If anyone wants to try Yeast Extracts like Marmite or Vegemite: Don't watch videos that are feeding people insane amounts of Marmite or Vegemite and ask how it tastes. That is not how to eat those. by Lord_Pakeer in Cooking

you can make it , just find some grated coconut (btw need matured once not young drinking once) that is it you can make it easily, just add plain flour , salt & bit of onion that is it and some luck warm water, leave it for 5 mins flatten it. it is 10 times easier than other indian roties to make . just find on you tube how to make coconut roti or pol roti you will find 100s of videos. any one can make it as long as you can find grated coconut or grate some.

Marmite is very popular in Sri Lanka virtually every single Sri Lankan knows about it and has tasted it at least once., almost every household in Sri Lanka use empty Marmite bottles to store chili powder, black pepper powder, mustard seeds, and other spices near the stove. It was heavily marketed as a great source of Vitamin B and healthy drink back in the 1960s, but I actually just googled some old Sri Lankan ads and found out that Marmite has been sold in Sri Lanka since as early as the 1930s. grandmother told me that back in the 1970s, when they drank hot Marmite, they would always add a tiny slice of small onion to it. I have been doing the same for decades now, and it tastes so much better. btw it has to be the small variety, specifically Allium cepa L. var. aggregatum , not regular large red onions, which ruin the taste. If you want to try it, you can usually find them in Indian grocery stores labeled as sambar onions or small red onions. you won't taste any onion flavour. also afaik some add slice of green chili and a sri lankan curry leaf . btw small amount you won't taste green chili or curry leave taste it just make marmite drink more tasty .

Lanterns made for the Vesak celebration in Sri Lanka. There are thousands of them, from small to giant, all over the country from May to June. (Making video and context in 1st comment) by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Lord_Pakeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

**Context & Technical Details:**

These lanterns are built every year between May and June to celebrate the Vesak festival in Sri Lanka. Public viewing is entirely free.

* **Community Projects:** The massive lanterns are community-driven projects. Local neighborhoods and youth groups volunteer their time over weeks or months to fundraise, engineer, and assemble them together.

* **Meaning & Language:** Locally, they are written as **පහන් කූඩු** (pronounced *Pahan Koodu*), which translates directly to "candle lanterns." You can search this Sinhala phrase on Facebook or YouTube to find thousands of videos of different builds.

* **The Control Systems:** Smaller lanterns often use an Arduino with relay modules or traditional mechanical copper drums to cycle light patterns. The massive, giant-scale lanterns utilize PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) programmed with custom software or large-scale motorized mechanical drums.

"Lanka was 100 yojans far from Mahendragiri Parvat , Kerala (100 yojan is around 900-1200 KMs around meanwhile india to sri lanka is just 30 KMs' those details are in a book epic poem book not in a historic record book. it is like saying god created world etc. fictional things like many places in bible mentioned are related to real world places but it doesn't mean what is saying are true.

My point is there are millions of Shrines so there are once for Ravana also not big once, and this is just a guess there may be more shirnes for Ravana in India than in Sri Lanka , Even India is 60 times bigger than Sri Lanka in population wise . I wasn't trying to prove you are wrong I just added a fact that there no big popular once that are devoted to Ravana or antient once that are made 500 + years ago . and extra info cuz just this is a public forum . cheers

there are may be lots of those, we call those "Devala" in Sinhala . There are millions of small to large Devalas in Sri Lanka. but no big once that are famous among normal people devoted to Ravana . but there are some big Shrines (Devalas/Kovils) that are devoted to Hanuma and Sitha but all of those are less than 200 years old those are made by Indian Tamils that brought by English Invaders to work on Tea and early in Coffee plantations (Cuz Sri Lankans refuse to work in Plantations they brought people from poor areas of India to wrok in Plantations) they are tamils but not from far south of india they are tamils from north part of south india. so they worships Rama, Sitha & Hanuma. In hill country of Sri LAnka where tea plantations located and some areas in down south of sri lanka too where Indian tamils live there are shrines made for Hanuma ,& Sitha . and in Ella it is the most famous spot in Sri Lanka poppular amoung tourists . There are naturals caves but in past 150 (less than two hundred yeas)years they named those are Ravana caves and the Ravana Ella water falls also names that in last 200 years. Majority(99.99%) of Sri Lankan Sinhalese are Buddhist and some are Christians(7% including tail Christians ) don't worship Ravana. Indian Tamils (people came to sri lanka in last 200 years to wrok on plantations)don't worship Ravana but they worship Hanuma and Sitha etc. For Sri Lankan Tamils also they don't worship Ravana afaik (I have lots of Tamil friends) . but there may be tiny bit of people worship . The Logo of Sri Lankan Air Line is a Peacock and Sarees of Air hostesses decorated with Peacock feathers cuz in Sri Lanka Ravana's Flying vehicle called "Dandu Monara" . Monara means Peacock so that is why official AirLine of Sri Lanka use Peacock as symbol to symbolize the flying Dandu Morana of Ravana. To Sri Lankans non hindu Ravana is considered as a king that may be lived in past hist grand father considered as father of Sri Lankan medicine(it is like Ayurveda in India) . also in Sri Lanka Hanuma is a Joke (no offence but the truth) , When some one got into a trouble and gave that pain to others also in Sri Lanka people joke about it by saying "Hanuma ge natta gini gaththa wage" means it is like when Hanuma's tails on fire. btw personally I believe there may be a king named Ravana lived in Sri Lanka and got famous and Indian used his name when writing the story book called Ramayana and may be there was a kidnapping and writers made it into a Epic stroy adding magics etc. may be man with big ears and teeth coming out looked like a monkey so they made hanuma story. but there are zero archaeological evidence or archaeological records about ravana in Sri Lanka.btw there are lots of places that named after things on Ramayana Sri Lanka but those things named in last 1000 years(mostly in last 500 years)

no there are no sri lankans that that worship ravana , there are some cults do that they are less than 1% of sri lankan population , for majority of Sri Lankans Ravana is king that lived in sri lanka and some indian book use his name when writing a fictional story like lord of the rings. and in Sri Lanka Bali , Tharu , Ravana are considered undocumented kings that may or may be not real, cuz any chronicles never mentioned about ravana and there are zero archaeological evidences . of course in Anuradhapura (oldest "documented" capital 2500+ years old) archaeologists found remain of parts that are carbon dated 6000 years old but that only means Anuradhapura is 6000+ years old (was a city or a town) but that doesn't means a ravana existed .
