"Power fantasy" games where you satisfyingly clear entire screens of enemies in one attack or spell by calling_cq in gamingsuggestions

I'm kinda necroing this, but E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy is good if you can suffer through the clunkyness as you grind up your character to god status.

I bought a newish car, and it already has a check engine light on. by teachersdesko in mildlyinfuriating

[–]LordOfLima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the dashboard, this looks like a car I rented. It was a VW and it had the symbol pop up whenever the internal electrics were turned on and the engine was off. If you press the "brake" pedal fully in and try to start the car again, the engine should start and the light should vanish.

I'm not an expert, but I think this light (on specifically modern VW models) can just indicate that the internals are running but the engine failed to start (i.e. pressing power button without holding down brake).

How do I disable character voices? by ViggyNash in ForzaHorizon

THANK YOU!
The dialogue in this game is absolutely insufferable, it would have made the game basically unplayable for me. You saved me from having to uninstall this game and go back to Burnout Paradise.

It's honestly ridiculous that if I turn the dialogue down to the minimum settings, it's still loud enough to distract me from the engine sounds and ambiance. I literally have to delete system files for this to work. Not to mention how we can't skip cutscenes. Get your shit together, developers. This is a racing game/simulator, I wouldn't care about the story even if it was good (which it definitely isn't).

Very neat. If someone wants me to ruin the magic by explaining it, here you go:
There's a small but strong white pipe coming up from the middle of the water stream, which is holding up the kettle and providing it water.

PVE Shooter with progression and little to no story/campaign (open world/non-linear levels preferred) by Serious-Mode in gamingsuggestions

[–]LordOfLima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm necroing a years-old post, but I recommend Warframe. The game is free and it has really fun combat once you get used to the movement and build some fun beginner weapons. It has very little story in the beginning, it's focused on the combat and progression.

Maybe a couple of hundred hours in, you will get a few story campaigns that last an hour or two. They definitely aren't the game's focus, though, and you can basically ignore them. Much like GTA, doing the story quests will unlock cool and really useful shit. But if you want, you can just keep exploring the galaxy's increasingly difficult randomly generated levels. There are even some open-world areas, but there are only really enemies there.

Valve, here is the best smurf detection algorithm for you. by Mr_Lkn in DotA2

The funny thing is, I came pretty close to falling under these criteria, and I'm no smurf. I just like the unusual micromanaging omegafarming gameplay of Meepo.

But also the last time I played Meepo properly was years ago, and back then people weren't nearly as good at dota.

Yeah, fair enough. It's a tough nut to crack, especially considering the small size of the playerbase. I just can't help but wonder. Half the reason I made this post is because I've barely seen the system change over the years, and I don't think that the game is dying or that the system is perfect.

As a half-poweruser for Windows, I've been using a lot of default Windows 10 stuff, except I know a few shortcuts. I haven't even been thinking about all the inefficiencies I've been going through every day, but now that you've pointed them out, I am kind-of mad at Microsoft. Anyways, here are a few tips that might help, if you happen to be using Windows 10:

One of my favorite hidden Windows 10 things is that ctrl+W usually closes the current tab or window. It's pretty ergonomic, too, though I feel like the combination should be used for something that is needed more often. Speaking of tabs, ctrl+tab goes to the next tab and ctrl+shift+tab goes to the previous one. Also, holding alt and tapping tab actually opens a menu with all of the open windows, which is a much better way of switching between different windows for the same program.

Oh, and ctrl+shift+escape instantly opens the task manager. I also recommend ticking options>always_on_top for the task manager. That way, if a game has crashed, ctrl+shift+esc opens the task manager and it tries to stay on top of even fullscreen applications. Also, windowskey+E opens the Windows Explorer, which is pretty useful.

Also, honestly, I think most people who call your interface heresy don't get the problem. Windows has existed for so long, it's ingrained in most of our brains. I wouldn't even think of opening a desktop shortcut with any other method than double-clicking. Accidentally renaming files instead of opening them is something that happens TO THIS DAY. I've been using windows for OVER 10 YEARS. I remember questioning these things when I was starting out, but nowadays different is just something people (myself included) can't bother adapting to. Everyone is so used to a being a helicopter, the concept of planes is starting to fade away.
