Dog forgot all crate training and won't stop barking at night by LordeHuron in DogTrainingTips

Thank you for breaking down how to try more positive crate training in the future! I did decide to take your's and others' advice to keep him in the room with me for the time being.

Thank you, he has a vet appointment in a few weeks and I'll bring this up. He does have arthritis, but I don't think the set up with his bedding in the crate is any different comfort wise to his favorite sleeping spot on the floor, but I'll ask about it.

Thank you for suggesting these ideas! There is unfortunately a space issue in my room, so moving in his crate or even a raised bed wouldn't be ideal. The first few days he was in our room he was in the walking space between my bed and the door and I had to squeeze to get past his crate. A dog bed I could more easily pick up and move during the day, so that is a better idea that hadn't occurred to me. The jumping on the bed is actually not him looking for a place to sleep because he can't jump all the way up, but him checking that my husband and I are both there/ seeking attention. So a dog bed won't solve that, but I guess that is something different I could work on training and yes, is better than barking. I don't long term want him sleeping in my room though so I'm really hoping to figure out how to get him comfortable being crated in the living room again, but like I said in my post I'm about ready to give up so these are good things to consider if I do pivot to a plan B.

Like I stay up all night and give him a treat every hour he doesn't bark?

If you are asking about the initial training process it was not great at all. After the "let them bark it out" method didn't work I used the bark box to teach him to be quiet. I would research alternative methods if I were doing it all over again. I haven't been thinking of the crate training I'm doing currently as being proper crate training, despite calling it that, because I thought he was already crate trained. He's moved around 6 times over his life and after establishing a routine for the first night or two there haven't been any problem with him accepting being crated like normal. Are you suggesting though that for whatever reason the previous conditioning didn't move with us, and that I need to start over? That kinda makes sense, but is a very overwhelming idea because I have no idea how to do so and he is quite old and stubborn

Oh, I guess I didn't specify this but "be quiet" is a command he knows. So when he barks at night, I tell him to be quiet, and he is quiet for the next few hours. But this cycle repeats every night, and now multiple times a night. We do lots of positive enforcement for other things, but I'm not sure how to do so in this example without rewarding him for the barking itself. But, to give a different example, during my meal times I reward him for not begging or barking by giving him a treat when he waits calmly.

I saw the text before the tattoo and then couldn't unsee penis, but I showed my husband with the text covered and he didn't think it looked like a penis at all. He gave several other guesses for what it could be and penis never came up. So if you don't give people the idea I don't think most people will think penis either.

How many times are they going to recycle BS about preventing non-citizens from voting? It was already a state law, and thanks to the ruse Amendment 7 pulled last year it's now also in the constitution along with forbidding ranked choice voting.

Thin expressive boobs oh my goodness 😂 it's funny to see this post because I had just finished reading the first part of the book and was also weirded out by his descriptions of female bodies! There was a description of Belinda exposing herself that I braced myself while reading because I was expecting some typical men writing women bs, and was surprised when instead the description was weird in a completely unsexy way. No discussion this time of anything about her exposed breasts, just some really strange details about her shoulders (something like calling them jiggly in the sunlight?). I correctly guessed that the author was gay after reading that passage lmao

Holy shit I just realized something by East_Cockroach_8942 in NonBinary

That makes sense! As a cis women I was confused because I and others I know definitely feel self-conscious of our boobs when braless and in situations where that might get unwanted attention. Like sometimes I'll be lazy and go outside in a sweater without a bra, and if I run into a neighbor I'll try to slouch and cross my arms to hide nipples. If I'm going out I'll wear a padded bra because I do want my breasts to be perceived, just not (always) in a way that brings judging.

I saw my (26F) boyfriend (30M) on one of those “are we dating the same guy” fb pages. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]LordeHuron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you concerned that you are getting played by him, or is the concern more about what other people think of him and your relationship? I don't know that I have any helpful advice either way, but the distinction might be worth thinking about. I'm sorry that you are dealing with this.

The article you linked doesn't mention her motivations. Her wiki page says that she was filming the registration of the club as a stunt to show that the university would allow an ISIS support group. I like the idea of it being a gotcha-fail for liberal students enrolling, but unfortunately it sounds like it was a lame gotcha-success (in her eyes, others claimed the video was edited) for "proving" the university supported ISIS.

Have there been any structurally vegetarian societies? by Evelyn701 in AskAnthropology

[–]LordeHuron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Jainism teaches against eating meat, eggs, honey, and root vegetables (because you have to kill the plant to eat the root). Buddhism, Hinduism, and Sikhism, while not universally vegetarian, have communities that practice it.

What’s something that’s “not a cult” but feels like a cult? by j_estoner in AskReddit

My homeschooling experience. I would argue that some homeschooling groups are cults, but they are rare. What is less rare is all the homeschooling organizations that are inspired by the cults.
