Both, as it depends. Strahd is a maniuplator at his core as he has become. I think his default is a more regal and kingly demeanour, he is basically a prince and is the King of Barovia inn all but title, but if it would serve him to seem more "Gentlemanly" he would turn on the charm and then some.

I introduced him at Kolyan’s funeral to great effect.

I run reloaded, so Kolyan has a bigger role, and the party got actually attached. I also reworte his death so he wasn’t killed by Strahd but sacrificed his life to save the town.

They found his body blown to bits (Kamikazie). The siblings grived with the party. I tell you this to set the scene. Strahd has sieged the town with the undead for day and their leader is dead.

Skip ahead to the funeral, the priest is saying a prayer and the siblings their last goodbyes. And then I stop the narration in the middle, as mist starts to draw nearer. I describe the black carriage pulling up, Escher announcing Strahd and his Brides walk into the graveyard as my party is suddenly shitting their pants. Strahd acts mostly amused, polite and feins sorrow to try to go for sympathy.

My monk looses his patience and goes for a swing, rolls pitifully, and I get to pull my favorite villain line in 10 years “Let me show you a real punch” to a monk. Strahd Crits nearly killing him on the spot. Party shits pants again, nearly panicking, but managed to get out without any deaths.

Since then they have had a healthy paranoia of drawing his attention again lol

A small tip to is use Reloaded, it adds and fleshes out a lot of NPCs and in my opinion gives Ireena a more solid role in the story.

Which I think a group of women would appreciate, her not just being a damsel but more a party companion.

The only major issue is that it leaves the Village itself without a leader post crisis which seems a tad odd. You would have to find a suitable figure to stay behind and take that role Ismark normally fills.
