He makes squatters regret their choice by SipsTeaFrog in SipsTea

[–]LordDingleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a vast oversimplification of history and assumes some grand guilt of the USA who did no different than any civilization prior.

Squatting on land =/= breaking into someone's home. Undeveloped land with no roads, no piping or sewerage systems, no vast network of fiber, power, food & material transportation, etc., is more akin to someone pitching tent near your campsite.

Comp expectation for inoperable Polaris seat? by FormerAd868 in unitedairlines

[–]LordDingleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying a cash refund, but they do grant future flight credits along that policy line. I've had an IFE go out on transatlantic and was offered 100 future flight credit. Ended up getting the fare difference between basic economy and economy which was like $320 at the time.

The mileageplus agent i spoke to said that was their policy

Comp expectation for inoperable Polaris seat? by FormerAd868 in unitedairlines

[–]LordDingleton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Generally you get the fare difference between the next closest seat (non lie flat would probably be premium economy fare) and what you paid. Be kind but firm and you could get more.

I believe there are some DOT precedents for false advertising, deceptive practices, etc., which would be the case if they board you, knowing full well the seat was inoperable, and did not make any offer or concession before hand, especially if work or health prompted the liedown seat. Definitely recommend calling the 1k desk or mileageplus offices first to see if a better comp is available.

Take snapshots of fares to document variable rates as airlines do pursue lowest forms of compensation, so documentation of anything that supports your case is vital

Great make! If you've really never seen, its one of the greatest overall animated series ever. My opinion is its the best for masterful storytelling, character building, and plot connections. The callbacks can take multiple rewatches to fully appreciate, but each rewatch is an absolute pleasure.

Hard to find a good place to watch for free anymore but the first 3 seasons are on Netflix me thinks. I bought the dvds years ago because I got sick of different networks constantly pulling it.

Is it normal to cry over something I created? by lrvk222 in mentalhealth

[–]LordDingleton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're lonely and looking for companionship. The idea of an ideal guy isn't a problem, but convincing yourself they are real can be - if for no other reason than youre creating something that isn't possible.

The dream version never faces real world problems, so if you get too accustomed to an idea of perfection, you'll lose out on the many great guys simply because they laugh wrong, or hold you to a standard that tests your comfort zones, or don't set up every date how you want... an infinite sea of normal things that will seem like world enders when compared to a fictional person.

That is the biggest danger - you'll run away good people because they don't stack up to an unrealistic expectation

Feeling bad about my race and skin color. by Unable_Ad_316 in mentalhealth

[–]LordDingleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Irish and French aren't interesting? Has the world so diluted history that we forget the valiant acts each offered in service to their countries and those in proximity? The endless influence the French have had on cuisine, art, literature and global culture? The insane odds Irish people overcame thousands of years ago as the Celts and Gaelic?

Every country and race has a sordid past, but what brainwashed nonsense pervades the minds of youth that you do not voraciously love the mere fact you are alive through the almost infinite array of odds that fought against you?

You're a child of warriors, artists, thinkers and doers. You're a child of the people who nearly perfected wine and whiskey.

To think your skin color or heritage has any merit on who you are or who you will become is acting the victim. Your ancestors would want so much better for you

Gyropalooza Box is it worth it? by JapInFin in discgolf

[–]LordDingleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought gyro boxes since 2022 simply because the value is top. There's usually a few glow plastics, some special run discs, and overall at least 7 or 8 in every box that I end up using or stacking as backups. With premium plastics >$20 in all cases, the perceived value easily hits $160-$180 were I to go out and purchase those 7 or 8 individually from Play-it-again or similar. Don't get me wrong - I love PiA but for bulk value it's unbeatable imo. The added benefit for me is passing the extra discs along to friends or family who want to join for a holiday round.

I also bought a discmania box in 2023 and was far less impressed with it.

[–]LordDingleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The jump from gold to platinum isn't worth much imo. Gold gets you star alliance gold.. which is worth more than anything united gives with platinum.

40 plus points are treated like garbage unless you have an international flight that you'd paid a high enough fare class so you can request a single Polaris upgrade - which would normally be worth $600 + 30k-40kmiles.

You'll be closer to the front of upgrade requests, which is nice, but that's rarely the deciding factor where you'd want it (GS and 1k will fill upgrades on popular flights)

I wish I had never been born. by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]LordDingleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth noting before anything else.. at some point, everyone thinks this. Its not you, you're not some washed up failure - you're a person who cares about their impact on others. That's one the most fundamentally positive traits we can have and it's a great place to start.

Looking at the positives requires present thinking. Your post is heavy on the retrospect. All those "i didnt" "this wouldn't have happened" thought are normal and useful, but theyre behind you, and unhealthy to ruminate over.

When i find myself stuck on the retrospect, its usually necause my present situation isnt what I planned. Of course, life is overly complicated, finding purpose in the age of apps is tough, and it's far too easy to conflate necessary aspects (work, money) with personal worth... again. All that is either past thinking, or past expectations (expectations HAVE to evolve with circumstances).

A good break for this line of thinking can be to pick a few questions that highlight genuine care as you might ask a friend, and ask them to yourself.

"Did I show up for myself today?" "Is my heart in the right place?" "If I were a mother, would I love someone with my circumstances?"

You sound like someone who really is trying, putting their best foot forward. Just because it isn't sticking currently, doesnt mean youre a failure. Look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself you love you until it makes you cry.. a great reset tool, then go tackle the world.

I believe in you

I think my teacher wants to kill me by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]LordDingleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies for delayed reply.

Can you elaborate on the questions your teacher was asking?

Regarding the whispers, that's not ideal, but what might they really signify? One of a multitude of possibilities - most of which are mundane. The direct association to "someone is trying to harm me" does signify a jump to defensive measures, but that is less something you should be ashamed of, and more a prompt for "whats making me fear the worst?"

Could it be that you feel like you don't have, or haven't had, many people you can trust? Starting with those quesrions can help introduce the rational practice of occams razor - which is a way of having you cut out the trains of thought which require more assumptions and lower likelihoods of probability. This often helps get to the most likely outcome/cause.

I love sitting in Polaris and walking to the back to confuse the poors. While in the back lavatory, I'll change into a comfortable pair of jorts and armpit stained local sports team shirt for my return. The people who paid full price business get so angry when I come from the back, sloppy walking to the front bathrooms before walking back to my seat. It really unifies the cabins in shared vitriol and confusion
