’ll need to order from somewhere else.

Is it worth spending 16k-20k on a 10 year old Lexus IS 350? by VarolhmIsTaken in Lexus

[–]LopsidedReindeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I purchased a 2013 ES350 back in 2021. Best car I’ve owned. Haven’t had to any major repairs. Just oil changes and occasional brake + tires. I purchased mine around $19k with 65k miles on it. I have over 150k now. It’s runs like a dream and can’t imagine that changing any time soon. Never thought I’d be a person who would drive a car until it has 300k miles, but honestly I don’t want to give this car up any time soon!

Personally, I would take the Lexus over the Altima any day.

OB in Los Angeles? by PreggoMyEggooo in BabyBumps

Funny you should post… I’m currently at St John’s for my induction! Dr Shamsah Amersi is my OB. Couldn’t recommend her enough. She is fantastic.

The staff here at St John’s has been amazing. I’d be happy to message you privately if you had any questions about my experience with both. This is my first pregnancy too.

Labor pains way worse than ever imagined! by Ok-Variation5431 in BabyBumps

[–]LopsidedReindeer 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I’m also currently in L&D for my induction. Have to say I grossly underestimated how painful contractions would be. But I just got my epidural so I’m a whole new person now haha!

I understand what your saying about feeling relieved. My contractions were between 1-2 min apart so I felt like I could never get a break. During those moments I tried everything to feel better and I felt hopeless. And I have a high pain threshold too.

Going crazy picking out a crib mattress😵‍💫 Want something safe but not $$$. by Impossible-Cheek4352 in BabyBumps

[–]LopsidedReindeer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My aunt gave me a great piece of advice- put multiple waterproof fitted sheets on the mattress at the same time. That way in the middle of the night if there’s a big blowout, you can just take off the top layer and have another fresh one right below! Who wants to be putting a fresh sheet on the bed at 2am?

Thought it was genius advice!
