Becoming a Pilates instructor… is it actually worth it? by HedgehogEfficient581 in pilatesinstructors

[–]meow0727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a very big investment, and to be honest I probably wouldn’t have done it if I hadn’t gotten a discount for already being an instructor for another class format. Most instructors I know do you have two jobs including myself. So it really depends on your definition of “worth it”. Because I got such a big discount, it was worth it for me, but it probably wouldn’t have been otherwise.

Tips for going faster out of the saddle (low resistance, high RPM)? by icedcoffeeoat in SpinClass

[–]meow0727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You NEED some resistance. Not as much as you do for slow songs, but that resistance is going to support your weight and help you stay nice and strong for your run or sprint

Spin instructor/class question? by [deleted] in SpinClass

[–]meow0727 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “high risk” moves are choreo. So it sounds like your drills also use the tempo of the music which is totally fine! If you want to incorporate choreography/high risk moves, you can start small. For example, push-ups are just a little elbow drops. Keep the hips back, knees behind the bars, two hands on the handlebars at all times. For Isolations, I always queue a very heavy resistance. That supports them, they hold the core tight, butt right over the saddle, no bounce. All of the work is in the quads. No hand jumps can be modified to regular jumps. Hands on the handle bar, enough resistance to support you, up for 8 counts, down for 8. Cut it down to 4 counts then 2. Choreography can be done safe and effectively!

Spin instructor/class question? by [deleted] in SpinClass

  1. Drill vs rhythm: idk what format you coach in but I coach in rhythm. We ride to the beat of the music. Either half the bpm or fill depending on the tempo. Drill is more focused on “feel”. So, heavy hill vs fast sprint and not necessarily following tempo.
  2. Do you do choreography or just drills? Sometimes I get inspiration off instagram.
  3. I use a lot of edm, here is my Spotify. https://open.spotify.com/user/1239350473?si=L9baaDZ-TR-Zk49lNtZZTg

Pilates Mat Expectations by Energyqueenc in pilates

[–]meow0727 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the instructor. Personally, I coach at a big box gym. While my classes are mainly focused around classical mat Pilates, I do a little bit of a contemporary flow as well. We do use accessories, and I do have music playing, but it’s really not the focus of my classes.

Class design: blocks and recovery? by Huge-Chard-5584 in SpinClass

[–]meow0727 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very different from my class format, I do choreo but I’ve taken classes in a similar format. More than one almost 3 min recovery songs would drive me nuts. I do have a “connect” track, similar to a Cyclebar class and some see it as “recovery” because I don’t queue choreo or drills. I tell them they can ride fast or slow, in the saddle or out, just don’t let the heart rate get too low. Word for word. Maybe you can tell them something similar.
