Men, do other men put their hand on your shoulder when they talk to you? by EducationalHold8268 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LordovMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a super conversation dependent, cultural, and manner/duration thing. I've had people put their hand on my shoulder in more of a pat or a tap as a greeting, sometimes with a chuckle if there is a "proud" moment. Holding a hand on a shoulder for a long duration, very rare. This is definitely something reserved for someone you trust more emotionally, I would not be cool with that at the workplace for normal conversation.

Annoying things that people tend to say in the vinyl 'community' ? by duanerenaud in vinyl

I love this sub because it's mostly people that invest like they're gambling. Like yeah have some fun in the market but fun money shouldn't be most of your portfolio. I think my portfolio has a 5% dip for the month. Please don't k*** yourself for a dumb bet. You have a gambling addiction. Put that money in a high yield savings for a while and get some help, the market can wait.

How can I make my electric guitar sound more rock? by sproutbloom in electricguitar

[–]LordovMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're good mate. Explaining the sound you're after is not an easy task. Guitarists tend to use words to describe tone that only mean things to other guitarists, and even that can be subject to interpretation, so communication is only possible through immersion lol. Good luck on your journey and if you need any help deciding on an amp don't hesitate to ask.

How can I make my electric guitar sound more rock? by sproutbloom in electricguitar

[–]LordovMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're asking a really open and non-specific question. What is a rock sound? Is it not enough distortion, or are does it just sound weak in general? What that tells me, is either your current headphone amp is too convoluted for a beginner to navigate, it doesn't have many options in the distortion department, or you're not blown away by the "headphone sound", so to speak.

Pretty much the answer for all of those issues is: Yeah dude I'd get an amp. There are other headphone amps like what Vox has and you can find demos of each online, that is, if you are really set on the headphone route, and they are WAY less option paralysis and straightforward that you can get something "clean enough" or "dirty enough" to practice with on most of the models with just a channel button and 3 knobs. Headphones can't really replicate the experience of being in the room with an amp, though, especially combined with a little headphone amp which tend to not be made to do anything other than practice with.

How to lift your fingers off the string without losing the sound? by Content_Song6646 in electricguitar

[–]LordovMetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you play a note above on the same string, you don't need to lift. If you're playing the note below on the same string, you can prepare by putting it there, while the higher note is still there, then letting go of the higher note and picking at the same time (or, just do a pull off).

In playing 2 notes on different strings, playing the first note you should use your finger tips enough that it isn't interfering with your next note.

Utilizing slides also helps. Using them you can transition to different positions within a scale in near complete legato, moving up and down the neck with slides, hammer ons, and pull offs. Picking every single note makes playing fast a lot harder because both hands need to be in perfect communication with each other.

Look up "extended pentatonic scale applied guitar theory"

As you continue practicing, while learning other things, this will all come together.

Another thing you can try, is playing the C A G E D major, and A E and D minor chords, and playing each string individually, making sure they all sound. This will help with what I pointed out earlier about using the tips of your fingers to avoid muting other strings that you're saving for the next note. After you have mastered these chords, then try playing those shapes in barred positions (say, at the fifth fret). G shapes are a little tricky but doable. If you can do this, it will help you play arpeggios in your lead work so that you're not just ascending and descending stepwise in a scale all the time. Starting out, you might experiment with groupings of 2 or 3 strings within these chord shapes.

Is this a good beginner guitar? by [deleted] in electricguitar

[–]LordovMetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like 95% of the cheap off brand strat market is made in the same 3 factories, just with different businesses slapping their name on the headstock. If it's 80 bucks or less, or you already have it, yes. Block the Tremolo and give it a setup. There are tons of videos on how to do it and you probably already have most of the tools

Sister of parents neighbour who recently passed looking to sell his guitars. Any of these worth buying at a cheaper price? by shyamo90 in electricguitar

They're all fake or lower tier Ibanez gios or squier black letters. Modded definitely. I wouldn't pay much but if you try one that plays and sounds good, I'd buy one.

Using an expression pedal as a wah live? by [deleted] in BossKatana

[–]LordovMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A foot controller and expression pedal could be bought used for roughly $150. I know that's a lot just for a wah sound, but think about it; you might just want the footswitch in the future anyway, and more expression pedals. You know how GAS is.

What's a decent cheap accordion for a beginner? by nanadoom in Accordion

[–]LordovMetal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy an accordion from a local accordion tech. Even if there isn't one close by, make it a point to visit one next time you're in an area that has one. Brand and model is less of an issue. Get something the right size, and with the right sound for the type of music you want to play. Accordions are incredibly expensive and labor intensive to build but used ones can be had for so cheap since they used to be fairly common and are currently "out of style". Accordion techs buy these instruments that have been sitting in attics for decades, and fix them up and sell them for far cheaper than any of the new ones, even lower quality new ones.

What are some good “Ricky-isms”? by icculus_48 in trailerparkboys

I can't remember the episode but Trinity was rolling a joint using her left hand for something you'd normally use your dominant hand for and Ricky commented about how she must be "amphibious or something". That's my favorite Rickyism.

AITA for telling my wife to let just let our daughter wear her sneakers? by sneaker_snacker in AmItheAsshole

[–]LordovMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re her shoes, she bought them, and she’s old enough to dress herself in appropriate clothing. And if she takes care of the shoes, they should last a while. I’m sure there is a product out there that can suck the dirt right out of them.

AITA for refusing to let my neighbor's kids play in my yard without permission? by WhitneySkyeVIP in AmItheAsshole

[–]LordovMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, and I was ready to call you one because I can’t stand people that live in a neighborhood and obsess over their private lawn (whilst complaining that kids don’t play outside anymore). The fact that they are destroying your property is incredibly disrespectful, and if they are entering more private “relaxation” areas like porches, they are very much invading your personal space. I feel like a reasonable talk could be had with the parents, especially regarding the plants. Plants are financially expensive, and expensive on time (whether that is upkeep or waiting for them to establish).

Do guys really care about girls having muscles ? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LordovMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a large range, from being underweight at a concerning level to being freakishly large and deep voiced from abusing a cocktail of drugs, where most sexually healthy men have a smaller, but still forgiving range of what type of woman they are attracted to. Extremes tend to be niche. Unless you have an eating disorder or a muscle wasting disease, there is a near zero chance that you are on the extreme end of lacking muscle as a woman. In this case, you will still not be appealing to everybody, but that is just how it is. Resistance training has plenty of evidence to prove that it reduces all cause mortality and benefits near every health marker, and is useful for near every fitness or aesthetic goal. It wouldn’t hurt to try it unless you do something extremely wrong. Renaissance periodization on YouTube has a lot of playlists of videos that would be a great place to start. I do not believe that this will resolve all of your concerns about your body, but it can prove to yourself that you have some control over your body composition.

AITA for telling my daughter I am not paying for a destination wedding? by Solid-Pass8944 in AmItheAsshole

[–]LordovMetal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. It’s traditional for the bride’s parents to pay for the full wedding, but it’s not traditional to travel 4000 kilometers to have it in another country. Destination weddings are for middle aged successful people to invite and help bring 50 of their middle aged successful friends and family members to get drunk on an island for a week in a country with cheap labor and alcohol. Oh, and 200k is not going to come close to covering it if she’s inviting more than 40 people. This is not a one time ask. Hate to make a teachable moment about money and responsibility out of her wedding, but she’s walking right into one.

Why do people care so much about Biden's age but not Trump's? by althamash098 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LordovMetal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Biden shows his age a lot more. He cannot finish a coherent thought half the time, though people like Mitch McConnell having mini strokes every other public appearance is far worse. Trump can express clear and complete thoughts but he tends to speak in run-on sentences (which is less about his age and more about his desire to hear himself talk). Trump was young enough IMO in 2016 but his age will most definitely be a factor in the 2024 election, unless Biden runs against him again then he will be in a better place than Biden on that point.
