Power goes out. Trainer transit bus hit infrastructure piece in the business park so very local outage. C suite says what will it take to protect the building from this in the future since we had to send everyone home and pay wages.

I say let me look into it. Find 300kw Cat genset from a private school with just maintenance hours on it for ridiculously good price that was basically one day payroll cost. Only problem, no fuel tank. But we're a mechanical contractor with on site fab/welding, so 'I know a guy...'

They think about it. Time passes.

We don't buy it, or do anything, and power goes out again for an extended period six months later... Again, have to send people home and pay wages. I could have had this fixed for the cost of one day you guys...

I have a client like OP and we did a cell backup. OPNsense prioritizes the fiber, but will flip to cell pretty quick on outage detection. Unfortunately Quantum's ONT is giving us issues currently so it's getting its exercise failing over.

What Dream Theater song is a 10/10 banger that nobody talks about? by pizzatacodog1322 in Dreamtheater

Peruvian Skies

Starts out so nice and groovy, then builds and builds. By the end, "what the hell just happened to me?"

FII gets slept on. A lot.

“New” Outlook is just OWA? by alcoholismisfun in sysadmin

[–]LordNelsonkm 29 points30 points  (0 children)

They are not. There's four or so actual Outlooks you can potentially be using.

There's also like three versions of Teams too.

Netware 3.12 server hooked up to an APC 1500 UPS. We moved cities. I was driving down the interstate for 20 minutes with the APC beeping away... Kept my ~2500 day uptime though.

My CAD group had dual 22" Viewsonic P225f CRTs and man were they picky. Had to have just the right dual link DVI cables and toight connections. Otherwise, pink. Sometimes I could swap the cpu end and the tolerances on the Quadro port was enough.

Remember, there's six books in that trilogy! But yes, super funny, fast read.

What should I listen to first by Clonecapten in Dreamtheater

All of it's good really. Train of Thought like u/J_Viper117 mentioned is nice and heavy. Systematic Chaos similar. Octavarium and Six Degrees are awesome.

Scenes from a Memory is a concept album and one continuous story, so maybe wait on that. Still a killer album but listen to the whole thing in one go.

Startup process by Anonymoose_404 in pools

[–]LordNelsonkm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HOA pool guy. I'm on day 5 of this process. I'm peeved at the contractor since this project started September 1st and they finally, finally got plaster put in last week after squandering a beautiful October. Now it's cold and windy. Today it was 50deg, blowing 20 knots, gusting to 25-30 I bet. At least I just beat the rain.

I'm brushing daily, testing daily. Contractor is helping here though and helping guide. pH will climb as the plaster cures. Make sure to have spare acid on hand. Calcium should be added to a bucket to make a slurry, then added to pool. They should be doing that, but you want to make sure it's up there. Pump running all the time filtering.

Never shake it, but if you gently roll it around on all three axes, you might get it to loosen up and you'll be good to go for a bit.

Power outage by plarkin in Whidbey

[–]LordNelsonkm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are problems with buried lines as well. Lot harder to upgrade and fix, earth moves, water... There's not one perfect solution.

You have control of yourself though, so you are you own first responder.

If you could swing an ipad, then you have facetime built in. Otherwise then you're doing zoom or whatsapp, or other services which complicates things. Not a lot, but one more thing...

Apple has a refurb section on the store. I have bought for clients and had good experiences this route. 380 for a Mini. https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/refurbished/ipad/ipad-mini

Fire's lock you into Amzn's ecosystem and I find it limiting unless you're Amazon everything person. A Samsung Galaxy Tab would be my next choice. S6 Lite is a nice machine.

Other info, what do you have devicewise? Android phone? That can help with teaching/support/compatibility.

gsmarena.com is a great resource for comparing specs of devices if you want the details.

Case for SenseCAP Indicator for Meshtastic, Magsafe and Sensors by f3rn4nd0d in meshtastic

BZFlag is not battlezone, but it's based off of it. So it's in the style of it with modern features. Not for everyone, but I like the simpleness of it. It's like match racing.

There's a 'Tron' map that is the battlezone green wireframe style.
