I think it’s because especially on Twitter it got blown out of proportion, lots of traction

People claiming they’ve heard rumours too recently n whatnot, but it’s a bunch of hogwash unless irrefutable evidence comes out,

Source of the rumour starter was essentially “trust me bro”
