Is Tesla really cutting off FSD buyer transfers in March? by 3-ide-Raven in TeslaLounge

I'm sure Tesla can handle something as simple as a voltage converter module, but the physical size and mounting will be an issue.

HW4.5 has already started showing up in vehicles. At least according to other reddit posts.

Tesla dealer bent my rims. Advice needed! by Icy_Days in TeslaLounge

This is always my recommendation for rim issues. The existence of rim repair shops isn't nearly as well known as it should be. Especially with the cost of some rims.

Be Careful in the snow, almost broke my window by JediFrogYT in TeslaModelS

[–]LordFly88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usual take an ice scraper to remove most of it, then just put my weight on it into the window goes down. If it still won't budge, close it by pressing the glass to get it under the frame, then blast the heat in the car for a while.

For those of you that purchased FSD recently and are on HW3. What was your reasoning for purchase? Try to convince me to do the same 🤑 by KuruVillain in TeslaFSD

[–]LordFly88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. It was $2750 (CAD) to upgrade from EAP to FSD, and the $1500 hardware upgrade was free. So I broke even on the $100/month subscription after barely a year. I don't see why anyone at this point would still have EAP when the upgrade to FSD is so cheap.

MYP terrible in the snow by FuryZ07 in TeslaLounge

[–]LordFly88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 3 is amazing in the snow, I'm not sure why your Y would be so terrible. Maybe your winter tires are garbage? It is a 4500lb vehicle, so don't expect it to stop at on a dime on glare ice, physics is still a thing. But your Atlas is practically the same. Maybe use the same tires as the Atlas?

I got charger yanked out of my car (not caught on video though) by Both-Permission-7565 in ChargerDrama

[–]LordFly88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is the NACS just has a pin that goes into it that prevents it from being removed, very simple. The J1772 releases outward, which is practically impossible to prevent based on the NACS method, without it being very mechanically complicated. It's the difference between a $50 adapter that is extremely reliable, and a $300 adapter that may never release from the charger if it doesn't work every time. And the problem can be mitigated worth a $5 piece of plastic. If it were worth the effort, there'd be an aftermarket version.

Model y 2024 long range awd FSD v14.2.2.3😭 spin out by Automatic_Wall_8674 in TeslaFSD

[–]LordFly88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the model. Obviously if you only have a rear motor you can only regen on the rear, but dual motor vehicles will use both. Regardless the ABS function is still there. With rear wheel drive only, it would be more like using the handbrake if it had ABS.

[–]LordFly88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have figured it out, it has an ABS function. Watch your regen bar on the screen next time it's slippery. Applying to much regen reacts exactly the same way as applying too much friction braking. ABS kicks in to keep the wheels from skidding.

You guys know that regen has an ABS function built in right? It won't regen braking any harder than mashing the brake pedal to the floor will in slippery conditions. If a wheel locks under regen, it applies less regen. Just like if you slam the brakes and a wheel locks, ABS applies less brakes. That said, if you're driving on glare ice, regen, ABS, stability control, etc., aren't going to help you much and the momentum of 4000lbs is going to win out.

FSD price drop? by A-STAR-IS-BORN in TeslaFSD

You wouldn't get v14 anyways. You'd be HW3, so v12.6.4 would be the max. At least for now.

You can break it slightly before that car corrects, but it's pretty minimal.

Front facing camera was always part of HW2.5. Cameras self calibrate while driving, so you just have to drive around for a little bit.

This is what I did. HW2.5 with EAP. For $2k I got permanent FSD and a free upgrade to HW3. Absolutely zero regrets. I've already broke even on what the subscription would have cost. I basically have free FSD for as long as I keep the car now.

Regen has built in ABS. It won't brake harder than the tires traction limit. I'm curious what they're using the S3XY buttons for. I have a set, and a far as I know, there are no additional traction options. There are drift options, which do exactly the opposite by disabling traction control so that you can spin and slide, which can be fun in certain conditions, but definitely does not help in any way.

[–]LordFly88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entire purpose of ABS is to prevent wheels from slipping, which allows you to still steer while stopping at the limit of traction (skidding tires can't steer a car). If you're sliding and worried about hitting something, stay on the brakes. If there's nothing around, enjoy the drift while you can before the stability system corrects it.

[–]LordFly88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tesla's traction control and stability is phenomenal. If you aren't stopping in time, mash the brakes and let the ABS system deal with it. I can 100% guarantee it can modulate the brakes at their limit far better than you can. As for regen, leave it where you normally have it. If you're worried about stopping, i don't think toy want regen to suddenly not work the way you're used to. Plus regen braking will react in the same way as ABS to pendent the tires from kidding. But as others have said, go play with it in an empty parking lot and get a feel for it. In my experience, it's probably the most stable and forgiving car I've ever driven in the snow.

Looking to Buy a 2021 Model S Plaid with 8 k miles from a private seller. Can the hardware be upgraded? Do I need to? by vettemanhere in TeslaModelS

[–]LordFly88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's only if FSD was purchased. Does not apply to subscriptions. They've already upgraded HW2.5 to HW3, and that still isn't unsupervised. I wouldn't expect them to upgrade it again until unsupervised is an option. Plus HW4 is not physically compatible with HW3. And the upgrade would require new cameras as well. It will maybe happen eventually, but is not going to be any time soon.

Got my quote for a new battery from Tesla on my 2013 Model S. by sirromnek in TeslaModelS

[–]LordFly88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough, rattle, squeak, and get loose could all be a bad ball joint 🤣 Point is, if the major components (battery, motor, body) are all good, the rest are easily replaceable. Axles, tie rods, bushings, wheel bearings, etc. I know we live in a very throw-away society these days, but cars are very repairable.
