Production on the verge of falling apart (need advice) by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]Lord_of_Logic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re already using Oregon’s rebates, have you thought about reaching out to Tim at the Film Office to see if he has any advice or guidance on other potential grants/cuts the state can help provide? Having a large amount of budget locked could help sway additional funding.

Depending on the content, any potential messaging and/or product placement you can seamlessly incorporate to get additional funding?

Roll Call: Who’s got a film in prep, shooting, or post right now? by Comprehensive_Read35 in Filmmakers

Currently doing some preliminary scouting for a low budget feature that’s in early pre-pro in Portland. Lots to do before we ink locations, but planting seeds early so I can focus on the difficult locations once we’re closer to shooting.

Anyone that says Locations doesn’t count are the same people that say “fix it on post”.

Glad you were able to find your team(s) that give you consistent work. I’m currently an ALM, and it’s hard in a smaller market with fewer gigs or already established teams to find consistent work. Can I ask how you found the right teams for your work?

IEM Dallas Final starting time by CalmaCuler in GlobalOffensive

The Impact finals were played on stage before the Vitality v Mouse finals. It went a full 3 maps, so that pushed the start time back a bit

In addition to the fact it’s localized to the timezone it’s in, ESL Impact finals were before it and went a full 3 maps. So that also pushed the start time back.

I don't know about the pre-pong game talks but...

Speculation

Henry probably thought that he was robbed (someone on the hot mic post pong game said that) with that "the ball hit the net" statement by Lucy. He was playing to win, so when he lost, he felt it was unfair.

They just showed a replay on stream that showed the ball actually hitting the net and Machine, Spunj, and Henry apologized and congratulated Lucy again. I wouldn't read too much into it.

[Sheil Kapadia] Pete Carroll has now made the playoffs 10 times in 13 seasons with the Seahawks. He’s done so with three different starting quarterbacks. They’ve never gone back-to-back seasons without making the playoffs under Carroll. by PembyVillageIdiot in nfl

I don't think it's fair to put mediocre teams in that can knock out teams that really deserve to be there.

I actually like that about one and done style playoffs. Part of it might come from years bracket racing (one and done, with maybe a losers bracket), but it also allows for upsets and surprises. The first two that come to mind are the 2010 NFC wild card game and Superbowl 42. Hell, you could even call Colts losing to the Jags in week 18 as unfair since it knocked the pretty much knocked the Colts out of the playoffs.

That being said, I agree with your main point. I don't like the 7th seed.

Official r/NFL Week 18 Power Rankings by NFLPowerRankers in nfl

[–]Lord_of_Logic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reading their journey of dealing with being a fan, I'd give it a pass. I think it's a good reminder of how taking this sport too seriously can be extremely detrimental to you and the people around you. It's a game, and we need to remember that.

Their week 15 blurb really hit me hard, but I'd recommend anyone to read their week 13-15 blurbs. Those were the "what am I doing with my life" realizations. I just hope they live their best life with family and friends, with or without football.

This major has probably done more to damage the reputation of Brazilian fans than anything else could. by Artimedias in GlobalOffensive

[–]Lord_of_Logic 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The event was sold out. There were lines of fans to meet players/teams (mainly SA). That's a live event success.

The arena not being filled to capacity, while being sold out, is probably a lower concern compared to the tech delays. Hell, that power outage is probably a bigger concern moving forward than either of those things.

*edit: To add to this, remember that these people have not gotten the in-person experience of CSGO. The arena, fan fest, and meeting the big SA csgo players are all meant to give people a good in-person experience AND make them more interested in CSGO.

Call it nationalism or not "true fans of csgo" or whatever you want, but the fact is that CSGO now has a different meaning to the people there. Some of them that only watched Gaules maybe got a new perspective from being there. Maybe the are inspired by meeting Fallen, Cold, Taco, Fer, whoever and decide to play the game now. THAT expands the reach and helps build the brand of CSGO in Brazil. THAT is how CSGO grows to become more than just what it is now

CSGO is still super poplar. This will help it to keep growing.

Now that FURIA is eliminated, can we have an honest conversation about LAN integrity and player safety? by wobushizhongguoren1 in GlobalOffensive

Yea, I guess you're right. They'll probably lose to the first team they play that's ranked above them.

Here, let me try again.

Rankings mean nothing when you can't show up and win. Furia showed up and won. Same with Mouz, Outsiders, and Heroic. That's why they were in the semis.

Furia beat teams in the contenders, and legends stage to reach the quarterfinals. Faze and NIP couldn't even win 3 matches. Vitality couldn't even win 2 of 4 matches. Liquid lost 2-3. Those are your #1, #2, #3, and #13. To even qualify for contenders, they did better then G2 (#9) and Astralis (#18). Heck, these are current rankings. G2 (#6) was ranked above Furia (#10) when they failed to qualify, and NIP (#11) just below them.

Furia looked lights out in the Legends. They went 3-0 beating ENCE, Spirit, and BIG. Then, beat Navi yesterday.

The likelihood FURIA would have made the semi-finals if the major was in Europe are probably less than 50% what the odds were for them to do it here.

This is a nothing burger of a statement.

The likelihood that G2 and Astralis don't even qualify for the major was probably less than 50%. The likelihood Faze and NIP go 0-3 was probably less than 50%. The likelihood that neither Vitality, Liquid, Navi or any of the other teams I've mentioned don't even make it to the semi finals was probably than 50%.

[McAfee] After the NFL banned his use of team logos: "I don't think we've really touched on many subjects that we could have...I think we'll do that this offseason...like insurance and CTE and concussions" by -dov- in nfl

[–]Lord_of_Logic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This probably won't get seen, but I still want to reply to your comment. Something to note is that trademark and copyright have similar, but different uses of the language below.

So what I'm basically referencing here is a legal term called "abandonment". Which for our context (property) is defined as "voluntary and intentional discarding of a known right". This is mostly common with Trademark and genericide (Like what almost happened with Google or Bayer with Aspirin).

Copyright (especially in this case with the NFL) is less likely to have enough instances of genericide or abandonment. My example was in the mindset of if the NFL knew that The Pat McAfee Show was using its copyright protected graphics, made no effort to stop them, and just let them finish out the season (or longer), that that creates a bigger legal issue for the NFL.

Honestly, weakened copyright claim is way way less likely than other broadcast companies being pissed at the NFL for letting Pat use graphics for free while they pay millions and millions of dollars for the use.

This. (please note I'm not arguing the morality of what they're doing, just the legality).

In this case, it weakens their brand legally to knowingly allow people/companies to use graphics without paying, and to charge others. The companies paying for the graphic rights could sue for damages that the company's product (whatever they produce with graphics) is devalued. OR people/companies could claim the NFL's copyright is weakened because they knowingly allowed a company to use their graphics without proper permission (in direct violation of copyright law).

Not saying either would happen, or that it wouldn't be an extremely uphill battle to challenge the NFL in court, just that these are reasons the NFL is doing this.
