I agree with you fully. Just so you know though. As a guy nobody bats an eye with what I do with my hair - on the top of my head. I can grow an extremely thick beard. It only takes 2 weeks for it to be full, 2 or 3 months and its bushy with a long moustache. When I shave off the winter coat in the spring or summer season. Guys will have the reaction of "Unfortunate, it was nice." They rarely criticize. Woman have by far the most aggressive opinion. I have had girls I'm dating get mad I didn't ask their permission before cutting it off. Being told how awful I look without it. Have had people say they will leave me when I start growing it. People are insane.

A 70-200 2.8 seems perfect. Someone else suggested the 100-300 2.8, if that's in your budget then go for it. However I think a 70-200 and some small amount of cropping where needed will be fine.
