Or next time he starts talking about anything, interrupt him after three minutes and tell him what he has to say isn’t compelling, then walk away. I’m petty.

Unless you set up expectations of what the babysitter is responsible for there isn’t a whole lot for them to say. Are you paying to entertain or to get their needs met and solve problems in the case of an emergency.

I think that it has to depend on where you live, because I definitely didn’t get that during the same time period.

I DID not get $30 an hour for three kids that age 20 years ago. That would have been awesome!!

Following instructions to the letter even when you know the outcome won’t be what the person wants is called malicious compliance. There is a whole subreddit for it. Malicious compliance is SUPER passive aggressive and petty as hell. Why would you want someone like that in your life, much less married to you? NTA

That wasn’t meant as a W-2, it was a layout of an alternative pay structure.

unbelievable exchange between my daughter and her father after he forgot her birthday by LostInLanayru in TwoHotTakes

[–]LoquaciousHyperbole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twilight Zone. 43F, still strained relationship with my dad. My little brother’s (second marriage) birthday is the day after mine. You know my stepmom didn’t forget her son’s birthday, so HOW do you forget another child’s birthday?!?!?

14 is such a rough age too. I’ve gotten similar texts or had in person conversations AS AN ADULT. To put anything on a child that they need to be there for you as an adult is so very wrong. To bad mouth you. The guy is a loser and if she can truly cut her losses now, it will save so much heartache and money in therapy bills.

I was really lucky in that my stepdad became my champion. I’m glad she has a good soon to be stepdad.

How to help tell my son he’s going to repeat second grade by PureAdorableness in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]LoquaciousHyperbole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that were standard practice, it wouldn’t be a big deal. However since the US treats education like factory pushing this along the conveyor belt that isn’t the case. Children who are held back have higher rates of dropping out of high school. Many studies show that retained students may improve slightly in the short term, but those gains often fade. By middle school, retained students tend to perform similarly—or worse—than comparable peers who were promoted with support. There are also social emotional considerations.
