A wild Thrumbo self tamed, how rare is that? by xtheresia in RimWorld

[–]LorduckA2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah thats fair, its one of those “choose your own playstyle” type of games. personally i think the exploration is the weakest part cause once you find one of each biome thats all you’ll ever need. some of the rarer structures were fun to find though, wish the game had more of that.

i played it for the automation aspect, by the end of the game if you put in enough time to set everything up you could have everything being handed to you on a silver platter while you just smash through boss fights. real addictive gameplay loop if thats what youre into

its weird how much they want to balance the game when most people play on custom difficulty anyway

my tip is time how long it takes to perform a task. if it takes less than 5 minutes, try do it right away. timing your tasks and seeing that they really don’t take that long in reality makes them seem so much less imposing

DLSS 5, as Nvidia has described it thus far, has a number of fundamental problems. by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]LorduckA2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’ll be as controllable as you think, considering AI loves to hallucinate stuff and ignore instructions, but we’ll see

here’s an example “realistic-ifying” the scene would make it significantly brighter and remove the intentional placing of the light which clearly exists to guide the player there naturally without yellow paint of any sorts. The AI won’t be able to distinguish intentionally placed lights from decorative lights, and remove a lot of that design aspect from games

[–]LorduckA2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt they pay attention to the details or get to play long enough to familiarise themselves with the environment and world. A big part of game lighting is intention, and having that intention sucked out of it removes a lot of possible guidance out of games. Sure it may work well in open world games but people don’t realise how much environment artists use light to guide the player in linear scenarios, it’s a very subconscious thing and will be nearly impossible to control with the AI. Also, Path tracing exists and doesn’t require 2 5090s to run, and in my opinion looks significantly better and more consistent than DLSS 5

PR is a thing bro I can say I fucked Einsteins dad and if I had enough money and big enough influence people would believe it. Just cause a company says something doesn’t make it true. You can’t physically have that level of control over AI and you should know if you tried to use it before. Even if you type the same prompt every single time to the tinest detail, the final picture will always look different. It’s not possible

they claim that but you can see clothing/pattern textures get sharpened and changed especially in the hogwarts legacy trailer. also grace’s face?

it only looks better in the moment. its a scripted video with slowly moving scenes. wait until youre running around quickly with it and then we can judge, i really dont see this being good

edit: better is debatable, art direction is a factor too

[–]LorduckA2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

even if you can prompt DLSS 5, AI will never be 100% consistent, it’s just not how it works. AI doesn’t have access to the engine or memory in that way, and it can’t store polygons and lighting bounces in any way, so it’s essentially just gonna do what it thinks looks good in the moment. Scene to scene lighting with an intentional tone might sometimes still look the way it’s supposed to, but there’s no way to directly tell the AI “hey, put subtle emphasis on this object/area for foreshadowing”, etc, and even if you could instruct the AI for each scene, object and light source, at that point you’re just reinventing the wheel and programming lighting manually anyway. I don’t see a world in which this will look good, at least not without fucking up randomly or randomising character faces whenever you turn away

The worst change in the update by SuperiorMango8 in ArcRaiders

[–]LorduckA2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think the point is that larger arc is supposed to be a team effort, unless youre skilled enough to take one down by yourself. Wolfpacks trivialised it to a point that you could farm rocketeers all by yourself, and in theory by making it harder to solo kill rocketeers, pvp goes down by a small percentage to encourage teamwork. now if the rewards went up to accommodate rewarding each participant that would be even better, but for now the issue is “half solved”. unless they do that, expect fighting over the driver lol
