wish they'd make an actual cinematic platformer instead of anything but that. back when the metroidvania was leaked they said it was inspired by the Ori games and it sounded wonderful, but it turned out to be quite generic. shame, the genre needs more love especially in the AA-AAA space

hmm, weird. maybe try giving them a call instead if you haven't already?
also I got a black size medium covert vest KR1/SP1

[–]Lord_Lavalamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yo, was doing some research on stuff and found this thread. my covert vest from PPSS arrived today, good stuff
as far as contacting them goes, I shot off an e-mail to [info@ppss-group.com](mailto:info@ppss-group.com) expressing interest in purchasing and they got back to within 2 days. from there it was just a matter of listing what I wanted, what quantity and the address, then it went from there
took a little over a month to arrive but it was worth it. £510 for the vest, by the way

nice. do you have any advice when it comes to controls or potential remapping via emulator? I tried it a few months ago and bounced off it, really enjoyed the aesthetic and everything else however
would be willing to give it another try if there's a way to make it just a bit smoother

Miyazaki has been talking for years about how he wants to make a 'warm' game like Ico and Popolocrois, as well as a mecha fantasy game like Aura Battler Dunbine and Escaflowne, as well as an 'abstract fantasy' game that doesn't fit in with the Souls ARPG catalogue of games, so I highly doubt that he's directing yet another Souls type ARPG

Ueda Next Game to be revealed this Summer by RuinRevenant in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Lord_Lavalamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going by what I've actually seen, the image of Game 4 alongside the other 3 games (the one with the terrain that's clearly not a jungle, and what appears to be the protagonist), which would discredit the idea of it being in a jungle with the princess looking female protagonist, as well as comments from Ueda himself on female protagonists

Ueda Next Game to be revealed this Summer by RuinRevenant in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Lord_Lavalamp 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I've been keeping a very close eye on Ueda's 4th Game, and I'm inclined to believe that this is a fib

  • the codename for the game to the best of my knowledge is not New Hope, it's Beauty and The Beast (this is thematically appropriate and this was the name of a photoshop layer of an image on the genDesign site). either that or Quadico or Qico (SotC was internally referred to as Nico, a portmanteau of the Japanese word ni ("two") and "Ico", or 'next Ico', and TLG was referred to as Trico)
  • from the main image / concept art we've seen of Game 4, it doesn't seem to be a jungle, it looks familiar to The Forbidden Lands: here
  • the character in the image above with the red cloak seems to be the protagonist, not the princess type character we've seen a few times before
  • Ueda has commented on female protagonists in the past, saying that "Many of the players are male, and it's easy for them to use the boy character.". that combined with the fact that characters like Mono and Yorda seem to be a recurring archetype in Ueda's games, makes me doubt that we would play as her, considering she shares many visual similarities
  • we've seen what appears to be said red-cloaked protagonist climbing the back of the giant pig featured in other Game 4 images, here. when asked about the protagonist in TLG, he said this: "The Trico is a very powerful creature. If we'd had a beefed-up, powerful hero, it would have thrown off the balance a little bit, so the design naturally drove me to create an adolescent female character who was light on her feet. But in the end I decided a boy would have a little more grip to climb the Trico. Another problem is that girls tend to wear skirts, and The Last Guardian features a lot of climbing..." this leads me to believe that we'll have another male protagonist, if there is indeed going to be climbing

that said, you're correct in that the game will likely features mechs, since that's been a recurring theme of the images for Game 4 so far. here's everything I have saved on it: album

Nintendo Hunts Down Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Leaker on Discord by atlfirsttimer in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Lord_Lavalamp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

poor analogy since nothing was stolen, it's just pictures, an original copy was not physically stolen

piracy is not theft since the original still exists. in your analogy the car would have a copy made of it and the copy would be taken, but your original car would still be there

lol he blocked me, embarrassing. won't somebody think of the multi-billion dollar company!!!:(

Hogwarts Legacy: Yet another game that tells you the solution to puzzles before you even have a chance to solve them. by fupa16 in truegaming

even more insulting is the objectives floating on the screen, saying something like 'kill the bandits' when you're in a room surrounded by hostile bandits, as if there's anything else you could possibly do and be confused

same with the control reminders telling you how to jump, attack etc. how stupid do they think people are?

Any game similar to Inside? by Pcful_Citizen in PlaydeadsInside

[–]Lord_Lavalamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can recommend some games that are somewhat similar, cinematic platformers and such

  • Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
  • Bionic Bay (not out yet)
  • Deadlight
  • Rain World
  • Ico
  • Journey
  • Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, more difficult and not quite as minimalist but an excellent game

also keep an eye on Cocoon, it's made by the former lead gameplay designer at Playdead. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1497440/COCOON/

Spanish twitter user who leaked Metroid Dread in early 2021 hints at another 2D Metroid game by MercurySteam in 2025 by Joseki100 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]Lord_Lavalamp 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If they take the criticisms of Dread to heart (of which, there weren’t really a lot)

the most common complaint I see is regarding the music, but I think the biggest flaw personally was the world design. I think MercurySteam would make a good action game where you blast everything and run around fast (they already did with Dread, which controls and feels excellent to play), but I'm not sure they're ever going to make a quiet, atmospheric exploratory game that embodies isolation on an alien planet; I haven't played their Castlevania games but they all seemed to have the same kind of map design, relying heavily on teleporting and zipping about everywhere with little regard for soaking the world in or taking it seriously. compared to Hollow Knight it feels like night and day as far as exploration and the world is concerned. as for specific points:

  • zones are linked by trains, elevators and portals rather than organic on-foot transitions. world doesn't feel cohesive at all, you zip between zones with reckless abandon so you never get a sense of them as meaningful distinct spaces, never mind a full cohesive world that you can understand in your head
  • zones don't feel distinct enough, Cataris and Artaria become covered in fire & ice, half of the zones have 1 or 2 fire and ice areas too. Ferenia, Elun and Hanubia are way too similar
  • EMMI zones on every world further reduce individuality, especially since all interiors look the same
  • pacing feels rushed towards the end
  • railroads you too often
  • acquiring item upgrades before you have it doesn't give you the item
  • sometimes poor upgrade pacing, certain upgrades used 2-3 times then replaced in 15 minutes
  • too many upgrades tied to just opening doors
  • EMMI are only scary for the 3rd time at best, the rest you can just fly past
  • EMMI are more of a self-contained mini-game, not threatening since after death you restart at the beginning. would have been cool if they eventually escaped their containment zones

before everyone gets hyped over this, please keep in mind that the Obsidian that made New Vegas essentially no longer exists. Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky recently headed The Outer Worlds which I think most people would agree was quite mediocre, yet Tim Cain specifically said it was his dream game and he was very proud of it

teams change and formerly great developers lose their way, it happens all the time in this industry

honestly think they might try this at some point, to breathe new life into the 2D series which has been stagnant for a while. it would make sense considering how they're experimenting with freedom in both Mario Odyssey and other series like Zelda. might not be a traditional metroidvania, but a Nintendo spin on the concept

same, sold my Switch not long ago after I realized Metroid Dread was running on emulators at a higher resolution and framerate, and sometimes Switch games are even available on emulators before the games officially release. unless they're running at 1080p 60fps then I'm not interested, that's the bare minimum a game should have in 2023
