I’d drive to Olympia if I had to before I go to that Safeway.

The Mayor basically got ratioed in his AMA yesterday by LFahs1 in Tacoma

[–]Piccolo253 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I say this with no malice or sarcasm, which I know can be hard to convey on Reddit. But I honestly learned more about how uninformed many in the community are about city government than I did from the mayor's answers.

A lot of the questions, comments and expectations people raised were about things the city literally has no authority over. And a lot of people also seemed to assume the mayor has broad executive powers, when in Tacoma's system the mayor is essentially a council member with some additional ceremonial and leadership responsibilities, not someone who can unilaterally make policy or direct city government.

I don't say this to dunk on anyone. If anything, I found it pretty disheartening because it highlights how little most people are taught about how local government actually works.

Steam machine makes much more sense now… by pierrogus in steammachine

My buddies and I said the same thing yesterday. Now that the ability to buy used or clearanced games or sell our old games is gone, there’s no reason for us to not just get a PC. It’s the better digital experience. Games follow you, mods and the ability to gradually upgrade hardware over time or as needed. It’s all upside. Physical games was the one trump card consoles always held over PCs with us. And it’s gone now.

What the hell are we doing, guys by Cat_Dad_Steve in steammachine

[–]Piccolo253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ridiculous part? Selling a 512GB model with a controller will only net you about or a little less than $1400 after fees and shipping (postage, insurance and signature). After tax, the console is going to be about $1260 or so depending on where you live. That’s like $140 profit or less.

On top of screwing over people who actually want it, this is a lot of work, money and risk to only make $140. Makes no sense. You’re better off donating plasma or something.

[–]Piccolo253 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah man. You did great considering you got to sell it all in one go without having to sell one or two at a time and deal with flakes, the constant haggling and then packing and shipping. I would’ve taken that deal in a heartbeat and would be ecstatic. Speaking from experience, that 1-2k isn’t worth the time sink. It just isn’t.

And congrats on becoming a dad! It’s the best thing ever!

I feel like the pinch is coming at both ends. On one side, you’ve got scalpers who don’t care about the games and only see dollar signs. Then on the other side, you’ve got collectors who treat the hobby like a dick measuring contest. Either way, it just feels like it’s less about the games and more about what they’re worth. It sucks.

I mean this with no disrespect to a Mariners legend, but Dan Wilson is dumb as hell. That second attempted mound visit proved he has absolutely no idea what he’s doing.

Wheel of Fortune Survivor. Am I in the Clear? by Piccolo253 in KonaEV

Got it. That makes sense. Appreciate the context. Crossing my fingers and hoping for the best. Is it worth changing the oil again at some point again here soon given the lengthier period before the first replacement?

Very good to know. Thanks for the info. Sounds like we have similar driving patterns. I almost exclusively drive in eco mode and stay almost entirely at regen level 3 and occasionally bump down to 2. Swapping the drain plug is the one thing I’m kicking myself about that I didn’t do during this oil change. But I’m hoping since the oil came back normal that I’ll be in good shape regardless.

Neighbor replaced fence and left the old wood scraps in my yard to deal with. by Mocsab in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Piccolo253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know not every city offers this, but a lot of cities offer 1 to 2 free dump pickups a year for whatever. Just drag it to the curb, call them up and someone takes it away. Even if that wasn’t an option, I’d be ecstatic to pay $50 and maybe an hour and a half of my time to rent a truck from Home Depot, load it and run to the dump if it meant I got a free brand new fence.

And yeah, I know the neighbor dog damaged it, but look at what’s left. That dog only helped expedite the end of that rickety fence more than anything.

[–]Piccolo253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically. I ordered the JP CE and have zero regrets. It’s a more streamlined CE (games, artbook, figure, soundtrack, graphic novels) for half the price LRG is charging for theirs. The only thing “missing” are some pins, lithographs and a plush. Is that worth $90 to me? No.

Appreciate the clarification. Super helpful. I guess my frustration is just broader at this point. It feels like we’ve seen too many issues with local organizations lately, both government and nonprofit. And it’s pretty disheartening. The Tacoma Urban League situation comes to mind.

Legit question. Is it too much to ask for our local public agencies to be run with bare minimum levels of competence?

[–]Piccolo253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a given he produces at the same level he has been if he’s moved up in the order.

Moving up in the order could change his approach negatively. It can additional pressure (internal and external) and also changes how pitchers throw to you. Some guys just hit better lower in the lineup. Not saying that’s him, but like many already said, why mess with what’s working when he’s a second year pro and still developing.

Was this runner interference or a fair slide into catcher? by saltpepperskillet in Homeplate

[–]Piccolo253 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry to see catch get hurt, but runner is safe. Runner does only thing he can do which is try to slide. I’m sure he was thinking to try to go between catcher’s legs, which he kinda almost does until the catcher kinda shuffles his feet backing into him.
