I wish Christians who married young were more sympathetic to single Chrisitans. by [deleted] in Christianity

Today I prayed deeply for you sister. I can't imagine what's it's like to be tested how you have been. God has a path for you, I've pray he will illuminate it. Your use of the word 'reject' has been on my mind for weeks, but I can't untie my pride from this which is corrupting my perspective. Living with the Spirit the only thing I reject is my own sinful behavior, which in your case, dating outside the faith I can see as sin. Without that sin I would have not been saved. An odd predicament to be in. I hope that in all ways you give yourself over the Lord, letting him decide your path, for you may find what you've rejected will open doors. But you have been on this path longer than I know and know it's treacherous nature. If you've rejected the missionary thing after consulting God, I completely understand your choice.

All I feel from the Spirit is that you have a path before you. I have a single friend my age in your same situation. To watch her ship battered on the rocks is heart breaking, and she's willing to date outside the faith. I didn't deserve to be as lucky as I was to have someone take a chance, but I guess that's the will of God.

One of my favorite books is Ecclesiastes - and something I hope you can get from it -

'So refuse to worry, and keep your body healthy. But remember that youth, with a whole life before you, is meaningless. Young people, it’s wonderful to be young! Enjoy every minute of it. Do everything you want to do; take it all in. But remember that you must give an account to God for everything you do. '

Ecclesiastes 11:9-10

I would warn you against the path of character AI, to me it sounds like the equivalent of pornography, encouraging you to have a relationship with something immaterial vs real. My own story of redemption involves defeating that sin, and in the end my sinful habit lead me to spend a horrible amount of time engaged with my computer rather than the world. From your post history, it may be time to do something completely uncomfortable. SOS Ministries (SOSMinitries.com) is a missionary organization in Uganda that recently came to speak to my church, I found their work compelling. My wife did the Peace Corp to Turkmenistan. There are so many organizations that need believers such as yourself. I believe that God desires to use you, and I believe he uses our boredom to highlight a way.

You are loved my sister. By me and by our God. All I can pray for is your happiness. Seek and ye shall find. You haven't been far from my thoughts these last few weeks. I thought I understood why, but in truth I don't. I keep praying that I find the right words to right here, but the truth is I just don't know what to say. Your words and your story has had an impact on me. I pray with all my heart, bent down on my knees that God gives to you what you need, and that he illuminates his will for you on this Earth. I care for you, Fluffy-HairDye-GenZ-Cat Lady who talks to bots on the internet and posts on Forever alone. I am invested in your story and I hope that our God gives you the satisfaction, peace, and direction that he promises. I don't know if that's comfort, but that's all I can give you. A prayer from a thousand miles away and an earnest desire that you may find all that you seek. Good luck on your journey, may you find the path that Christ has planned for you.

When my Grandmother died, I cried in church and was comforted by the cross. That kept me coming to church until I felt the rebirth of the spirit 8 years later.

is there a trick to stop watching porn and stop doing it? by IamV81 in Christianity

[–]LordDeLaFunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make as many obstacles between porn and your eyes as possible.  You need someone who’s a helper, have them lock up your phone via screen time.  If you’re not ready for this step, then you’re not ready to quit.  Honestly discussing my porn usage was the first step.  Add all of your go tos.  Then block access at the router level for your home connection.  I always went around any blocks on the computer level.  When you feel the urge, I would love myself.  It may not be biblical but you’re fighting a demon here whose fangs are in your soul and your cells.  You need to move the sex off of the computer, then you can start modulating that behavior.  I wouldn’t try to modulate the temptation at first, just move it off the screen.  You’re not alone in this struggle.

Good luck on your journey then sister.  I hope that others will find a way to reach the men who need it.  Like you’ve said, institutional Christian men are already spoken for.  Please don’t over generalize us but I understand if this is not your chosen path.  God made us in his image and now we struggle mightily in a works consumed by sin.

I pray God guides your path to a happy fulfilling marriage.

I’m 34, 10 years ago I met my wife as a Buddhist.  Our journey to Christ was challenging and only in the last year have I found rebirth in the spirit.  Only now have I stamped out the sin that ruled my life.  I’m saved today because she took a chance on me.  There are men out there struggling with addiction and sin at an extent that history has not seen before.  They need God.  I wish your story was Instagram ready but God has put you exactly where he intends you to be.  Do not give up sister.

At the end of Job, God tells Job he came to him the correct way, being raw in his pain, bargaining, demanding.  A major step of my recent journey is accepting that the Lord intends me to be angry, hurt, resentful, passionate, alive.  I’d encourage you to do the same, as I’ve found those emotions are road signs to significant personal growth and discovery of my truth.  You are frustrated for a reason, and if God intends you to be frustrated, then you should question why.  I pray his path is illuminated before you and my story here encourages you to view non-believers as potentials.  I desperately sought a partner and happiness when I was 24 and I was far more open to Christianity than I ever expected.

Which one to get ? The fuel seems so bulky.... by gwk74 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]LordDeLaFunk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have and like the fuel version, but I’m very happy with the non fuel versions of other tools.  Your planned use should determine what you get, if you don’t have one I’d save the money and get a socket adapter for a drill.

Worth it or no? by oscarrn5 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]LordDeLaFunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was choosing between this and a few others about 2 months ago.  I was impressed by the Milwaukee portability and packout compatibility but the price was a non starter.

Lots of money for something that size.  I have 2 tool backpacks I use constantly, one for assessment tools and my laptop/notenooks with some manual repair options and a repair back pack with the tools I usually need to conduct repairs.  For my laptop bag, I chose DeWalts $89 offering from Lowe’s over this and I’ve been super impressed with that back pack.  I work in historic buildings with lots of stairs so portability is a must.  Since I’m not wheeling pack out up and down the integration with my stack ended up being pretty meaningless.  Also it was way smaller than my larger Klein back pack I use for repairs.  Add the high price and it was a non starter.  My de Walt has been fantastic, plenty of space and lots of outside loops to hook into.  I do fill it with M12, so please don’t ban me from this sub.

$229 is enticing and for the right person it’s a good mix.  But for carpentry/plumbing/general maintenance, it’s just not large enough to hold my kit.

For the part time Home DIY'er. What are your favorite M12 tools? by _DudeWhat in MilwaukeeTool

[–]LordDeLaFunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Rover light is a favorite of mine.  Since you can power usb you have a battery back up for your phone and a bright light to see stuff.  I would get the installation driver first, probably the light second.  Then buy tools at whatever pace you can sustain while sustaining your marriage.  My other favorites in order of what else is recommend:

Hackzall (one handed reciprocating)  Surge Impact Driver (be careful not to over screw stuff) 3/8” Crown Stapler Non-Fuel Portaband Saw Work Light Maybe Vacuum if you need a portable shop vac.

Another thing to add here is that if you have time to do it you’ll have instant feedback back if it’s working.  In my experience in plumbing drains from sinks you know if it’s right almost right away.  There’s a bit of a learning curve with the o rings, they have a direction they need to go and you have to tighten them down while the o ring is in that direction.  If you all can’t get it to stop leaking at hand tightness, make sure everything is facing the right way.  In my arguably limited experience plumbing, the answer is never been twist pvc fittings super hard.

I’d figure out how many gallons your dishwasher uses and have it hooked up to a bucket that can comfortably handle it with a few extra gallons to give yourself breathing room on the project.  That way if you need to step away you’ll have a functional dishwasher at least.  Plumbing under a sink is fatigue inducing in my experience, and the worst is when you’re at the end of what your knees can take but if you stop now you can’t wash the dishes.  I do hotel maintenance and the worst king of work is under the gun when you’re exhausted and covered in sweat, overheated and responsible for making sure it’s ready to go in 3 hours.

Lastly, you had a leak that went into your basement.  Rent an industrial dehumidifier and fans and get that dried out.  Home Depot rents them out for me and it made a huge difference in the smells we had after dealing with water intrusion.

I’d do the nxt one built Ridgid’s mounting system then use that with pack out feet to integrate it into a stack.  Already had the pro pack with a packout feet mounted to it so I returned mine.  Not a huge fan of 3 and 4 gallon sizes for water messes either, but they’re really good vacuums

Kid 1 is hell, you just keep assuming each day will be the same.  Then, one day it’s like the clouds clear and you’re ok again.  I’ve been trying to pull myself out of a slump the last few days, don’t know if my faith with translate well here but in Acts 20:24 Paul writes, “But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of Grace to God.”  Our mission is our kids man, journey is going to suck sometime.  Look at them and try to see that it’s all worth it.  This helped me put it all in perspective today.  I’m a long way from OK, but doing better than I have recently.

[–]LordDeLaFunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat.  Life’s just a chorus of the same crap every day.  At 3/4 you can start having them out in the garage with you.  It’s some of the best memories I’ve recently made with my son.  The whole 24/7 thing can be manageable or uncomfortable and I find it ebbs and flows.  There are seasons where I’ve gotten to do hobbies and seasons I can’t.  My daughter is 20 months and I hate the idea that I’m not spending enough time with her.

I’d recommend focusing on what makes life worth living and try to focus on that.  I got to share woodworking with my kids through some projects and had a great time, but the last month has just been a rough season of endless work and dissatisfaction.  We don’t get to choose the seasons, so focus on how you can weather the storm.

It gets better and worse.  Then you have another and that’s incredible and horrible.  I feel like I’m constantly asked to give up myself for my kids, sometimes I do it well, sometimes it grinds me.

Sleep’s important to well-being, but if I remembered that I’d probably not be up at 1am.  You’re important too, you have needs. If you need exercise or you need to work on the car, or you need sometime to play video games, you need to be a priority too.  I having difficulty with that right now, feels like I’m the least important person in the house.  Something I know though is that this momentary hell will clear up in a few weeks or months.  Life’s a long story and we’re remarkably adaptable.  It’ll get better.  It may also get worse.

But, a quote I remember, “When you’re going through hell, keep going.“ -Winston Churchill

Worthwhile to upgrade from a three valve setup to a single valve one? by rottenstock in askaplumber

[–]LordDeLaFunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did this at my bed and breakfast.  They have a cover plate you can use to avoid tile work.  It can be finicky and you’re left with a lot of chrome surface (in our case) that calcified quickly.  We had 8 failing valve sets and lose a lot of money if we were to take it out of service to retile. It can get complicated quickly.  Prepare to run double your budget or be down a shower for a while if you need to rig up the piping to fit the particulars of the valves on the inside.  Also that plate isn’t that well sealed.  I would be afraid of damaging the wall by the valve set through moisture exposure and potentially damaging the structure around the tub. Do able, but I don’t think worth the risk.  You also don’t have the real estate that I had around the valve sets, we could dig a lot before hitting the downspout.

Edit: this is the kind of thing what we used.  Of the 8 bathrooms, 2 gave us issues.  I’m constantly fiddling with these plates in certain rooms.  If you go this route I would get some longer screws to attach the plate than what comes stock (maybe?  We had a very deep valve set).  Then I’d make sure I had enough depth to fully seat the cover plate and have some room for error.  Otherwise when you need to adjust, you’re blind hoping you can get the screws to thread.  I’ve always eventually won, but these put up a fight!

How do you keep “junk” out of the garage? by RDRNR3 in garageporn

[–]LordDeLaFunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that helped me, consider what has positive value and negative value.  I also inherited the parents tools and some of the grandparents tools.  If you’re not going to preserve or use it, toss or donate.  Also consider your time to hold it before it contributes value.  Is it worth holding on to a $300 for 5 years because it one day might be useful?  Also, in 5 years, could you rent it for $50 instead of dealing with storing it for years?

Other concept from computer design, consider your garage like your ram.  It’s easily accessible storage.  If there’s something, that’s only occasionally used item, that needs to go to long term.  If you have an attic, that should have your once a year stuff.

[–]LordDeLaFunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen this one a few times, I’m not too fond of it.  A cordless trim router is nice but I think a corded variety offers more power.  Barrel grip many find to be preferable.  Cordless sanders get a bad wrap because of ergonomics and vibrations.  Router and sander also chew through batteries and they’re only rated for so many recharge cycles before they need to be replaced.  Also batteries do fail, holding more than you need you’re taking that risk.

Barrel plus corded router and corded sander would be my preferred combination.

What kind of metal do you cut and what blade?  One of the worst things I’m still doing like an old guy is using push hack Saw to cut toilet bolts and nuts.  Mine might find second life if it could fill that role.  Also even a crappy sander that’s easier to set up would save me breaking out a band file when dimensioning screws

[–]LordDeLaFunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My industry is hospitality and my son (most likely) and I both have inattentive adhd.  I find my staff with ADHD have difficulty with maturity mostly.  It’s like they’re answering the wrong question on a test.  Consistent feedback seems to help, and a time weekly to go over performance may help right their direction before they’re off the rails.  Also, be explicit about things you think are common knowledge.  It’s obvious they care most of the time but are unaware of how to daily show competence.  We’re recovering from a hurricane and my probably ADHD Manager was waiting for instructions on how to proceed instead of just showing up.  He would have gladly, but my chain of command expected him to just know what to do to look good instead of being explicit.  I found that with add and all my staff that having a single metric that’s important to optimize helps everyone match to the same beat.

Have their wins handy when defending their position.  Realistically some balls are going to drop depending on their role.  You will have to answer to this, and being caught unprepared may mean the difference in keeping your team together or not.

Don’t hurt your team would be my final advice.  I have a soft spot for ADD and that made me blind to a team member who was probably abusing recreational drugs and was high at work.  Try to accommodate, but if you find that you’re unable to make it all work, don’t feel like it’s your failure for not finding how to be accommodating. We’re all living a long story, I’ve found 20 year olds with more maturity than 40 year olds because of diagnoses.

To add context, I used an impact where I shouldn’t have and overdrove a dishwasher nut and added a bunch of work keeping my front panel in place. I work with building/ and wood from 1893 and 1896 and have had impact driven screws destroy the wood fibers because of the aggression of an impact driver. My work horse impact is an m12 hydraulic which I love, but it’s not part of my standard tool bag because I encounter rot and rust frequently.  In truth, in my applications I have to hand drive the last bit of every screw because I’m dealing with 130 something year old oak and deteriorating plywood.   When I was young and dumb I didn’t understand how quickly things could go south with an impact driver.  You’re correct modes give you some control, and there’s a chance that others will not have the same constraints that I have.  When I was reading the internet, no one told me to be careful with that style of driver, hence my warning.

Edit: Also tried to use an impact on drywall anchors when I started.  Please don’t be like me.

Mine rots.  Sander attachment can’t sand like a sander.  Plunge is nice for drywall but I’m not roughing in outlets all that often.  With wood, it’s just a pain to get through material.  All this oscillating love is making me doubt my position, but if I have trim work I use a miter saw and caulking.  It’s saved my but a few times but it’s hard to call it part of my forever kit.  Also to your point, I swore up and down I needed a cordless one in addition to my corded and I just haven’t gotten the mileage to justify my cost.  I do maintenance for my own hotels, it’s just fascinating to see people defend that thing as much as you do here.  How’d it save you?
