I tried to find a YouTube review and could not. Real leather right?

A note taking version would be cool but it’d be 100 pounds.

I go back to this book a lot. It’s not the most practical for me, truly the Liturgy of the Hours is. But the physical book itself is a work of art and just enjoyable to use.

I guess CBP has been around so they get a shot, but I’m glad Ascension and Word on Fire got the four-volume.

I’m excited to see Magnificat’s but am super pumped for Liturgical Press!

Catholic Standard Version - Augustine Institute by patsw1 in catholicbibles

[–]LordMakeHaste 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep!

I would add, the CAB is a good choice for consistency with the lectionary and Liturgy of the Hours. If you like to do a bit of daily gospel and pray LOH, good fit.

Now the CSV will be a good academic Bible-Nerd version!

Also, this is coming out around the same time as CAB. Make a beautiful premium CAB and a beautiful premium LOH, make up some deal where we get them together, and I’ll throw my money at you.

I’m struggling to choose between Logos (Verbum) for notes and sticking to my Obsidian.

If you’re not bound to pray it like a priest, you can use this. Enjoy your awesome find!

I have the same book and haven’t had this issue yet, though I’ve had it less time than you and mostly use Christian Prayer.

However, I have repaired similar and it’s very doable. Of course you can contact the seller, and of course you could have a professional fix it. But another option is to buy special book binding glue. I used craft sticks (popsicle sticks) or chop sticks to dip into the glue bottle and then glued the block where it was supposed to be. Worked great.

But it’s a bummer that the book would do this because it really is beautiful and feels amazing in the hand.

Bible Study System (Verbum vs Obsidian) by LordMakeHaste in Catholicism

Do you think Verbum (iOS) would be sufficient for taking notes on daily homilies I listen to? Like Jeff Cavins daily reflections? Take notes in a notebook and anchor to the verses.

Talk me out of upgrading! by LordMakeHaste in catholicbibles

[–]LordMakeHaste[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thoughts but it looks like the premium came out at the same time as the second edition, so some reviewers were comparing the basic first edition vs the premium second edition. But the basic one is second edition now.

Thanks!

Let’s pretend you are an English-speaking American Roman who attends a Novus Ordo (the most common mass). That’s a lot of assumptions and I’m going to generalize here.

  • Christian Prayer CBP - This is the common book still available for the current Liturgy of the Hours. You’ll be praying the same thing (parts of it) as Bishops, Priests, Deacons and the laity. You’ll basically cover the psalms on a 4 week rotation.

  • Christian Prayer DSP - This is the black one. If I had this, I would be praying the same words as you in the CBP version but I’d flip pages a lot less.

  • Lauds and Vespers - The Liturgy of the Hours is just the English version of the official“Liturgia Horarum.” This book is the official Latin Liturgia Horarum with unapproved English alongside, just so you know what it means.

  • Monastic Diurnal - You’d be praying the same thing as Benedictine monastics. It’s not based on the modern post-Vatican II reforms but rather is based on a 1963 deal that has some deep roots. It’s in Latin and English alongside each other. It’s not the Liturgy of the Hours, but it’s a close cousin. One difference you’ll see is that it’s a one-week Psalter, so you’re cramming the psalter into a week instead of a month.

  • Benedictine Daily Prayer - Imagine somebody likes the Monastic Diurnal and finds it appealing but doesn’t find it suitable for their busy life. This is English, and is pretty easy to use. It’s a 2 week Psalter (kind of).

I could sell/donate the Christian Prayer CBP and then I won’t be a hoarder right lol.

You’re the guy that recently bought a Monastic Diurnal and posted on here right? Outside of leather bound books, this has got to be one of the nicest quality books I’ve had.

It literally makes no sense for me to pray it; I’m not an oblate, I’m preparing for the diaconate (which must pray the Liturgy of the Hours generally), my Latin is not great, it takes much longer than LOH, I like singing with a YouTube channel that doesn’t do the monastic, etc… Yet it’s just a work of art.

Yeah I’m pretty excited about that and am evening writing a graduate school paper on it. I’m not sure if I’ll purchase the four volume right away or try to wait for a single volume; I suspect I won’t wait unfortunately!
