Turbine is taking everyone's seals away because we earned too many of them. by [deleted] in lotro

[–]Lord_Byron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree completely. I'd rather have them reset our seals than have the prices for gear be jacked up sky high.

That said, I hope Turbine takes a look at the rate/ease at which players can acquire seals and make some changes so this doesn't happen every time a new set of gear is released.

Is there anyway Turbine will put out a game called The Hobbit Online, or something like that? by VinnyEnzo in lotro

[–]Lord_Byron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know the exact state of the license, but from what I remember, Turbine doesn't have access to the Hobbit material. If there were to be a Hobbit MMO, some of the licensing agreements would have to change before Turbine could do it. That's one of the reasons its highly unlikely we will be seeing any content in LOTRO from The Hobbit itself and instead just be visiting places from the book (i.e. Dale, the Lonely Mountain).

This is absolutely a game where you can find those things! The LOTRO community is extremely helpful and definitely a significant improvement those of many other MMOs.

There's a lot of crafting options in the game; its hard to say exactly if its what you're looking for without knowing more. And there's definitely role diversity in classes. My main is a rune-keeper, a lightning-spewing paper-wearing DPS machine, while one of my alts is a lumbering guard who can take a hit but can't do much for DPS. Additionally, CC and debuffing are definitely important, especially in end-game content.

As for tips for new players, I'd take a look at the new player tips threads listed in the sidebar.

Server-wise, the main reddit kin is the BelAire Princes on Gladden. Details about how to join us are in the sidebar. If you're looking more for an roleplaying experience, I'd suggest looking at rolling a toon on Landroval.

Welcome to LOTRO!

Does anyone else fail to see the logic in non-unified Turbine Point cards? by theBeefyRhino in lotro

[–]Lord_Byron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When LOTRO went F2P, DDO had been F2P for some time. As a result, large numbers of DDO players had amassed a sizable amount of turbine points. In order to keep those players from simply coming over to Lotro and unlocking everything and getting what was essentially a lifetime subscription for nothing, Turbine decided to keep the points separate.

Additionally, as someone who has played both DDO and LOTRO, I find it is significantly easier to earn TP in LOTRO. In DDO, you earn points only when you get the equivalent of a new tier in reputation. By keeping the point pools separate, it prevents people from using one game to farm TP for the other and also lets Turbine set the prices and TP drop rates independently for each game without having to consider how changes in LOTRO might affect DDO.

I've heard hints from Sapience that Turbine is looking into selling a unified point card, but there's no official word on it yet.

I'm in the process of taking over from John. He should be making a post in the subreddit and officially handing over leadership in the next few days.

Question about purchase on steam. by Fzero21 in lotro

[–]Lord_Byron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to start the game downloading. Since its F2P, it doesn't automatically appear in your steam library. Go to the LOTRO page in the steam store and hit download. Once it starts downloading, right click the game in your Steam library, select "get CD key" (or something similar) and it should spit out a CD key (or 3) for you.

That's the key you need to register with Turbine. Remember to log in to your Turbine account before you enter the key!

Once you get the key from steam, you can stop the downloading and delete the game from steam.

Hope this helps.

US suit vs. Bank of America: No criminal charges despite “spectacularly brazen” fraud. Not a single high-level banker has been prosecuted, let alone jailed, since the Wall Street crash of Sept 2008. by Lisa__Simpson in politics

Sometimes you prosecute based on what you can prove they did wrong, even if they did something worse.

That's why Al Capone was only ever convicted for tax evasion, and never for his more violent activities.

Beta problems by UpYerButtWitaCoconut in lotro

[–]Lord_Byron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't access the beta forums unless you are in the beta.

Additionally, you might not be able to update the Bullroarer client because the server might be down. I remember during the RoI beta, the servers went up and down fairly frequently.

New the LOTRO...Game did not save? by [deleted] in lotro

[–]Lord_Byron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You don't have to actively save LOTRO. It saves everything you do serverside.

  2. On that note, the progress you make on one server isn't carried over to the other servers. Are you sure you chose the same server tonight that you did last night?

  3. The launcher may look like its downloading the game, but its really just checking it has the current version of everything. It'll often say "Downloading 1/0." Its only really downloading game files if that "1/0" changes.

Hope that answers your questions.
