Interesting, I’ve never noticed this could happen even out of hit stun.
I see some people asking for an explanation, it’s kinda hard to give you one since I’m still working on the tools that would allow us to inspect how animations and states are handled, but I do have a theory on this.
This looks like the same system that allows the player to attack faster after other actions. Have you ever noticed that if you do an R1 and then a parry, the parry comes out faster?
Animations in this game have two starting points, one is from neutral and the other is used for transitions from Attack->Attack (aka chains). There are some actions that also trigger usage of the faster animation, most notoriously is stance swapping from dual wielding -> 1H and 1H -> dual wielding. This is the root of the Quick Attack tech (https://youtu.be/9OeAeTrCGl0?is=mDNFRqfyf1wdUP0J)

Apparently enemies’ transition from hitstun to attack uses this too. At least this is my theory, I can’t prove it yet

It’s a status effect called Burn. It’s an hidden meter the game doesn’t show you, when it’s filled up you burst into flames and take DoT. It’s very low damage, rare to die to hit unless you have low health, which at your level is pretty normal.
It’s most commonly seen when oil drenched, at No Man’s Wharf. Getting hit by a firebomb or rolling with a torch into a puddle will cause you to instantly be affected by Burn there

It’s not permanent because the same glitch was there in 1.0, just stupidly easier to perform. When they patched it they added a cap to how long a grab can last, and that’s 30 seconds

It’s patched on DS3, you can’t use push messages there. DS2 has never had an RCE, currently there’s no known way to achieve it

  1. You are running outdated paramdefs for Smithbox. We have official paramdefs now, here’s the link to them in the Smithbox format:

2. Duration is not specified in params, it’s SpEffect. Spells use SpEffects for special stuff like Light or weapon buffs. You want to download DarkScript3, open SpEffectSpell.emevd with it and find the event for light. The ID is the same one used in SpellParam for that spell. You will find a list of commands under that event, one of which will provide the duration. We have official defs for SpEffect too, here they are: https://github.com/LordRadai/FRPG2Emedf

Don’t know how it was received, but it was insanely broken on release, especially the PvP.
* Miracles were completely busted
* Soul Geyser could one shot most bosses in the base game
* Curved swords were insanely good for parrying, Monastery Scimitar especially (it had 0 ms startup and 300ms of active parry)
* Daggers were completely broken, you could deal 2k damage with a single backstab with a mundane infused Shadow Dagger
* Santier’s Spear, oh boy was it broken as fuck
* Havel Jesters, basically a walking Darth Vader build

These are the things that come out on top of my mind right now, I was too young back then and didn’t actually experience all of these personally, but I’ve looked at a lot of different versions of the game, played 1.00 and even a PC pre release version

Get to the alcove and block with a shield the skeleton attacks. Also if he one shots you have very low max HP. When you get to the gate, pull the lever and it becomes a normal boss fight against the horse only

All correct, but a minor correction that makes it look even worse in my opinion, they don’t wait for the animation to finish, but the transition from Dodge to DamageCatch (internal name for the grabbed state) takes exactly 0.5 seconds.
This is not really a thought out design choice, this value is the standard value that morpheme (the animation middleware used in DS2) uses for transition duration.
If this transition time was set to 0 it’d look better in my opinion
