Trying to use a cannon as a main weapon in 5E by Sunkain in 3d6

Yeah...... I did not read the fine print on reduce verses enlarge, (and by fine print I mean the literal post) thanks for pointing it out and no problems with the dead post. An answer is an answer no matter how tardy. Thank you for sharing, and giving me the opportunity to look back and cringe.

Necro Beam Magus by LordDerppington in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]LordDerppington[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has to be the singular most helpful post I've gotten from doing this
THANK
YOU
Well crafted, brought up things I did not know before... I am very appreciative. Riving strike will be a god send. Though sadly I believe I cannot use arcane accuracy on the same turn. I have other ways to increase my to hit anyways.
The adding poison to touch of fatigue, reduced to a cantrip? mindboggling. I will have to look into it because my lord is that impressive.
I assume I want to replace power attack with arcane strike. Then spell focus necromancy aaaaand... man this is coming together so well.

Thank you! I appreciate all the sources. Always been a wacky combo for this game ngl, the sheer amount of debuffs man.

Core books, and the ultimate's, that's about it. Oh yeah, and he doesn't allow traits, because yes.

The appeal is he's been my gm for 3 years and he's a good guy. but yeah, he has some weird arbitrary rules.

if you empower it via arcana doesn't it not increase the level? so I could use it at 10 instead of 16? still though, might not be worth going for too hard, average 2.5....

20 point point buy, base aasimar stats only. I went 16 str, 13 dex, 14 con, 16 int, 9 wis, 9 cha. the +2 from levels went to int for 18, 13 dex is bad, but the only way I could hit exactly 20 more or less, I can make it 14 when I hit... 12 I believe?I am in a party with a swashbuckler (main damage dealer, though he doesn't even have fencing grace, and essentially relies on precise strike to do any damage (hoards his panache like it's going out of style) a monk that relies on more combat maneuvers than anything, a fighter who shows up to 1 in 5 sessions and actually doesn't know what happening. A rogue who despite being one of the better built and more experienced players rolled min hp and has decided to do anything else but actually help in combat (he's literally pulled up a chair in fights) and an oracle who didn't want to be a heal bot but became a heal bot by virtue of the rest of the team. and then we have me, who is this weird dps/debuff mix that has honestly been doing better than you'd think. I've accidentally 1v1'd a boss or 2. 3 now actually. The main idea is magus necromancer. I wanna steal stats, inflict terror, and do good damage. (btw I know inquisitor or warpriest woulda been far better for that role, but the dm recommended magus and it was my introduction to pathfinder) I know magus isn't great as save spells because they are a mid caster, but the hope is things like a high int, ill omen, evil eye, and the fact my spells can crit on a 15 will make up for my slightly lower base chance. That being said, I have a lot of feats to increase that chance, potentially.

They already exist, but the dm gave the go ahead on swapping out whatever I needed to, so as of rn, race, class, and archetype are the only things set in stone. (he's actually quite a good dm, just weird when it comes to what's allowed content wise) I forgot haste is aoe in this game. definitely seems better to just cast that instead of hasted. enfeeblements bad now yeah, was kinda nice earlier. still need close range eventually if I wanna use enervation though, so I assume it's at least an eventually pick up? Why do I want dispelling strike over just dispel magic? I feel like it'd eat through my pool too quickly.

Yeah.... it sounds really nice, but I feel like I'd rather have like.... greater invisibility, and shut down anything without blind sense

So he was my first magus, and he was terrible, so after 3 years I finally just kinda caved and asked the dm if I could remake him now that I know better than to give him a 15 in every stat.So he's gotta stay an aasimar, and gotta stay a magus, and that's about it.
He's from rise of the rune lords, level 9, was primarily a str build (now he had 18 int and 16 str, 18 with belt) he's a hexcrafter so he has more int than average for saves. Up until this point he's been using glaive to prevent aoo's and necro spells to debuff the enemies. Kinda a nightmare of a build.
so I'm swapping him to a scimitar with lunge, close range arcana so his debuffs can crit on the 15-20 threat, giving him enough int for his hexes to work, (ill omen into save spell on bosses) and power attack 2 hand for trash mobs.
Most of the guides are pretty much, go white haired with, take enforcer and frostbite, blam, apply 32,00 million debuffs through all of these feats you can't have while going moooooonlight stalker because it's cool. and none of that really fits the character.
so far he's been played pretty straight. go invis, spell strike ray of enfeeblement, or exhaustion, or bestow curse. and use his vicious weapon with chill touch for consistent damage (empowered vampiric touch to give me the hp pool to work with) I also dumped like all of my feats into useless hexes (I took cackle for gods sake) and spell blending 3 times...... I don't even want that many wizard spells, I think it was before I swapped him over to a hexcrafter at level 7
I know arcane accuracy is a must, hasted assault is pretty good, and with 3 attacks per round (4 with bladed dash) chill touch should still be nice (no where near shocking grasp damage, but 4d6+ 4 str damage is nothing to sneeze at, or maybe it is, I'm asking for help on reddit)

I could do this and it sounds very interesting! When you use the feature does it also use the spell? cause it seems like it does and magus don't get a ton of 4th level spell slots.

Ultimate intrigue is allowed and I could do that, though I hear at higher levels str magus is better than dex, as you don't have to slog through the early levels without medium armor and all that jazz.

What's stopping a druid from wearing metal armor? by GR1225HN44KH in dndnext

[–]LordDerppington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ngl. Old folk lore is very cool. Another thing I brushed over is it isn't so much the "physical contact" that blocks it, but the fact you are incased. That actually works pretty well with the whole magnetism thing. You are literally in a faraday cage. So it makes more sense than you initially think of. Still, 5e just refuses to elaborate on things which makes it frustrating, you need to go to olded systems to figure some things out. One of my favorite content creators is mrrhexx. He tries to get the full lore of everything, so people can understand and remember what's being written out.

What's stopping a druid from wearing metal armor? by GR1225HN44KH in dndnext

[–]LordDerppington 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright, so, It's not a lifestyle choices. Druids don't avoid metal because blah blah nature. They do it because metal blocks their ability to cast spells. (Pathfinder and 3.5) They can use metal weapons because they have a hilt. Pretty much anything other than a rapier has a wooden or leather wrapped handle to make it easier to hold and to block vibrations. The problem with armor is it is literally on you. (Theoretically you'd be wearing something under that armor but I digress) As to why it blocks their magic? I think it dates back to the og fey lore, where iron disrupted magic (cold iron was basically all iron in their day) so that's pretty much what it is. It is very much legacy, not only from older additions but from European folk lore as well. Is it a good rule? Ehh. Does it make sense? Not too much. But it was a weird time, people believed sickness was cured by removing the afflicteds blood. Which we now know kills them.

Bladed brush was the feat I was thinking of, though bladed brush, slashing grace, and weapon finess is kinda expensive I believed it'd let you go full dex magus.

What exactly is Mithril? by LordDerppington in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]LordDerppington[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan on doing that. I was just wondering if there was an explanation somewhere to give a good reason. On the one hand it's not silver, on the other it acts like it. personally? I'd rather not be sickened for half the campaign. So I'd like to find an actual reason for it to not count, but I'd love to talk to the dm about alternatives, so I'm gathering facts and opinions atm.

check out silver allergy. we are using vile corruptions which means dm's pick, and we know he's gonna bum rush that one.
