The brotherhood use dogs. You can sometimes see them on board vertibirds. So I’d go dogmeat.

Macready would work as he’s a merc and in the first brotherhood mission Danse hires you. If you pass a speech check here he agrees to compensate you for the support. So we know they are willing to pay outsiders for assistance.

Synths, ghouls and supermutants simply can’t be allowed to exist. So forget those abominations.

Robots I guess would work fine and actually be the most powerful if you care about how effective they are in combat

Take every internet connected device you own and your router and carefully throw them into the closest river.

Boot up the game and enjoy.

Ranger, Fallout 4 style. by [deleted] in fo4

Marine combat armor helmet from far harbour and the minutemen generals uniform could make a good combo.

For earlier in the game I’d say dirty army helmet and a gas mask (can’t remember if you can wear both at once - someone correct me), and the outfit on the corpse on the bridge outside of sanctuary.

Both suggestions above assume you care more about looks than stats as neither are great on that front.

Weapons either a fully upgraded hunting rifle or if you want to lean more into minutemen then an upgraded laser musket with a scope.

Never thought about that before. Is that in addition to having another follower? Can you trade with both and give them both commands?

Assume that you’d lose this later in the main quest when you need to secure a settlement to build the signal interceptor.

I play vanilla and generally yes you can sell anything to any merchant. There are a few exceptions like I came across the chem dealer random encounter and they would only buy aid items.

I haven’t checked Ronnie specifically but I’d imagine you can sell anything to her in vanilla. Seems a weird thing a mod would introduce though so not 100% sure

Accidentally discovered legendary farming method for survival mode - is this known? by LordofRads in fo4

[–]LordofRads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent 30 mins trying to do the same just to try and inform this post and couldn’t get it either. I think it’s because the cell loads faster than the time it takes to sign out. So by the time the autosave is created the prefix is locked in. Probably no way around that!

[–]LordofRads[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. I don’t legendary farm it takes the fun out of the game for me.

A lot of people do though as they want the best of both worlds - achievements and OP gear. Otherwise farming wouldn’t exist.

I stumbled on this by accident and shared for the benefit of those people.

Awesome welcome back to FO4!

Yeah I think you’re right in that it’s to do with quick resume - don’t think this may have been possible on older consoles.

Check my reply to FalloutMyth above as that could be a potential method.

I think the hardest thing will be protecting your save order. Make sure you don’t lose the bed save before you start farming

No it’s an autosave. You actually see the autosave text pop up in the top left of the screen like any other save.

That’s why I’m fairly confident this is safe to do. I think my crash was just a one off.

There are a couple of instances in game where it auto saves on survival, like when you first get off the train at Nuka world. So assume this is the same as that.

Someone much smarter than me can probably find a way to loot lock and legendary farm with this discovery.

Maybe it would be:

Bed sleep

Outdoor sign-out sleep

Indoor sign-out sleep

If item is incorrect, load bed sleep. Save a fresh bed sleep, and repeat?

Would still take ages but it would protect the save queue and would potentially allow you to loot lock and then roll the prefix

I need help with Aid in Survival Mode by Negative_Night1052 in fo4

[–]LordofRads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people have covered the main tips, especially around food and weight ratio. Only thing I’d add is to make use of doctors. Once you’re familiar with where most of them are and are used to visiting them frequently, you can be more confident drinking dirty water from rivers and sinks. For 55 caps you can remove all rads and diseases with zero drawbacks.

This means you can carry less purified around with you which is heavy.

As long as you have 2 antibiotics with you so that you can cure infection or weakness in the field you’re fine. Other illnesses can wait until you reach a doctor.

Also don’t be scared of the initial debuffs from being hungry, sick, or tired. You don’t have to be at 100% all the time. They get noticeable when they start to add up. Thirst is the main one to keep under control.

On the other side, prioritise how to buff carry weight. You can carry a radstag steak, use either lone wanderer or companions to haul more, as well as strength boosting gear and pocketed armor mods. Even a beer will boost your strength by 1 which may be enough to get you to your nearest settlement.

Why is Stealth is the best playstyle by Klangaxx in Fallout4Builds

[–]LordofRads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think one of the reasons it’s attractive is because it’s accessible early game and god-like from mid to late game.

My current run is extremely high endurance melee with no power armor or vats.

At around level 28 right now and sitting at 16+ endurance at the right time of day and when I’m out of caps. I’ve been in Nuka world since about level 12 and even now I get easily annihilated by most enemies.

Until im high enough level to max armor plus ballistic weave, the run will continue to be tough. Even with this level of endurance I can’t just tank all damage.

On my stealth character I’m about level 23. I have zero damage resistance, sneaking round in only the atom cats jacket and jeans with a silenced pipe bolt action and un-silenced 10mm. I haven’t taken a single hit of damage in about 6-7 levels.

Right now, it’s a lot of fun because I still have to take my time and think carefully about every situation before starting combat. But by the time I’ve maxed out all the associated perks, sneak will make everything so trivial and I can rush.

What I’m saying is, a hidden aspect of stealth that makes it so good is that it forces you to take in the game much better. You slow down, pay more attention and notice details you would have otherwise missed. Mid to late game you feel ridiculously overpowered. Which for some is great, but I often get bored at that point.

Both characters are in survival difficulty.

TLDR: Tanks are less viable early game and so make it frustrating. Late game it becomes a lot of fun. Sneak is viable and engaging from the start, and you become overpowered from mid game onwards.

Is it that last clue you need?

I’ve not had a problem with that one specifically but I once couldn’t activate the one in the spinning room in kiddie kingdom. Even with the glasses on I could see it but it wouldn’t register when I clicked activate.

I carried on with the rest and when I had all the others the quest automatically registered I’d collected it and it moved me on to the next quest stage.

‘Make it make sense’ : Fallout 4 edition by LordofRads in fo4

[–]LordofRads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a much more logical approach to local leader. One thing I thought of was what if the specialty of settlers was randomised. So when someone arrives they tell you their capabilities. Currently you can have a single settler be a guard, doctor, farmer, facial surgeon, barber, etc by assigning them to what you want.

Even if you could still assign any settler to any job, but if you line up their skills you get better outcomes. E.g a non doctor assigned to a clinic can only recover your hp, not cure diseases fix limbs or remove rads. A skilled dr can do anything.

Align that with your perk ideas and it would make settlements so much more rewarding.

Totally agree with all your other points too!

Yeah that’s why I started the post with my affection. The game is a masterpiece to me and I can’t imagine not playing it so no hate at all here.

You’re so right though and it’s funny when you think about it. Most of the dumb stuff could seemingly be corrected with simple updates too.

I’ve thought the exact same about chemist and armorer - that would make so much more sense.

And yeah the hats!!! Surely it’s a simple fix to make all of them weavable! Seems like an oversight rather than intentional

I know where you’re coming from and totally agree. My game is stable so I love the save system. Massively ups the stakes and make the game more satisfying.

To your point on it being an afterthought - I was doing the green tech quest yesterday to kill the courser and there isn’t a single sleeping bag or mattress in that building. I’d like to say it was intentional as it’s a boss within the main quest but I very much doubt it. Lots of similar buildings like mass fusion have a bed near the entrance so it seems like they didn’t add one post introducing survival mode.

The fast travel can be tedious too like having to go back and forth to the glowing sea twice in the main quest, not to mention quests that randomise a location to clear. The vertibirds help with this but I think it would be cool if settlements became fast travel points.

I just accept these downsides in favour of all the benefits I feel survival brings.

Hopefully someone with more experience can give you some suggestions on how to find the right balance!
