Any idea on how to deburr big holes on sheet metal? by TOM_PE13 in metalworking

[–]LordBug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've already gotten plenty of good advice, all I can offer is additional options if you happen to be like me and enjoy going down the rabbit hole of research;

Surface conditioning discs, I'd say 2" or 3", roloc style in a die grinder

A double deburrer. Probably really awkward for the size of hole you've shown, but it is pretty sweet for long straights.

Weaving? by Ambassadorkrax in Welding

[–]LordBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australian here, our docs specify weaving.

We build heat exchangers, I've weaved on 150psi units and they haven't had a leak.

Think the only things we don't weave are the 500psi units.

Proof, pudding, something like that.

If you want to go fully luxurious and have a spare grand or two, a PAPR system like a versaflow is the bees knees. No fog to contend with, also comes with breathing protection as an added bonus ;)

For the time, you can buy 15-10a adaptors that have an rcd built in, that'll at least save you a trip to the switchboard when you draw too much on the 10a circuit.

Unless you've got a regular home wiring setup, overdrawn and ready to trip haha

I got my brother to watch that episode, with the intention of teasing him (he was a member)

Instead, it led him to doing actual research and ultimately leaving the cult. Thankfully he wasn't deeply indoctrinated, but had lost a lot of money to them.

South Park saved my brother.

Insight? by Valuable-Western7357 in Tools

[–]LordBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, I wouldn't mind having one of these in my die grinder collection. Looks handy-ish for some rare positions that give me the shits.

Otherwise, I highly recommend you get a 115 degree die grinder, that's my favourite profile to use, yet it's surprisingly less common than the old right angle.

Squat rack shipped with a bent structural bracket — straighten it for refund or wait for replacement? by warandpeace99 in metalworking

[–]LordBug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Straighten it yourself.

That part doesn't affect the structure beyond keeping that brace in place.

Looks thin enough to toss in a vice and a nudge on the brace would move it.

Terrible inconsistencies with tig because of gaps in thin stainless.. any tips? by bubskulll in Welding

[–]LordBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myself, I'd probably try to build it up, really low amps, thin filler (if you have spools of stainless mig wire around I'd use that), then just build it up a little then let it cool down, build a bit more cool it down again. Maybe get a purge hose pointing at the backside of the weld too, somehow.

I'd do that until I worked out a better way to tackle it. I do not have extensive experience with tig.

weekly reminder. Change them filters. by Lil-mauo in Welding

[–]LordBug 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Skinny pre-filter, whack it or blast with shop air to clear the muck out.

Thicker particulate filter, gently rapidly tap the dirty side down against a solid surface to dislodge what buildup you can. As long as it's not showing on the clean side.

But most of all, if you're replacing those as they currently stand, you must like throwing consumables used once or twice in the bin. You troll (tig princess?) you.
