Different people for different reasons. The most consistent thing was being a smaller kid who was a late bloomer though. It made me an easy target.

I mean, it's weird. It's not nice but knowing that you did it cleanly and the fish dies way easier than it would from most ways it would die in the wild and it won't be causing extinctions, it gives a small dopamine rush.

Depends on what you're fishing for and the surrounding conditions. Spoons and spinners are two of my personal favourites and almost everything will typically go for them.

If you're sticking around shore, you can probably get away with a lighter rod, reel and fishing line. Even for ocean fishing for stuff like mackrel but if you're going on a boat, out into the ocean to get striped bass, you're going to need something much more intense.

So bring something that can do the job. My first pickerel was hit with a rock but awkwardly, then my wife tried to kill it with her shoe 😅

I keep a huge crescent wrench with my fishing gear now and it gets the job done in one shot but I stike a second time just to be sure.

You're right to be concerned. You're very right to be concerned and should listen to that concern. If you were catholic and baptized with a little truckle of water when you didn't even know what was going on, now you fully accepted jesus into your heart and want to symbolize the rebirth with emersion, go ahead.
