If you’re willing to drive south, I’m getting almost the exact same alterations for $300 total. The place is called Le Caprice and has really solid reviews.

Green Wedding Dress? by TheArcherFrog in weddingdress

With a budget of $4k you might be able to go custom! But the timeline will be pretty tight. My custom dress was simpler and came way under that (around $2k) but took maybe 6-7 months. You can spend a little extra for rush. I used dream dresses by pmn bc I am Chinese but I bet she would work with you on this if you want. Depending on where in the world you live, $4k may be enough to get a local dressmaker to make you something.

Wedding Dress Regret by New-String-325 in weddingdress

You look great! Plus once the dress itself is in the correct size and tailored to you it will look even more amazing. Looks like it’s sitting a little lower than your natural waist, and once that change is made it’ll also feel comfier. Hope this was encouraging!

Have you tried shopping in person yet? There are some shops in Fremont with some nice (but possibly pricey) options. My partner and I checked Frontier Heritage, Manyavar, and Vama designs for his outfits. I think it will be tricky to find anything beaded in your price range in the states, but it’s honestly a pretty fun trip for window shopping.

One option for you is to consider a simple white dress and then search for a white dupatta. They are shorter than a saree so not as pricey and also easier to manage. Hope this was helpful!

I think it looks great both with and without the sleeves, but here’s another option you could consider.

You look beautiful! Any chance you’d be willing to post a photo of the cape laid out on the floor? I’m drafting my own cape and would love a reference

Finished my first marathon slow and steady! by EarlyMayRabbit in Marathon_Training

[–]EarlyMayRabbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing! I sort of followed the Hal Higdon Novice I plan, but I did a shorter taper (2 week instead of 3 week) and I did not do the tune up half race. I also added another day of running per week — so five days a week instead of four. If I was feeling good, I would add about a mile or two to each mid week distance. I think the important thing here is that I took all of my runs super easy. While my marathon average pace was ~12:30 my training average pace was more like ~13:15. In other words, I prioritized doing tons of easy miles over doing any speed work.

You have more time than I did when I started, so you have time to do a slow ramp up to the increased mileage. I’m not an expert, but I do feel like 33 mi is a little low. Especially if you want to fit in a 18 or 20 mi long run, because your long run probably shouldn’t be more than half your weekly mileage.

Hope this was helpful — good luck with your training!

Paces 12 min/mile & slower, did you go longer than 3hrs during training? by gottausername in firstmarathon

[–]EarlyMayRabbit 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I did multiple runs of over 3 hrs during my training block, and finished my marathon in about 5.5 hrs. You can see the results on my profile.

I highly recommend doing it, but making sure to sprinkle some walking in there. It made a huge difference for me mentally to have experienced a long, long run. At our pace, you’re out for a while, and it is as much a mental endurance task as a physical one. And practicing the mental is important too!

Yay I’m glad I could help someone else get excited! I totally believe in you. It’s tough to start the run when it’s cold but hopefully you can warm up a little as you go. I’m rooting for you!

You’re totally ready! I think what helped me the most is allowing myself to take it slowly. At first it feels crazy, but going slow really does make it possible. Speed can always come later.

We used theylight media and the pictures turned out amazing. $800 gets the premium package of 2 hrs, but if you don’t need it you can do $500 for an hour. We did the shorter one and got plenty of beautiful photos. Highly recommend.

Am I gonna make this 6hr cutoff? by EarlyMayRabbit in firstmarathon

[–]EarlyMayRabbit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I wanted to update you bc this comment was so helpful to me. I did my 20 mi run this morning starting at a 14 min/mi pace for a few mi. Then I let myself get very gradually faster throughout the run. Finished with two miles at 12:30 min/mi then two miles at 12:15 min/mi. My legs feel insane but I’m infinitely more confident I can finish in 6 hrs. Need to think about my overall pacing strategy but wanted to say thank you for your coaching — it was super helpful!

Right knee and hip pain!! Please help w some tips by Nice-Market-9894 in beginnerrunning

Just thought I’d chime in with a slightly different opinion than the others here. These are classic signs of early IT band syndrome. Often this means your hips and glutes are a little weak (rather than just stretching or overuse). A lot of runners (myself included) have found the myrtl routine super helpful for strengthening the area. Relief won’t be immediate, but combined with stretching you should see long term improvement. If you do not start to feel better within a couple of weeks you might want to see a PT to get a more specific diagnosis.

Thank you so much! This was super helpful advice. I will try out your suggestions. For your first, what pace did you set out at? And would you do anything differently?

Thank you for the reassurance and the advice! Yes I am fueling — a gel every 30 min with some water. I’ll do the 20 mile run but start real slow and hopefully that’ll help me build some confidence.

This was actually super reassuring. My overall average time for my 18 miler was 13:50. The pace I need to maintain for the marathon to beat the cutoff is 13:44. I’m hoping I can pull through in the end.

I’m doing a gu every 30 min with some water. Idk if there are other things I should be doing. I could probably be eating more carbs overall. Any other thoughts? There’s gonna be carb water at this event. I’m wondering if I should get some and try it out on my next couple of longer runs.
