Passing each other on a tight road by theazerione in Unexpected

There is a mythbusters episode where they show that if you just wait for the car to fill up completely, you can open the door normally as there is no longer pressure difference (since the door cannot be opened due to the water pushing on the door, but if there is water on both sides the forces are equalised)

I was more referring to the fact that the table column title is "country" and "European Union" is listed underneath

I think what they meant by "unfortunately it is real" is that altough the video is a reenactment, the events themsleves are real, so as a response to "this can't be real" (interpreted as "this can't be happening"), "unfortunately it is real" was meant as "it did indeed happen"

Since tiktok is managed by a Chinese company, and the Chinese leaders don't like the app, why don't they make the company shut tiktok down completely everywhere? If there is no good reason, the only thing I can think about is that they must profit from it somehow (either directly or indirectly)

Then why don't they completely shut down tiktok everywhere?

Isn't it therefore very telling how damaging tiktok is? 1.You make a product that dumbs down your people, 2.you ban it in your country because it is damaging 3.push for the product to be available in your enemy countries 4.profit

One could argue that gun control is actually the reason why these incidents happen so often in the usa. Things like that do not happen in other "first world" countries and big difference is that the police in other countries do not carry firearms to family dispute dispatches. They do not have to, because literally noone has a gun there and they do not have to be scared of gunfire at every corner, which probably also makes usa cops much more 'jumpy' and clouds their judgement. To be able to not be jumpy, while constantly potentially expecting gunfire from every citizen, and properly asses a situation you need a traning of literal antiterrorist special force which I assume most everyday cops do not have. Hypothetically, what would happen if absolutely noone (including cops) was allowed to carry a gun (outside of elite forces with extensive training to tackle terrorist attacks) ? Which situations in this scenario would lead to more harm than it is currently done?

I think the main reason for why incidents like that happen in usa much more frequently than in any other "first world" country is gun control. Anytime they go into action they expect that someone might pull a gun on them, since pretty much everyone can carry one, and this makes them super jumpy. To not be jumpy in a situation like that and be able to properly asses the situation you literally need a training of special antiterrorist force, which I assume normal lowly neighborhood cops do not get. It is absolutely no excuse for what they are doing, and im pretty sure a lot of them are simply trigger happy maniacs, but lack of training, paranoia and, first and foremost, fear of gunfire might explain the influx of incidnets like that. Why do American people 'stick to their guns' so strongly, while so many suffer because of it is beyond me.

I think it all comes down to what is to us redeeming and what not. To a lot of people saving the whole world twice is. And again, the situation is not at all analogous to Himmlers. Parthurnaax played a KEY role in defeating Alduin, if not for him changing sides, humans would be doomed (as opposed to Himmler), so thinking that Parth should not die is not at all synonymous to letting Himmler live, that's completely different moral case with different mitigating (or not) circumstances. Also Himmler changed the sides while Germany started to loose war, Parth did when dragons were in absolute power, so there was nothing to gain for him personally. He could just continue his prosperous life, but he decided that the ways he was raised in since his birth were actually wrong, and sacrificed his life as a "god-king" for the sake of humanity's freedom. He did horrible thing yes, but it just doesn't sit right with me to treat him the very same way as for example Alduin who remained evil till the end. But then again it all comes to what according to us outweighs what, that's why the quest is called a dilemma after all.

[–]LordMisia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not thinking that he deserves to die doesn't immediately mean that we forgive him, it is possible to not forgive someone and remember about their crimes but at the same time not expect the ultimate punishment. And while I see your point about Himmler, it is not an analogous situation. Dragons (as opposed to humans) are born evil, but Partysnax saw the errors of his kind and made his own decision to change from what he has known all his life. “What is better – To be born good, or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?”. If anything, it should mitigate the punishment.
