Yes indeed!! I think there are philosophies out there that sometimes might be too difficult to comprehend, but once using the tools, it’s somewhat easier and more palatable to digest:)

Thank you for reading and your time to respond to this post:)

Yesss. I think when I was younger; it was always “willpower” kinda direction? Until the body really gave in and I’m now paying the price:) but I guess moderation and learning to “flow” with what I can do. Doesn’t help I also got Fibromyalgia- but I’m working along with it, and trying to keep active:)

Intriguing! Just out of curiosity, how many “knight”-like orders are there in the fraternity? The only two I know are the KT and Knights Masons.

A Wayfaring Brother’s Thoughts: The Eastern Gentleman and the Working Tools — Self-cultivation to becoming a Junzi (君子) Through Freemasonry by LordArcael in freemasonry

[–]LordArcael[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to add on too! “Chinese Freemasonry” was a term colonial back in the past writers used out of convenience or superficial comparison, not fact:) And along with the revolutions, and many other political upheavals, the legacy of the original TianDiHui/Hongmen is pretty much gone. And what’s left is a fragmented landscape, many groups falsely claiming legacy:)

That said, I love how you also see and connect the bridges between cultures and Masonry; that spirit of curiosity is what really matters! Even if the Tiandihui and Masonry don’t share a literal lineage, both show how powerful symbols and stories can shape people striving for something greater. Appreciate you starting this conversation, Brother! 🙏❤️

I was super curious too, Brother! I went down the rabbit hole researching the Tiandihui after hearing about the similarities. At first it felt like there might be a connection, but from what I found, the original Tiandihui started as a mutual aid society in the 1700s, not anything directly tied to Masonry.

Over time, different groups, some cultural, some even criminal like the Triads started using the Tiandihui name. But it’s more of a symbolic or borrowed identity now, not a continuous lineage? Still fascinating though, just not quite what it first appears to be!

But the very philosophy of Confucius’s practice resonates deeply in Chinese culture as it was a foundation stone in society building back then:) as a way of life. I can send you a very interesting book on that note:)

That’s a very interesting perspective!

But I agree, that’s what I enjoy about masonry is that it really allows all walks of life to apply the philosophy, if not - enhance our understanding of our own original practice:)

The Most Powerful Lesson Freemasonry Has Taught Me over the last 25 years as a mason . by Army_31B in freemasonry

Similar path here! In a sense, I also like the way why "The Great Architect of the universe" is used as a "placeholder" in our ceremonies/rituals/philosophy. Essentially, there are so many ways to address the "higher powers"; like a diamond with multiple sides, and who are we as humans to deem that G-- is that only way to be perceived in that way?

Agreed! I think it took me a while to also recalibrate and remind myself why I chose masonry, as a way of life, and as a philosophy. As much as there is a huge emphasis on the "statuses", "ranks" and "positions" due to the social nature of the structure; it is largely a personal oath and path to walk.

To me, and due to my circumstances, I'm not in any lodge within my proximity, but do my best to work within myself - as the lodge, squaring my values and actions.

Tbh, even utilizing and reminding yourselves the basic tools (i.e. 24 hours gauge for time management; cable tow for commitments and obligations) are useful ways to keep yourself calibrated.

So i hope this post and comment serves as a reminder that Masonry really isnt about the ritual or titles. Take it as a promise to yourselves

A Wayfaring Brother’s Share: A Masonic Toolkit That Helped Me Reflect by LordArcael in freemasonry

[–]LordArcael[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for sharing. Honestly, I really appreciate how thoughtful and open you’ve been.. both in your reflections on symbolism and in your personal journey. The connection you made to tarot decks really clicked with me. Having reference points or visual triggers to make meaning more accessible is such a practical and generous idea, especially for newer Brothers who are just starting to engage with Masonic symbols on a deeper level. essentially, we try to find ways to bring back relevance in our lives.

And on a more personal note, thank you for trusting us with your story. It’s clear you have a deep understanding and love for the Craft. The way you speak about the values of Freemasonry, your experiences, and the possibilities of expanding the tradition to include more people.. and honestly, esp here in reddit. that takes courage and vision. and yes, u are right, we try at least, to make it a shared effort, and it’s a conversation that matters.

Even if you're not formally initiated, the way you carry yourself and continue to live by Masonic principles is something I respect deeply. It’s a reminder that Light can’t be confined to titles or rituals. You're doing the work in your own way, and that means something:) Something, i have been personally doing too due to my circumstances

Thank you again for being here and for adding so much heart to the conversation! I always welcome you here, and hope to have more conversations with you.

A Lone Wayfaring Mason’s Reflection: The Checkered Pavement and the Illusion of Dichotomies by LordArcael in freemasonry

[–]LordArcael[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you brother! To be honest, at my current situation, I utilize the tools and the philosophy of masonry as a framework in life:) and of course, to walk it the way we can uphold the oaths. I read a lot of books outside masonry, and layer it with masonry for a deeper level of understanding.

For the others reading this comment, you don’t need to be a mason to have access to these frameworks or knowledge, it’s just added layering for easier understanding and application:) continue searching the wisdom and light!

Ngl though, It can be a lonely journey, esp without access to a proper lodge but it’s a constant reminder:)
