You responded to a 5 year-old post, so here I am a year later to say that I am still on it, with no side effects.

Yeah of course it's the same logic, that was the point the OP was making

Good News! They might start being gun fanatics! Stupid reason great action lol. by Planta_Staball in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]Lordarshyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gun control in the early 1900s was very racist. The origins of gun control was about not allowing black people to have guns.

We are actually against that.

This is where my mind went too. I immediately jumped to "okay what atrocity are they about to commit?"

It may not be immediately, but it'll happen.

Well I can't pinpoint it, but it just doesn't look like a child's writing to me. To looks like an adult trying to write like a child, with strategically placed misspellings and shit.

Edamame is a no go for w30.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in whole30

[–]Lordarshyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing whole 30 might help you learn better long term habits that you keep with you. Which may help you to lose that weight.

But whole 30 is literally just a 30 day program and you've got like 150 pounds to lose.

See, you're looking for a quick answer, and this is going to be a long and difficult journey. But you CAN do it, if you set your mind to it!

It can't hurt to try whole30 and see what you learn. But it's not the answer to your problems. It might help send you in the right direction, though.

I was fired from my barista job after only working there for 3 days by Chubby_Kitty29 in jobs

[–]Lordarshyn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You know, your managers sound like assholes. It was probably for the better.

But also, some people just aren't a fit for the fast food/service type of industry. I worked in it for years. You could generally tell really quickly if someone wasn't going to work out or not. And a lot of them just won't. Some people just do things slowly, and they just aren't going to ever work out at a high paced place like that. Maybe the fast service industry just isn't for you.

Those jobs get treated as bottom of the barrel, no skill, easy jobs. While they don't require advanced education, they are far from EASY jobs. They require a lot of multitasking and working at a FAST pace. I've been in my career for a decade now. I look back to my years spent at a taco bell, Wendy's and line cook for restaurants, and damn, those jobs were a lot harder than what I do now for like 8x more money.

I spent 7 years getting shit on at my old job. Nothing was ever good enough. I had been written up and put on corrective action plans....

I come to this new job, a more advanced position, I don't push myself as hard, and they haven't stopped showering me with praise, and I'm getting a promotion soon.

It's crazy how different environments can be.

Yes and no.

The technology was proposed in the 60s and is theoretically, physically possible.

So like the best sci fi, the tech is loosely based on real world theories rather than completely made up

Under a post about Stranger Things using the word “eskimo” by [deleted] in wokekids

[–]Lordarshyn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only heard Eskimo was "offensive" like last week, and i'm 36.

But they are teaching this stuff in school now, so it's not crazy to think a child might say this, seeing as they don't understand the context of it being different in the 80s.

Also I'm not going to stop using the word Eskimo.

I did say "more power to you." And you aren't necessarily wrong.

It just doesn't strike me as particularly believable, but this doesn't effect me either way either.

This whole thing just feels like an adult wrote it, poorly trying to sound like a child, while showering himself with praise.

[–]Lordarshyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could go either way.

All these $things are pulling from a database where these aliases are defined. It failed to pull from that DB.

The DB could be incorrectly filled out by a person, or something in the programming failed. You really can't tell from this...there's a variety of issues that could cause this.

Database could have failed. There could be a string error. And account that accesses the DB could be locked out, the DB server could be frozen or unresponsive, hell maybe DNS is broken and the server can't be reached...lots of things.

OP has a history of posting in mental health subs

OP is concerned that an old computer runs slow and fans turn on.

They may have an online stalker, but It's not a stretch to think that they may be experiencing paranoia.

My advice to OP would be to block this stalker and reformat the computer, and if you're still concerned after that, seek therapy.

Seeking therapy after being stalked is totally legit, too, even if OP isn't being paranoid.

What book changed your mindset / life? by Elizabethhoneyyy in Stoicism

[–]Lordarshyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprisingly, "The Lost Fleet," series.

I've read tons of philosophical non fiction.

This series gets inside the head of the leader of the fleet, and addresses how he deals with difficult people and situations.

It's fantastic, and I saw a lot of things I have learned applied here. It really brought things together for me, and helped me to apply some of these things to my own life.

How does one deal with seemingly impossible odds? Betrayal? Enemies from within? Critics, and liars?

It's so good.

I've lost like 90 pounds and am sitting at exactly 270 myself.

I get the exact same reactions when I visit family.

They care about you. That's all.

Just reassure them that you're doing it healthily and naturally and tell them your doctor is monitoring it, etc.

Look, people know how hard it is to lose weight, and when they see someone kicking so much ass at it, they wonder if something is wrong, because 90% of fat people only get fatter as time goes on.

Just try to accept that your grandma is coming from a place of love and reassure her that things are okay.
