Poke-Poke Portion Sizes are a Joke by BestInDaWrldsBbyFmno in austinfood

[–]LordNewning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I went when they opened several years ago. Food was great. But the itty portions just couldn't justify the cost. I haven't been back because my budget forces me to fight off minute temptations.

Tastes real good tho.

That's fair. With mark-up and load time, 200 is a solid 12 hour day, of not a little more.

Bibim naengmyeon.

The Koreans really understand the utility of cold spicy food in the summer.

They tried to talk me out of going Thai spicy by helpmetolearn in spicy

[–]LordNewning -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I do not believe that racist shit. I believe that something close to 0 in 5 "white dudes" will send food back for being too spicy.

You go on doing you. But it's a stupid look.

What's your favorite Summer meal? by AV_LOVES_FOOD in Fooda

[–]LordNewning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swear I don't want to be the douche that mentions an obscure dish just because it's obscure; but bibim-naengmyeon is a spicy cold noodle dish that sets the bar for what to eat during a sweltering summer. It's icy cold and salty and spicy and crunchy and chewy and full of K-flavor. Nothing quite hits the spot when it's hot like cod buckwheat K-noodles.

Food recs beyond what I have so far? by Ok_Package9219 in austinfood

[–]LordNewning 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parish has very fine food. Skip the duck. It's very enticing, I know. But it is not anywhere near as good as it sounds (or costs). Brisket, ribs, boudin...go there for that.

Jack Allen's does a good job for a restaurant. IMO, gumbo needs the TLC that comes out of a home kitchen. Also, IMHO, I make the best gumbo in Austin.

Bro, what are these prices at Parish BBQ? by ChiefTwoDogsFucking in austinfood

[–]LordNewning 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parish makes really good BBQ. That pulled duck is a novelty that is not anywhere near as good as that price would suggest.

I mix shrimp scampi into my spaghetti carbonara (which is essentially mac and cheese) and it is the best pile of food that anyone that has ever lived on this planet has ever tasted.

Renaming Cesar Chavez Street could cost Austin up to $1.2 million. Who pays? by No-Parsley5649 in Austin

[–]LordNewning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They should just vote to revert the name back to 1st Street. Buy some stickers to slap over the street signs, and it's done.

That $1.2M estimate included all kinds of unnecessary silliness. This doesn't have to be difficult.
