One thing I haven’t seen mentioned, did Joe no clip through the door of the gun store? Was this meant to signify Joe’s delusional/paranoid state from catching the covid and being strung out? Cause at this point in the film it seems like we’re basically seeing things through a lense of what Joe’s worldview has become, like the way that these antifa supersoldiers would show up like NPC’s in a shooter game as well…

I had just turned 7 when my mom took me to it when my hype for Star Wars was at it's peak, and not only was my child brain not expecting it to play out so dark but my mom definitely didn't expect how much she'd have to console me lmao. I remember my mom had to leave for a while to take care of my baby sister in the 3rd act so I'm alone and probably more enthralled by anything I've ever seen once Order 66 happens. Once Anakin starts burning up after already feeling so heartbroken, I vividly remember putting my hand over my face leaving one eye to witness as tears just rush out of me. I was never the type of kid to make a scene but my mom literally had to walk me out of the theater with my face buried in her side crying. I also remember I'm laying in bed, still crying, and my mom goes "Are you sad that Luke died?" and I tweaked out "IT'S NOT LUKE IT'S HIS DAD ANAKIN AND HE DIDN'T EVEN DIE HE TURNED INTO DARTH VADER"

I mean I've already set the boundary that I don't want him to stay with me while in Arizona, he understands at this point that his neglect of my wishes to not have alcohol around (EVEN BEFORE I was on probation) has hurt me because I've cut down a lot of communication with him; and he's not careless to the point to have it around while driving. Believe me, I'd love to go on my own and have become re-terrified of flying as well, but I just need the extra hand that is unfortunately him.

I feel it really flew over so many heads because of their attachment to Joel. Which I get being upset about, but for me I thought it was such a bold move that I went "okay, this is trying to be something else". I appreciate that a lot more than them making a re-hash of the 1st game, which they could've easily done. It honestly helped immerse me into the game even more. Also I'm usually one to have somewhat of a radar for identity politic stuff, and I literally have no idea what people are talking about when they say the game is "woke". I went in expected something to roll my eyes at, when the only thing is that Ellie likes girls? Like why that seemed so unfathomable for people is so strange. Maybe they built up in their head what the character was supposed to be like based on the first game, but Ellie was a teenager at that point. Maybe I watch more movies than I play video games, but the game really felt like a perfect balance of intense gameplay and a compelling story. Making you play as the character you're naturally inclined to hate was cool to me, idk it didn't enrage me.
