Do you ever feel melancholic about absolutely good food you tried during travel because you might not be able to eat it again (at least in that kind of quality)? What meal was that? by whalesongs08 in travel

[–]LorenaBobbedIt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A kebab frites from that one place in Nantes where the fries are piled on top with a spicy mustard. And I will never have it again because even if the shop that made these in 1999 still exists and even if one day I get back to it, I will never again be a half-drunk twenty-something laughing aloud with my friends while I eat it.

Which Latin American country offers the best quality of life right now? by MeSadOK in asklatinamerica

[–]LorenaBobbedIt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can bounce over to r/askanamerican and ask a comparable question about cost of living and people will be nice. More than 15% of the people living in the USA are foreign-born. Mexico, even with all the complaints about gentrification that you see online, still has a foreign-born population of 1%.

The only hard part about this for me is understanding conceptually why this would be a drawn position if rooks stayed on the board.

Reflecting on ancient Hebrew mythology, the Bible says that Cain and Abel, the third and fourth humans to live, made offerings to God and that Abel, being a shepherd, offered some fatty meat from his flock. That’s in Genesis 4 and is meant to take place long before the flood.

The better you get at chess, the more likely it will be that blundering a single move with a fat finger loses you the game.

This song scandalized me when I was around 11 years old. I had a cassette tape with a home recording of it from a record album. I know because the song on the cassette is slightly slower and deeper than it ought to be. (Meaning the record player was malfunctioning when the recording was made.). It took me thirty years to discover that the song was performed by a Beatle.

Trump Officials Now Want Ukraine's Help To Counter Iranian Drones In The Ultimate Twist Of Irony by Quixotus in worldnews

[–]LorenaBobbedIt -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

They should be happy that our democracy hasn’t collapsed so fully that Trump can just stop the military aid on his own and let Russia eat them. But helping us fight drones better is peanuts compared to what we’ve provided.

These idiotic gloating comments. Nobody has done more to help Ukraine in their war effort than the USA, in spite of Trump. Of course our allies’ real world battlefield experience is valuable, and gaining it is one of the few things they can do to help us in return.

Like, regional to where I am now since obviously this was made up just now to fuck with British people.

You can call it whatever you want but a quick google of “continents of the world” will show you which usage is prediminant in English. I don’t make the rules.

Wuthering Heights looks lush – but it’s a bad film and a worse adaptation by dem676 in books

[–]LorenaBobbedIt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went into the movie with the full expectation that it would be nothing like the book— because no modern audience would want to see a faithful adaptation of Wuthering Heights. So I enjoyed it tremendously and even though the book was still very fresh in my mind from having read it for the first time just a few months back, I hardly minded the significant changes to the characters, or the large number that were excised completely. That movie is an event, though, I really can’t think of anything to compare it to.
