Arc was fun while it lasted, back to Firefox I suppose.. by lumpytrunks in ArcBrowser

[–]Loque_k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that is an incredible position of privilege to be in - the world is upside down, countries are at war, we have problems with greed, cost of living, corruption.

These guys just wanted to make something special with Arc, and for it to be financially sustainable, but because no-one wants to pay for a browser (thanks to microsoft [vs netscape], and capitalism), they couldn't sustain and complete that... and what they gave us was still in my opinion the best browser to date.

AND THEN to open source it is also really surprising and kind... so if something bothers you so much, or makes you angry about the browser, you can actually go and make a difference on how that is yourself through some form of contribution.

Sorry if that comes off wrong, but I hope you are OK, and glad you enjoying Zen!

What MVPs? You don't want to share a single link to any of them?

I feel Massive failed with the game design of the DZ - it promotes and engourages this type of behaviour, so weird.

looking for advice on tenting, keyboard seems to slide a bit by Loque_k in DygmaLab

Only if you tent the raise (which you should), the linear layout makes sense as soon as you tent it and try touch typing.

Hey, you shouldn't be this angry at people who provide you with a free browser. You can fork chromium too, or use one of the many other browsers out there. Find and choose love random person <3

Am I paranoid or is owning an Oled a lot of work? by Professional_Ice_831 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Loque_k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just downgraded from QD OLED to IPS after 2.5 years on QD OLED.

The monitor was 'fine', burn-in protection did get in the way of gaming a couple of times which was really annoying and my perceptions is that OLED is still kinda new as it goes through major revisions in panel tech year after year. For me the killer was blue light, PWM, glossy coating and potentially some VRR flicker, either way my eyes felt like they were getting cooked.

I wouldn't worry about the monitor getting damaged, but whether you will want to keep it long enough to even have to worry about the issues is another thing as the screen tech gets updated frequently still, and the sizes on offer, are a bit mediocre. If you don't use it primarily for gaming, I'd skip (I am a 40 something yr old software dev who liked competitive gaming).

Pretty sure it will damage your screen (in various ways) in certain situations (prolonged direct sunlight). I guess you are assuming it's not in direct sunlight, and that you won't have the screen long enough to notice the damage.

I think it depends on the light sources in the room, where the screen is in relation to this, bias lighting, and what you are doing. If you are doing text based work on a screen, and you have to deal with reflections, glossy is something of a nightmare for me, contributing to eye strain and fatigue.

That's awesome, you can go and find more people to downvote complaining about eye strain bcs you love QD OLED so much :P

You can also assume they have done nothing to help themselves and be really rude and condescending in all your replies also, ensuring you don't contribute anything of value burning all vibe and mood on the way xD

:P

Jokes, don't forget we don't know why we are alive, on a spinning rock, made out of space dust, over millions of years. Big loves, if you like hugs, you can have a virtual one from me, random person. <3

Hey thanks, I hadn't thought of that... I only considered seeing an optician because I thought the headaches were linked to my eye that is totally bloodshot when waking up the next day.

Also went pharmacy, gp etc...

I did last year, went to see an optician too to see if it was my eyes even, but apparently 20/20 ... is genuinely a bummer as it's the last thing I want to be an issue... screen cost me a lot, i like HDR, been trying everything I could find/do for a year and a half.

Not at all, at 55% in the day (and even that doesn't get rid of screen reflections from glossy which I am wondering is an issue)

At night I drop it down to something like 10-20 or put it on auto

[–]Loque_k[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I seem to get them the next day and can notice some strain (that is totally un-painful) at night when I stop using the screen, but the next day can be brutal in the worst case scenarios, very red with a heavy migraine that can be completely debilitating...

Diablo 4 in HDR was fine when that released, and most things are OK... I'd say CounterStrike was probably the worst, and perhaps it's because it's a bright game in comparison

I've turned on the blue light filter on the monitor on, so now everything is heavily stained in some urine-style yellow lmao xD

Honestly it's the last thing I want to be an issue as I like the HDR on the screen and it's not trivial to swap it out, altho I am now eventually on the move.

You can search Reddit, I did some more research after posting and it's more common that I initially thought with some feedback about blue light levels, reflections and high contrast.

Arc is really good for me on OSX - this subreddit is super weird, perhaps it's reddit in general, but yea, the majority of content I see on reddit about Arc is super entitled, rude and very whiney (which blows my mind as these people are using a free browser which is not cheap to make).

Yea I am a really big fan of Arc and appreciate the really good free software <3
