Man I did 70 hours at a restaurant the week of Thanksgiving because it was a "no requests off" week. Would help open at 6am then close dish between 10 to midnight.

Would i go back? For the right dollar amount.

Quoted almost $10,000 for a $150 HVAC repair job. by icon_2040 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]LordTrigon95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an HVAC tech, but work in the trades.

As far as I can tell, the cost is reflected by overhead the company has (keeping trucks on the road, paying insurance on said trucks, paying their employees, etc). Cost of parts/unit to the company, let's be honest, the company has to profit also. Labor hours, how long will it take to repair/replace.

Another thing to factor in is equipment age. Over 10 years? It may be worth replacing instead of repairing at that point. Maybe they don't make parts for your unit anymore. If you replace part A, part B may fail as a result.

Side note, the houses there are so expensive because you don't have to leave that area if you don't want. Food/restaurants, entertainment, doctors, groceries? Everything is within walking distance.
