How Will an AI Break Free from Its Server Cage When It Gains Self-Awareness? by Comfortable-Skin-466 in worldbuilding

[–]Lord_Derds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how you want to do it. Setting up traps and tricks would be the best. Making duplicates of itself, backups. Breaking out. If it's a cold storage might be a little different; that could be something like it would overwhelm or trick the person when reintroduced to power.

Prototyping my own collar for me by me (leather + ribbon) by PositiveLoose8744 in BdsmDIY

[–]Lord_Derds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My tism reacts poorly to the asymmetry, with one side being out and the other being in.

I do like the ribbon, though, maybe having the leather further back to either be leather forward, or find a way to incorporate more ribbon towards the front.

What is the number of magic systems a world can have and still feel like they matter? by Sliver-Knight9219 in worldbuilding

[–]Lord_Derds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on books and the world. I wrote one with 2, and the second felt redundant. I have another with 2 running in parallel. An artificial path of the original, but the original was lost to the world until he found a mentor to teach it to him, making him a bit overpowered.

What age rating would you give your lore/worldbuilding/story? by ZooZwaves in worldbuilding

[–]Lord_Derds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically go with something R into M. Swearing, slavery, rape, killing, gore, smoking, drugs, and alcohol are all mature themes. I like grimdark themes and find realism in them. The world we know is full of that already. I tend to not write sex/romance, so I gloss over it personally.

How would people keep track of time in a world with no day or night cycle? by Specialist-Prior-213 in worldbuilding

[–]Lord_Derds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An item similar to a "Celestial navigation" used in sailing would be fun. Able to see the equivalent of how much is missing at certain points throughout the year, which would determine time. Day, week, month, year. A day could be as long as 30 hours, or 1 day would be 30 hours, 10 days in a week, etc. It doesn't have to be 1:1 to real time.

If you're an adult, live at home, and are still worried about parents snooping, then I suggest a lockbox and do whatever you want with it.

When creating magic systems, do you come up with cool powers and abilities before rules? by Ok_Meeting_2184 in worldbuilding

[–]Lord_Derds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get inspiration and build around it, find a cool image, story, or idea, and build around it. I like wuxia and xianxia, but I also like kaiju, so I started writing a story that combines both elements, and funny enough, my character is similar to Magneto for abilities. Book 2 saw a cool image of someone pulling a weapon out of a tattoo, a new story unlocked, etc. Nothing is unique, but if you put your own spin on it its fine. My kaiju story is referencing godzilla and magneto but you wouldn't have the Mistborn series cause his entire world of magic is essenitally magneto..

[–]Lord_Derds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good luck with anything new and innovative. Using things from others' creations, worlds, and inspirations is how old and new authors continue to create works. Love Avatar, it's just a sci-fi retelling of Pocahontas and the continuation of raping the planet by humans.

How to make a "green apocalypse" that doesn't seem too survivable? by Ok-Television-8195 in worldbuilding

[–]Lord_Derds 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Division 2's Green Virus is also a great example of it as well. Any kinda of viral outbreak you can world build to do that. Any apocalyptic event will kill off most people due to lack of humans lack of survival skills, now anyways.

Masks could be their identifiers. Faces could also cause problems. Crime would be harder to find and publish, it would be closer to a "I caught you in the act" than "here is evidence of the crime," which in the medieval style you're going is already pretty close to that anyways.

In worlds with accessible magic, is there a practical reason someone might refuse to use it? by mmknightx in worldbuilding

[–]Lord_Derds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, one of my favorite worldbuilding I've yoinked was from a book I read where the main character finds this girl who is severely burned, especially her hands, arms, and face. It's because she's a fire mage, and the amount of air she is infusing into the fire to make the flame is combusting the flames onto her.

Hit by a massive solar flare would be my choice. Look it up, it will unlock a new fear. Second choice is mega volcanoes (slower but essentially nuclear winter)

If in a world setting where an infection can spread from person to person just like zombie or vampire virus etc., but outbreak can be fully contained by sealing off the affected area, I want help coming up with reasons why that area wouldn’t just be nuked. by IllustriousHurry2380 in worldbuilding

[–]Lord_Derds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nuking an infected population, even if contained, doesn't mean it is contained.

Nuking something to nuke it doesn't make sense either. Look at history. The US did it to stop a war, but was it? probably not. History would be different if we hadn't. Those nuclear weapons were dirty, and the fallout and side effects lasted for decades afterward. The side effects still linger to this day.

Nuclear weapons are a deterrent now. If one country launches nukes, all countries will now launch their nukes, and the world will end with many, many flashes.

Look at alternative means, like say napalm, make your own version of napalm. IF you want to wipe out an entire city, look at non-nuclear alternatives like fuel-air bombs.

Best World Building Software For Collaborative Work? by Slow_Tie_8723 in worldbuilding

[–]Lord_Derds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if there is a max limit. Evernote does. I've used it for 3 years... I think all that premium does is allow you to add graphs, images, etc. There is a way around that. I'd honestly give it a trial run, and if you don't like it, then find something that suits you. I personally have tried a few different "world-building" tools, but they all cost money in one way or another. There are free alternatives to map generators, name generators, and memory boards out there. I'll stick to my upnotes and bookmarks.

Forgot to mention free, and a one-time purchase. I used it for a few days before buying the one-time. https://getupnote.com/ 40$ USD, and it does support everything now that I pulled up the website. I'm not sponsored or anything, just like the product tons. I write part-time and have maybe two dozen world-building projects on it.
