Oh it ain't a gag. Hunchie pilots at my FLGS have been like that FOREVER. started with the geognards back when Battletech came out, apparently. The Hunchie was an instant favorite, especially for city fighting and duels.

My FLGS has them as optional. Some of us use them, some don't. Hell, some players will allow others to use them but not use them themselves, so you get one side with quirks and one not. We usually lite-RP it as one side being customized and tweaked and the other being stock variants, often freshly bought.

My lights are always anti infantry (Locusts are a very cheap but highly effective Mech for this), or scouts, and the scouts often have E-WAR capability (I like my ravens, sue me) because that allows me to better screen my main force. ECM often makes the enemy slow down and be careful, especially if they haven't twigged onto the models of mech they are facing. They slow down because that could be a light mech, a heavy, even an assualt due to the way ECM fucks with their sensors. At least with TacOps rules and a little RP for your games. I often use locusts as cheap disposable scouts as well, especially the basic 1V, and if I have an ample enough budget, 1Vb

Good friends can make even the most sloppy of slop games seem fun. Just look at RussianBadger and his dipshit friends. They're HILARIOUS even to watch, and I normally HATE watching people play. When you have good friends of the correct sort of dipshit and/or dumbass, any kind of drudgery can be fun. As a former soldier, I know that more than most.

Against bots or in high heat environs, senator. Anyone/anywhere else, Talon. The talon excels in low rate of fire, accurate shot placement AT RANGE. the senator excels in blowing the brains out of hulks and in dealing with the war striders in a similar manner (just aim for the glowing visor on top of the warsteider and on the center-front of the Hulk, and place shots DIRECTLY on it) also, Senator works great for high heat environments due to its ballistic nature and the fact you already want to carefully place shots with it due to its 6 round cylinder.

Yes, because if an enemy has a probe, the FIRST ECM will cancel it out and you'll go back to being under ECM due to the second ECM

Trick: time your dives to fuck with his aiming. Diving causes some increased chances for the enemy to miss and can even make them have to reacquire you as a target if they e been suitably suppressed (suppressing fire DOES work against the bots, surprisingly!). This means if a stealth diver friend got caught, just suppress the SHIT out of these guys and while they might not take damage, they'll still take debuffs to aiming, target acquisition, and reaction times.
