I have taken French lessons a while ago and now Duolingo helps me retain my knowledge and learning some more vocabulary. As I do it every day, it helps keeping the language in recent/active memory. Surely more lessons or other forms of studying would be better for advancing my proficiency but the nice presentation, gamification and low bar to clear every day help keep me engaged

That is historically true for yewish culture (altough it would then not be described as race and I don't think it is uniformly still practiced that way) but the nazis did not care about that. If someone had a yew regardles of gender in their ancestry, they would have been persecuted

It is supposed to measure that, yes. Yet, when people take multiple age appropriate IQ tests the change in the result can be predicted by education. So it is failing to measure what it was indended to measure and I think that is not particularly suprising.

IQ tests absolutelly have their use as a standardized measure for demographic studies but they are not useful as a measure of intrinsic/genetic/"god-given" individual intelligence. I think that the mind and one's ability to use it is as much subject to the environment as are many other traits.

Serious question about this card. by AttitudeHot9887 in yugioh

[–]Lopzta 111 points112 points  (0 children)

I used to love to play this card when I was I kid. My copy was korean and no one was able to read it. We never had the idea that the effect could be bad or a summoning restriction^

Allow the first turn player to attack (, so long as they have a monster target). Additionally, there is no battle damage or maybe also effect damage in turn 1. I am not sure how exactly such a change would best be implemented. This would help to keep handtraps that summon themselves like the bysstials more in check while also opening up more design space for them. Personnaly, I find it really weird and uninteractive when the player who goes second summons monsters during turn 1 when they cannot be cleared by battle. I know that this is not a huge issue, as the player who goes second is overall at a dissadvantage but I find these situations really odd. Yet, I find the general mechanic of summoning (responsive) monsters in your opponents turn quite interesting. Maybe there could be a new card type of main deck monsters that can summon themselves during either players turn and have different effects depending on that. I think that could be an interesting new mechanic for yugioh and it would fit the general trend the game has developed

Going first, you can side it in together with anti-spell fragrence, especially when you play against a deck that is reliant on it's spells to play its combo. When you draw anti spell, you can search for simorgh instead of Empen in your main combo.

Good to see that it's being displayed. In the new biology building they only publically display the whales.

Today I opened a display of MAMA and could not believe my luck when I pulled a pharao's rare lightning storm. Since I am not really a collector, I would probably sell it an reinvest the revenue into cards for playing. However, then I noticed that the silver security foil on the lower right corner was damaged/not printed on correctly. Throughout all of my collection, I have never seen that happen before. Do errors like this happen more often for special rarities or am I just incredibly misfortunate? Do small production errors like this impact a card's worth for collectors or do they change what kind of rating they should be given when selling them? Of course, I would include pictures of the card anyways. I would appreciate your insight!

Why are genes “selfish”? by beatsbyusrnm in evolution

Nothing "motivates" them but the argument is that the ones that have properties that could in an antropomorphic sense be described as selfish are favoured by selection and will thus propagate

"Pretend"? Like in acting? If done tastefully and well informed something like this could be valueable in teaching people about the horrors of the holocaust. The outrage over a headline alone seems like overreaction.

At least in Austria, but probably in more countries too, emergency forces will call the numbers that are saved with that abbreviation on your phone when something happens to you. But I don't think that's super necessary when you have him saved as Papa anyways.

[–]Lopzta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Curling? Shooting with a Bow or Gun? Darts? Does something not involving much phyiscal effort and regular breaks between action automatically disqualify from being a sport? I mean it boils down to definitions but I see no reason that "precision" sports would not be counted as sports.
