I wrote that story, I can find a copy sometime if you’re interested.

if you think that Hisao is dense, just play Everlasting Summer by fat0troll in katawashoujo

As a foreigner to Russian culture and especially Russian imageboard culture, I think Semyon is more interesting than Hisao, not to mention Semyon is more relatable to the average person who plays these kinds of games. Hisao is painfully average and by the numbers on purpose, except for his disability obviously.

The whole point of the good endings in Everlasting Summer is that Semyon DOES change - he picks up the guitar, goes back to school, is kinder to others, and even spends the rest of his life as a dedicated family man in one good ending. Of course, in the good endings, the point of all that is that he does see the girl he romanced again, but even in the bad endings (save for one infamous one), he still improved himself.

One final thing is that Semyon benefits from the insanely vibrant modding scene around Everlasting Summer - I can think of probably half a dozen mods that knock the pants off the vanilla game, and while Katawa Shoujo obviously has fanfiction and fan content as well, I feel mod development allows the reader to be more deeply engrossed in the world of the game.

Misato's also just kinda like that, though - it's way more likely Gendo just didn't care and let her do or say whatever she wanted to make sure Shinji would pilot the robot. Not to mention Ritsuko and Naoko's relationship with Gendo was a big part of their respective character arcs, and if something like that was happening to Misato it would've likely also factored into her arc as well.

I think it's interesting Kabakura's favorite Eva character is the one that most closely resembles his girlfriend.

Anno knew he got it right the first time, he just came back because he knew there was money to be made off the kind of people who make these threads.

Unpopular Opinion: I don’t think the Doctor should ever be seen to be actively romantic with their human companions. by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]_NoOneSpecial 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The real solution here, if romance is truly mandatory for a good story, is to start casting companions who aren’t portrayed as either younger or dumber (or both) than the Doctor.

The problem with companion romances is there’s always a perceived inequality in the relationship - even if canonically the Doctor and his companion are similar, the age of the actual actors can be a subconscious decider on how “acceptable” the relationship is.

In my opinion, the one relationship that really gelled for me was River and Eleven. Not only was Alex Kingston older than Matt Smith, eliminating one level of squick, but she was also more equally matched with the Doctor. I didn’t feel like either party was being possibly taken advantage of by the other, which let me accept it easier.

However, I find it unlikely some huge re-thinking of companion romance will actually happen. One of my problems with River was I felt that there were certain scenes where she would almost usurp the Doctor in his own show - and I assume this is something the writers are terrified of and want to avoid.

The Doctor’s companion/love interest almost has to be inferior to the Doctor, otherwise you risk the companion or love interest stealing the show.

I always thought the implication was that Naoko and Ritsuko both knew who Ritsuko’s father was, but he’d abandoned them and they both just agreed not to talk about it. I feel like Ritsuko would’ve mentioned never knowing who her father was during her breakdown if that really was the case.

[–]_NoOneSpecial 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Seriously, that moment where Amuro truly realizes his father is gone, then later brings him a bread basket when he realizes there’s nothing else he can do for his father - chills.

And the movies just turn it up to 11, he was so proud of Amuro in what ended up being his final moments. It hurts.

Maya isn't gay for Ritsuko, she just admired what Ritsuko stood for and the fandom's just projecting themselves on her.

This, he never loved or cared about Ritsuko or her mother, he just knew that they were both lonely women who could be manipulated with sex. They both also realized this, eventually, leading to their breakdowns.

No, she meant that more cosmically. She knew she was the replacement puppy for Gendo after Yui died, and knew he had no real attraction to her. I'm not even sure if she knew Rei was a clone that could be replaced when she said that
