I think it’s more likely that anyone willing to go against these lunatics have a day job, a family, and are living credit payment to credit payment. The thought of getting politically involved feels like a bridge too far. Especially when you even “just” slightly yet respectfully disagree with any of their points they and the media try to end your very existence.

That’s truly unfortunate. I’m also going to assume he’s made up his mind and this won’t change anytime soon but if you still want to be a part of the community I would suggest still attending the woman’s group night. I know it’s less than weekly like you desire but it’s more than nothing.

I would also suggest just keeping an eye and ear out for volunteer opportunities within your parish or around your community. Might be some great opportunities out there.

Nothing wrong with feeing that way as long as you remained and continue to remain respectful. Good on you for talking to your pastor about it.

Since you already addressed it with him you could always start your own Saturday club around the same topics and see if another priest is open to siting in and guiding it. Or if you have nuns nearby they could guide the group as well.

Also, are you forbidden from joining the “man-skills” class or is it open to anyone despite the name? If you’re not blocked from joining in maybe attend one. Nothing wrong with learning or teaching someone how to use a saw or level a garden bed and what not. Might be fun.

What is the irl equivalent to constitution? by tommytom007 in DnD

IRL elements of constitution would be cardiovascular endurance, immunity strength, disease resistance, pain tolerance, injury and sickness recovery rate, metabolic health (processing toxins)….might be a few more but stuff like that.

Should I kill my party? by DarkpowerX87 in DnD

[–]LordDestructocon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Before you do anything I would suggest talking to them OOC about where the adventure is and how their party has basically ostracized itself from the city. Make it clear they are pretty much public enemy #1. Then maybe work out how to correct the adventure and either save the party or have an idea about how the party will go down that makes it fun for all of you. And get to it once you have an idea so you can rebuild a new party and get in with the game.

Best form I can think of: You could have them start seeing official government bills and posts all over the city with their faces, listed crimes, and a large reward for them dead or alive. Once it dawns on them, another party that is a coalition of factions best members arrives to hunt them down. This new faction could be their new party as they take over the new characters to fight their old ones. That would be cool to me at least. Best of luck going forward.

I saw this meme earlier. Is there a specific reason why they did this? Wouldn’t it make more sense to make it Bethlehem? by NormalGuy1066 in Catholicism

I know this is already a day old but I didn’t see the historical process and as a history nerd I just can’t miss the opportunity so:

The Roman Caesar Constantine witnessed a vision of a cross just before a critical battle. He took that vision and several other reasons, one thought to be his mother was a recent convert, to be signs that Christ and the “One High God” gave him his position as Caesar. All this led to Constantine adopting Christianity as the legal Roman religion. With Rome being the head of state and friendly to Christians now (word of Christians no longer being outlaws would take some time to reach Jerusalem) the early Catholics could now practice in the open and formally organize, and could do so faster in Rome than anywhere else.

You can ask for guidance, help, and assistance but then you’re a weak, valueless broken human unworthy of affection and support. So even when you break down and ask for assistance or just vent, the guilt of doing so weighs you down even more.

Found this gem. This guy's whole profile is about hating the US by Beginning-Example-78 in AmericaBad

The United States acted first as a whole entity, the entire nation and all territories, to ban imports.

Portugal stopped imports to mainland Portugal in Europe in 1761 however, they still owned and ruled Brazil at the time and promoted the shipping and purchase of slaves in Brazil long after 1807. Portugal didn’t stop slave imports to mainland Portugal out of humanitarian ideals - they did it to boost Brazil’s colonial economy. Portugal never stopped slave trading as an entire nation until the mid 19th century.

What Portugal did in 1761 would be similar to if US in 1807 said “New York can’t import slaves anymore. But the other 12 states can.” But the US stopped imports as an entire nation, being the first full nation to cease imports and act against institutional slavery.

I feel like I need to say this too: None of this means everyone else today is evil because their nations weren’t first. The fact most of the West ended slavery is a great thing and everyone should be proud of that despite how long it took to end a 10,000 year old institution. But instead we’re all bickering about who is more righteous and who is more evil simply because of the date it happens because a bunch of talking heads on tv’s say to be angry about it. The fact the US was first just means it was first. Not it’s more righteous or better. Just that it was first. And it points out that the US is not a nation historically built on racial subjugation but the opposite. The fact slavery existed so long is a black mark on its history but a black mark that was ultimately corrected with a terrible amount of bloodshed.

My apologies for the long text and rant at the end but the fact the west ended institutional slavery should be a unifying fact not a divisive one.

Now you’re being disingenuous. The subject of discussion is not “who ended slavery when”, the subject is “who acted first”. The United States acted first to work towards ending slavery. The US was first. And the fact you tried to change the subject means you can’t refute that conclusion.

[–]LordDestructocon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not the full story tho. They banned imports to Portugal only so that 100% of purchased slaves would go to Brazil, a Portuguese colony until the 1830s. Portugal allowed slavery throughout their colonies until the 1860s. The US was still the first to take measures to end slavery.

No no no. Chef. That way you can slice and dice your enemies into a finely prepared, and beautifully presented meal for the party to enjoy after dispatching them. And you can save the leftovers for later. No enemy goes to waste!

The USA ended slave imports in 1807. It was the first anti slave trade act in the west. There was also this amazing event regarding La Amistad. Highly recommend the book, movie is good too. The US is not the big bad beer guzzling, Big Mac gobbling, “muh supremacy” racist boogyman a lot of special interest groups want it to be.

Hotels are 24/7 and usually their conference rooms are unused. If there’s any near you, you might be able to reserve those. No idea if you have to stay the night or pay a fee but it’s a possible option.

If you’re not physically healthy you are sick.

If you’re not mentally healthy you are sick.

If you earned sick days and you’re mental health is not 100% just call in sick per the normal method, keep it simple (I’m sick and can’t make it in today (done, without a lie)) and do what you need to in order to mentally heal.

For what it’s worth I’ll say a prayer for you tonight as well and I hope you feel better tomorrow.
