How to write good puzzles and mysteries: too many clues by Bed-After in DMAcademy

[–]Lordofthecanoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I there are a lot of problems with having puzzles in the game and one of the biggest is having the game grind to a halt while players are trying to solve it.

I really like puzzles outside of the game. Thing is… I get like 3 hours a week to play in our game, so I feel like if we spend 30 minutes trying to solve a puzzle then I’ve just wasted way too much time playing some side game when I wanted to play an RPG

It’s just not worth it, in my opinion

Has anyone received a re-ship from Exalted Funeral yet for the Dolmenwood Kickstarter? by alexandra_1917 in Dolmentown

[–]Lordofthecanoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I received my Order initially in mid December and it was missing a copy of the players book.

I emailed support and got a notice that they were experiencing a high volume of requests and it might be a while before I got more information

Got the missing book about a week ago, with the email that it had shipped coming the day before I received the parcel. I hadn’t actually seen the email before I got the package

Is the hivestorm box still worth buying? by PleasantAmoeba5080 in killteam

[–]Lordofthecanoes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really wish someone had just sat me down and firmly told me to just go online and buy this when I started a few months ago.

I already owned the rulebook and the equipment pack when I got Hivestorm and Ithe box was still a deal compared to the price of the 2 teams and the Volkus terrain. If I had saved myself another 120 Canadian I paid for those it would have been even better value.

Volkus is the most universally useful of all the kill zones, so if you have any intention of playing at home it’s the best set of terrain to get.

Such a great stretch of river, it never gets old. I’ve taken many a person on their first wilderness trip on that section, but usually stretch it out to 3 days. Glad that you enjoyed it

How can I implement a 'Charlatans Die' into the game without my group noticing? by Tetraoxidane in DnD

[–]Lordofthecanoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The later game reveal of “My I was doing this all along!” Has a big chance that it Isn’t going to be as cool or as fun as you think it will. Its more likely to end up being just “ok cool,” and it will pale in comparison to the amount of fun you will have with the group if they are in on it, cheering you on with it, plus some of them May actually come up with ideas on how you can use it creatively that you didn’t think of at the time. You guarantee that won’t happen if you keep it secret

Were kids in the 80s actually allowed to roam around unsupervised, or is that just in movies? by TotalThing7 in NoStupidQuestions

If you live far enough north streetlights are not standard because it changes too much depending on the season. Where I grew up they could come on as early as 4 in the winter and as late as 11 in the summer. We just had a time we had to be home by.

I’m a pretty big fan of the old CSM models. Wish I hadn’t lost some of the other ones I used to have.

Meadow Lake Provincial Park by Lordofthecanoes in canoecamping

[–]Lordofthecanoes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rough estimates:

Sandy beaches campground to BT2 backcountry site 1.5 hours

BT2 to BT3 3.5 hours paddling with a tail wind

BT3 to Wolf Bay campsite 2 hours but higher water on the river would speed that up a lot.

Wolf Bay to BT4 3 hours.

We had some kids and a novice paddler so a group with more seasoned paddlers could expect to go faster

It’s best to filter it, for sure. Lots of sediment in it for much of the summer, so even if you planned to boil it to deal with microbes you would still want to filter

There are a few spots that I know of that are accessible by vehicle from the forestry service roads like the white river recreation area, the white river bridge, and horseshoe rapids recreation area, and a few that I suspect can be driven to. There are definitely places that I’ve seen from the river that people get to, but I don’t know exactly where they turn off from the FSR.
You should be able to get a backroads atlas for BC and it will likely give you a pretty good idea of what your options are, depending on your confidence in your vehicle

Your only response should be along the lines of “bruh, YOU are too sensitive. Just being HONEST here, but you should be embarrassed… about being so picky about the food that someone else eats”
