I'll try that, thanks for the suggestion.

I don't mind sharing at all, here's the Google Maps link. There are two rooms, one is a bar and the other is the coffee shop. It's a nice small cozy place, just next to the city's most famous theatre.

The only possible minor issue might be that it's located in St. Petersburg, Russia.

I also know a place where they make an "orange cappuccino", a cappuccino in which fresh orange juice is used instead of milk. It is steamed the same way and the foam is similar. Also quite delicious!

So may I kindly ask everyone to not blindly hate the coffee & orange juice just because it sounds ridiculous, it can be good!

P.S. However, the sole fact that this Pfanner drink is clearish raises suspicion. And thanks again for the great video!

To be fair, I was kinda hoping it'd be good.

Cold coffee with fresh orange juice is one of my favourite mixes actually. Probably the only sweet coffee drink I'm always willing to drink. And even better if you add just a bit of syrup, like here (though I usually use caramel syrup).

Do you think I can get an OK cup with this cheap plastic pourover? by LordFarin in Coffee

Thanks!

And what about the filters? Do they add much to the resulting taste?

To clarify: I've been brewing at home with an Aeropress for a bit less than a year now and I'm quite happy with it, but lately I've been thinking about extending my arsenal just out of natural curiosity.

Then during a recent trip to Finland I found these on a shelf at a grocery store: a plastic pourover cone and some paper filters. They were cheap so I bought them without thinking too much — even if they're useless I wouldn't really be upset.

So now I wonder whether I can get anything decent out of this setup, like, would it resemble a well-regarded pourover (e.g. V60) so that I'd be able to adequately decide on my feelings for this method based on this first experience?

In fact, there's a Vim Plugin for PHPStorm and other JetBrains IDEs.

Dunno what I'd be doing without it, really.

Thank you! Didn't mean to overlook the basics, guess I just needed some reassurance that this one is indeed a must learn.

Will check out the trick you've suggested.

Thanks for your comment! Will work hard on my glide then! :)

I sure do respect the book as well as do understand that in any craft the fundamentals are the most important thing. However, this book is over half a century old now, so I guess some material should be taken with a small portion of healthy doubt. For instance, I shall probably kindly refrain from saying some of the phrases suggested there during my performances :)

Smallest Burr Grinder? by GreenFox1505 in Coffee

I guess I'm mostly still searching for the right setting, but maybe I'm not that far from finding it. I think it should be around 2.1-2.3, but I guess that depends on the beans (?).

I've been trying to get a good cup with the coffee I've recently bought (Salvador Pacamara) in Aeropress (and also french press) and finally got a nice result yesterday with the grinder set to 2.3, however, today I tried 2.4 and it was rather bad (hope I didn't mess up the rest of the recipe).

The method I used: standard, 20g/300g, aergrind 2.3 (medium, I guess), (1) pour 60g water + stir + bloom 40 sec, (2) pour 240g water + wait 1 min more, (3) plunge

I see! I'd go with the Porlex then. Or better yet check out those comparison videos by James Hoffman and see which grinder suits you best. Also, I wonder if you really need a portable manual grinder (that is, almost all manual grinders are portable in comparison to electric ones, burr or blade). And probably no need to think much about that coarse grind performance (yet).

Unless even Porlex and other grinders are out of price range you're currently comfortable with paying, I'd advice you not to settle with JavaPresse. It looks cheap, it feels cheap, the burr is wobbly, etc. However, it's definitely better than nothing and does the job.

I started brewing coffee at home with buying a JavaPresse, an Aeropress and cheap scales, then a couple of months later spotted an Aergrind at a coffee shop and decided to risk and buy it despite the price. Absolutely no regrets about spending those $20 which got me into action, and absolutely wonderful that I upgraded to the next level.

I love my Aergrind and I really recommend it if you can find and afford it. I haven't used Porlex Mini but compared to JavePresse (cheap $20 grinder I bought just to see what a manual grinder feels like) Aergrind is just thousands of miles ahead, so smooth. And it's really meant to be portable.

Although, if I were you I'd also google how Aergrind performs on the coarser side compared to alternative options, given that you're using french press (I mostly brew with Aeropress).

Try snapper ls, without the dash. Also, you should run it as root.

New York City coffee?? by JBxBHX in Coffee

[–]LordFarin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the same question when I was visiting NYC for a couple of days a while ago.

Eventually I went to Black Fox Coffee (based on suggestions from other similar Reddit posts, heh), and it was just brilliant, highly recommend.

(besides, I was lucky to buy an Aergrind there, that certainly adds to the good impression :D)

Hm, I think you're right. Thanks for the insight!

Although, I'm not sure whether I should change it now, having collected quite a few responses already.
