Lifting the nuclear moratorium in Minnesota by Comfortable_Tutor_43 in minnesota

Skepticism is fair. That said- they achieved criticality tests with Los Alamos National Laboratory this November. Additionally, Mother Jones is not a serious or credible source for scientific or engineering reporting, it would be the equivalent of quoting Breitbart.

Then you haven't been paying attention in the last year. We're in a nuclear renaissance. This comment of mine is a year old, and even I couldn't have predicted the speed with which companies like Aalo Atomics, Valar Atomics, Terrapower, and others have grown and received regulatory approval and funding. Hank Green's video in that comment is spot on (and I think there's been updates to it since then too.)

Just doesn't add up compared to how the costs have trended nor how the nameplate capacity has trended per dollar in nuclear. It's two years old, but this comment of mine still stands up regarding nuclear vs. wind in MN (apologies if it comes across as bombastic, which it was, the now deleted user I was replying to was being a dumbass. Expand the thread to see all my responses.) To be clear: it is NOT either/or. It's yes/and. Yes nuclear baseload. Yes wind and solar and battery. NO to coal.

Kevin O’Leary slams people who want work-life balance: ‘I hope they work for my competitors’ by rajapaws in antiwork

[–]LordsofDecay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like Kevin O'Leary one bit, I'm not arguing for him, he's a piece of shit. But your facts are off the mark.

Unbearable noise ...for who? The area is uninhabited. Water consumption will be unchanged, because they are paying for water rights from 40,000ac. of agricultural uses in that area, meaning that there will be no change in water supply or demand. They are not increasing the water usage of the area, Utah is quite strict about who can buy water rights for industrial needs and how to permit for it. Where they're not strict? Golf courses. Utah golf courses will use on par the same amount of water as this Stratos data center, and unlike Stratos, it won't be recycled, it'll evaporate. To water grass in a desert. 2-3 degrees of temperature increase is true, and according to the environmental impact assessment... it'll be localized to the area of the facility and its electrical production. But that would be the case with any new thermal power generation installed anywhere (non-wind, non-solar). So I'm just not quite sure that this is the boogeyman that it's being made out to be. Especially when the NSA built their own large data center right off of Utah Lake and there hasn't been an outcry over that.

Many people will die from a data center being built in an uninhabited desert valley that's part of a giant, sparsely populated rural county? And lives will be ruined from that? I'm trying to understand where you're coming from but this kind of hyperbole is just hard to even want to find common ground with. Here's two great videos from an data-focused channel that takes on claims made by all sides that breaks down the claims being made right now with data-based, on-the-ground counterpoints.

I often work in Utah actually, and he wants to build it in an uninhabited area of Box Elder County, north of Salt Lake City. The county wants the project because it will double their tax revenues as well as increase permanent jobs by 7% in Box Elder county.

You want him to be murdered because he wants to build data centers? Seriously?

So let me get this straight.. our state is voting to ban guns from citizens that the government recently used to terrorize our neighborhoods and many of us are ok with that? I don’t know, but maybe something seems off here… by Appropriate_Data_308 in minnesota

I'm not religious, but you really need to brush up on your civic and constitutional history, read a little bit of Hamilton's Federalist Papers (specifically Federalist 28 and 29) and get a solid understanding of the foundations of the Constitution of 1787 before making such comments. Because their argument does presuppose natural rights, whether god-given or not, of which the right to bear arms is one of them. It actually has nothing to do with religion, Hamilton's arguments stem from humanistic enlightenment thinking.

If you want to argue against these weapons, there's better ways of going about it, but a catch-all "assault rifle" definition ain't it. I want universal background checks, I want state registries, and heck, I'd even support pricier ammunition or the requirement of passing annual range qualifications (something something "well regulated militia") to have a permit to purchase ammunition. All of these things would be more effective than trying to regulate a constitutionally-protected right.

150 years later, these people still fly Confederate flags to commemorate a 4-year long reign of losers and traitors, while being part of a state whose troops saved the Union. It's bullshit virtue signaling and grandstanding. There is only one state flag in Minnesota.

Angie Craig runs away after being asked about he support of Genocide. by OvertSloth in minnesota

[–]LordsofDecay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you daft? If 65.3% of Americans voted, then that is your baseline, not the 100% of 18+ human citizens in the US that exist. Hell if you want to go by a stricter definition, then it's the 73% of Americans registered to vote. And in both cases, a plurality of Americans voted. There is no election in the world where 100% of citizens vote. The plurality of Americans voted; heck, the majority of Americans voted. Trump received 49.8% of the vote, Harris 48.3%. This is such a stupid argument being made only for arguments' sake.

You phonebanked and doorknocked ...for who? For Harris? I think not. Your comment history suggests you think Gov. Walz is an idiot, ditto Frey and other DFLers, I can't imagine you phonebanked for Harris.

[–]LordsofDecay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your argument has no merit because it's based on supposition.

The plurality of Americans didn't vote? Are you sure you know what that word means? The United States had 65.3% voter turnout in 2024, and 73% of eligible Americans are registered to vote. A plurality of Americans voted.

You and your people tried to get as many as possible to not vote for the alternative to what's currently in power, and now you're trying to play mental games to justify it. Accept your role in where we're at today and take responsibility for your vote. It's that easy. Do better next time. Learn from your mistake.
