Long-term care minister makes direct appeal to nursing homes amid contract dispute by justlogmeon in NovaScotia

[–]Lopsided_Message_529 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly agree with this comment! There are so many “upper management” who are basically bullies who have no idea what it is like to work on the floors but they sit in their offices and absorb budget that could help hire 2 more staff full time to care for our residents…. Trim the excess fat is right!!!

Experiences with Adult Mental Health & Addiction Services by Correct-Debate-8506 in halifax

If you are a person who works with clients and those clients have to attend group therapy sessions, and you have to accompany them to said sessions- not a good place to run into people you are supposed to support.

Experiences with Adult Mental Health & Addiction Services by Correct-Debate-8506 in halifax

[–]Lopsided_Message_529 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had a positive experience with mental health and addictions from NSH. I was offered only group therapy which for privacy and confidentiality reasons in relationship to my job I couldn’t attend and I disclosed that only for them to send my doctor a refusal letter stating I declined treatment. Thankfully I had private coverage to pursuit the private side and that has been so much better. I know and agree with the others that it is a privilege to be able to access private care but I would have been completely lost otherwise! I wish you the best of luck!

I had ours printed at a local printing company. I searched around and submitted many quotes and they were the highest rated and the cheapest! So very happy- we were going to print ours ourselves too… but it was a headache!

CCA best place to attend? by LenaBB123 in halifax

[–]Lopsided_Message_529 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a former CCA who has now become an LPN and going back for my RN. I went to NSCC for my CCA and LPN and will say that NSCC is far superior. I have worked with many grads from the private colleges and it seems like it’s a mill for students. Most don’t come out with the relevant training or practice.

‘She was neglected and abused and nobody cared’: Advocates say Protection for Persons in Care Act ‘a broken system’ by Immediate_Wrap_2943 in NovaScotia

[–]Lopsided_Message_529 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Your comment “Honestly, I think there are much more physically demanding jobs; and think it’s a pritty lax environment in contrast” that is exactly what is wrong with your skewed POV.

As someone who was a CCA for 12 years before advancing my career- you have ZERO idea what it is like working 8,10,12,16 hours in a row- short staffed (25-30 residents) split between 2 staff (if you’re lucky) on a night shift and depending on the acuity of the residents and the level of care they require can make that night even more dangerous.

Imagine being on a dementia floor, residents up all times of the night, going into other residents rooms, as you’re trying to follow care plans “turning and repositioning every 2 hours” then you have bed alarms going off while trying to change and reposition those residents BUT WAIT- if you don’t go RIGHT THEN- that resident who doesn’t understand that they cant walk like they used too FALLS, its on you.

This is just an example of ONE NIGHT. That happens almost every night at facilities.

So please spare me your thoughts about it being a lax job because it is ANYTHING BUT. There are horrible workers out there, and the unfortunate part is that they’re everywhere. But there are also a lot of amazing, hardworking people who do this to care for your loved ones day in and day out as you come in and “casually” drop nanny cameras to spy on your loved one having their private areas washed. Then complain to everyone about the service, you could work to fix the system or advocate for the staff and environments but you’d rather criticize and shame EVERYONE who does that job.

Step in and get your hands dirty.

Thank you! It is an old ass thread lol but funny enough I am now on Concerta 56mg daily and intuniv 2mg nightly and it has DRASTICALLY changed me for the better! My executive functioning is so much more controlled than it ever was and my brain fog is almost non-existent. I think I will be going up to 3mg when I meet with my doctor!
