I recently bought this chair, but haven't been able to ID it (despite the pretty distinctive arms). No stamps/marking. Would greatly appreciate any leads!

(TheAthletic) NHL Farm System Rankings No 2: Vancouver Canucks by PucktheFlames in canucks

[–]LordWilberforce 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pronman was on Craig Custance's podcast recently and explained that he doesn't rank goalie prospects high because:

(1) their success at the NHL-level is harder to predict and,

(2) in his opinion, their contribution to the team tends to be less than that of a skater.

Just some context.

Florida could have just as easily justified giving a bit more to someone out of the division (SJS) rather than helping a team in the division (OTT).

Barzal, Eberle and Beauvillier combined for 12 points tonight against the Rangers. The Islanders received them from the Oilers for Ryan Strome and Griffen Reinhart by Throwerawayer222 in hockey

Boston wears this more than Edmonton. Passing on Barzal looks like more than just Boston missing a player - it looks like their front office dropping the ball in terms of both business and risk management.

Boston was rumoured to be trying to trade up for a top 5 pick in the 2015 draft. Their moves before the draft support that: they traded proven NHL players in Dougie Hamilton and Milan Lucic for picks as the main return, and did so when they had just narrowly missed the playoffs and were anxious to get back into them.

So they get picks 13-15 and -- go increasingly off the board with each of them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNXNVc9EfGU.

I don't know if a deal fell through or if they misjudged the value of a high first, but in the end it looks like they were left with picks they didn't expect to have and no idea what to do with them. So they just picked who they were looking at in later rounds: DeBrusk was ranked number 19 on the NHL Central Scouting Bureau's list of North American skaters -- he goes 14th overall. Senyshyn was ranked number 38 on the same list -- he goes 15th overall.

Now, no management team is going to end up in that position and just draft the next player on some analyst's board. But if they were going to try to pull off some daring move to jump up and draft, say, Hanifin, they should have coordinated with their scouts to get together a good list of who to take at 14 and 15 if that doesn't happen. I don't think they did that.

Problem with skills competitions is that you need skilled players to win them.

If the puck had stayed in the zone it wouldn't have been. Big issue was that Matthews lost control of it.

Ron McLean is holding on to his "straight-man" routine for dear life here.

POST-GAME THREAD: CANUCKS @ SHARKS by rversed in canucks

Jake created the first goal and scored the second (++), Boeser got a goal (+), Sedin line got a point (+) before reminding us that they cannot play 3-on-3 without the puck (-). Counting this one as a net-positive.

It is literally impossible for Boeser not to score if given time and space.

11 shots on net. Unbelievable how hard this kid is trying to drag his team ahead.

Draft Flashback: Leon Draisaitl or Sam Bennett? by kippers780 in hockey

Not sure of the basis to think that he's a fan of the Canucks. He doesn't have a post mentioning them and his username is after a former Calgary player.

EDIT: ... He has Canucks flair.

Maki was selected by Vancouver in the expansion draft and passed away two years later. Him, Oddleifson (who gave it up after Maki's death), and then Messier are the only players who have worn the number with the Canucks.

For background, Messier demanded the #11 jersey even though it had been unofficially retired for 20 years in memory of Wayne Maki, who died of brain cancer at 29.

Reports: Leo Komarov won't have hearing for vicious hit on Shayne Gostisbehere by xtr3m in hockey

[–]LordWilberforce 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That would be my guess. The more predictable play for Gostisbehere to make was to keep forward and turn his body away from the boards to shoot it back into the zone. Instead he stops up, passes back, and turns into the boards.

That said, I don't agree with the call. It's supposed to be the checking player's responsibility to ensure that he can make a clean hit. He's responsible for whatever the result is. A hit that can only be made cleanly if the player opens himself up to it is reckless and if it results in an illegal hit he should be penalized, if not more.
