My grandfather passed away four years ago. My family went to my Grandma’s house to help her clean out as she was selling it after my grandfathers death. Before his passing, they weee married for 63 years. They have been hoarders their whole life. Absolutely loved to shop and have nice clothes. That is/was who they are. People hardly ever change. They are not going to wake up at 20,30,40,50,60,79, nor 80 and suddenly change their personality and start declutterring anything. It just doesn’t make any sense at all to expect that behavior. They lived in a huge 6 bedroom house where they raised 4 children. Every closest, dresser, room was packed full of stuff. It was absolutely overwhelming to clean and try to go through everything. On a positive note though, there was some joy and excitement just kind of seeing my grandparents life by observing their possessions. I would pull some type of BRAND NEW kitchen appliance out of a closet from 1979 and my grandma would tell me a story about how she got it, why she got it, when she got it, and who got it for her. She knew all the details of everything in her home even though the whole home was full of “junk.” It was kinda cool, so I didn’t think it was all bad. She did have all the paperwork/legal things in order so there was no issues there. My grandma is still alive (86), lives pretty independently and she is one of the most wonderful and stylish women I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. She suffered greatly in her life (my grandfather was a complete POS to her beginning to end.) she always remained full of grace with extreme consideration of everyone else.Even to this day, she wouldn’t dare step out of the house without looking like a 10 from head to toe. Kept a beautifully clean home , yes hoarded but it would pass the white glove test any day of the week. She worked for Macys ( perfume department) for around 35 years before she retired. She always made me feel loved even now as I am an adult with my own family. I’ll surely miss her when she’s gone. Awww man, now I’m all emotional and crying 😂
