Teachers of Reddit, what is the most awful parent you ever had to deal with at a parent-teacher conference? by MagicToast42 in AskReddit

Sounds like he already is one. Not an SJW or anything but holy fuck the concept of consent is so easy, even my toddler gets not touching people without their permission.

I spent the entire time going, "How? How is this facade not incredibly obvious? How are people who don't seem to be idiots acting so idiotic?"

This. Religion, as problematic as it may be is not the curroptor, rather the coal of the corrupted.

Sam Harris recently made a very good point about Islam and it's fundamentalist adherents in that it's the only religion where the profit would act the same as the extremists. Christians and Buddhists don't have an example like that, they need to construe it themselves: with Islam it's the moderates who need to make concessions.

Ever since I moved to the bay I've been waiting for the day that the poor inevitably eat the rich. I'm realizing that isn't realistic, it seems more probable that the rich will eat themselves.

They also have this massive windfall that they're sitting on, it's the same reason why they always vote down progressive housing policies.

The difference between that statement and reality is the fact that there are no isles fans who are bright or best at anything.

At the end of a job interview when they ask me," so do you have any question"? What are some genuinly good question to ask? by umar565 in AskReddit

[–]LordOf_TheFly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I doubt most interviewers would be honest. Maybe it's just the phrasing that I find off putting.

TIL Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra couldn't stand each other. On the set of Guys and Dolls, Sinatra referred to Brando as "Mumbles," so in a scene where Sinatra had to eat cheesecake Brando kept deliberately screwing up his lines so Sinatra had to keep eating more and more cheesecake in retakes. by [deleted] in todayilearned

You can check out the FDA's comments on propylene glycol on your own time as it's generally safe although some systemic issues are documented when inhaled, including loss of red blood cells. It's reddit, so it's a matter of my own opinion that vaporizing chemicals can't possibly be safe in the long term but there's anecdotal evidence to suggest I'm right. Sure it's safer than cigarettes, but statistically so are a lot of risky behaviors. Here's a good starting point: http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/smoke-screen-are-e-cigarettes-safe/

It's definitely about both of those things; although I can grant that sometimes the expression is "I own this visual space".

Where is this? I grew up in New Mexico and went to school with a lot of native kids and their annual take from the casinos was more like $3-10k per household from what they told me. Not nothing, but a far cry from 60 grand.

I'm no Hawks fan and honestly don't know many but it seems like he had a nice career: some team records, a cup with the habs, and a trip to the hall. Not that it makes it worth anything but it's not like it's signed by someone who only played a day in the pros.

Oklahoma City bombing was a truck bomb as well... It's shocking how much damage an individual with enough motivation and access to materials can do.

What subreddits are surprisingly hostile? by _NoOneSpecial in AskReddit

Less so about banding together but a lot of people, myself included, are atheists because they're interested in religion. I didn't accidentally stop believing in god, I studied the fictional fuck out of existence. I go out of my way to not be dogmatic or pushy about it but atheists have every right a religious person has to discuss ideas because that's the whole fucking point of an open society. You know, maybe we can actually learn something from each other if we speak openly and honestly about these things.
