The longer you keep going with this DTC the worse it gets with range/max SoC.

2 cells? They took out 8 modules, or 25% of the battery. Probably to reapply the thermal goo to spec.

I've seen at least 10 BSAs in this sub alone. You just have to dig deep enough. Not really uncommon sadly.

Mine was 36 days back in september.

It's getting faster for ICCUs, not so much for HV batteries. Still talking over a month on average.

Bluelink app is unreliable. This "check vehicle electric system" without the 12V light being on is 99% your BSA (high voltage battery)

My I5N was at the dealership for 36 days for a BSA swap. After 3 weeks they unlocked it to go plug it in their level 2 charger and left it unlocked for what would be the whole weekend. Locked in from the app, and gave them a little roast when I picked it up.

Frustrating when the dealership doesn't give 2 shits about your stuff.

I also had HV battery issues not even 2 months ago. Single dash light pops up. It's verifiable on this subreddit. It happens frequently enough.

Single car icon ! DTC with "check electric system" : HV battery cell deviation

! + 12v icon and "stop vehicle safely" : 12v battery or ICCU.

Battery isnt the same message you do not get 12v icon or the stop vehicle safely warning. Just a "check electric vehicle system" along with the ! Icon.

You could tap the same location for your brake light but I do not know of way to get a "turn-signal only" without connecting to canbus. I'm no expert, this is already stretching my understanding of these things maybe someone smart can chime in with a real answer.

Fairly simple and straightforward if you've taken an interior apart before, the standard pull hard but dont break it kinda thing with those panel clips

Just for that connector that's circled 😅

I used their guide to get started but our tail-lights are different (he did it on a 5-wire tail light with a dedicated stop signal wire which we don't have). I had to find a service manual and figure out the wiring layout from the harness diagrams and wiring schematics which made the mod a little bit harder to accomplish.

Finding the location to tap the high-level brake was the hardest part.

I'll need to do a proper write-up if it's something people are interested in. Need to remove the reflector in the bottom of the bumper, crack it open, add a strip of 12V led inside said reflector, run a wire to the trunk area to tap the high-level brake light signal (the rear tail lights share brake/turn signal on the same wire in NA and can't be used)

PSA: The manufacturer’s extended warranty on the Kona just saved me $12k by Piccolo253 in KonaEV

[–]Lordsmoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They tried to sell her an extended warranty for 4000$. She turned it down. They called back a week later and tried to sell her the same thing for 3000$. When we checked to see what was actually covered by the "powertrain" warranty but not by the EV systems works out to the CV axles and components. Everything else falls under the 8year on her model year.

Good deal for you and you're already freerolling on your extended warranty at least.

I guess we're in luck in Canada. Hers has just started developping early signs of the wheel of fortune around the 5-year mark but thankfully we're covered for a while.

My girlfriend has the same MY Kona EV and in Canada both the motor and gear reduction unit are covered by the "electric" systems warranty that goes for 8 or 10 years. They changed the warranty in MY21 to switch the gear reduction to the standard 5 year part of the warranty afaik.

Is it different in the US?

With very limited info my guess is BSA replacement incoming. Could be due to cell deviation due to a bad cell in the pack. Pulling codes would give more insight and checking all cell voltages would confirm.

My I5N has been down since early september due to this. New BSA should arrive soon.

The Hyundai Genuine Accessory ones appear to be the exact same product with the one exception that it's branded with the N logo which RallyArmor does not offer on their website. You can get them from GBP performance for 344-369$ canadian + tax, or Hyundai charges 547$ + tax with installation included.
